Born and raised in Japan, with minimum English speaking skills at the time, Dr. Kaori chose to follow her dreams of becoming a Veterinarian by coming to Australia to study Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland, from which she successfully graduated in 2007. Having been exposed to Eastern medicine from a young age, Kaori chose to study Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine in 2009 and in

2011 from the world-class practitioner Dr. Huisheng Xie in the USA. She is now a certified Veterinary Herbal Medicine Practitioner, one of only a handful practicing in Australia. Kaori is also a skilled acupuncturist who loves what she does and hopes to offer these alternative therapies to many more of our furred or feathered family members. Look who’s back—our handsome boy, Ned! 😍 We first started seeing Ned in May 2024. Ned was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism due to a suspected thyroid carcinoma in late 2022, and he was showing all the classic signs: drinking heaps, eating like a hyperthyroid champ, and even a bit of coughing.

Fast forward to today, and Ned is looking so good! His blood tests? All NORMAL! 🙌

Since arriving on the Sunshine Coast, poor Ned had been off his food—stress from the change in environment, perhaps? But not to worry, Dr. KK worked her magic with a calming 20-minute acupuncture session. Ned left feeling so relaxed he even accepted some treats from Dr. KK (okay, maybe we bribed him for a cute photo or two 😆).

The best part? His mum let us know that after two days of no appetite, Ned happily enjoyed his dinner last night! 🐾💖

Way to go, Ned! Here’s to more good meals and happy, healthy days ahead!

Meet Frank, our superstar kitty who’s been on a healing journey! 🐾

Frank came to us with some unusual symptoms:

👉 Black spots on his nose that appeared and disappeared mysteriously.
👉 A preference for cool places—very un-catlike for a snuggly guy like him.
👉 Recent health struggles, including a UTI and a history of kidney stones.

His family was worried and just wanted to see him back to his usual, happy self. Enter Dr. KK and our holistic approach! 🌿

After just two acupuncture treatments, Frank’s nose spots disappeared, and today—at treatment three—we’re celebrating a clear and happy nose! 😻

Balancing Frank’s body has helped him feel better and brighter. We’ll continue supporting him on this journey, but for now, let’s admire that spot-free snoot!

At KK Holistic Vet, Dr. KK is passionate about teaching children how to approach and interact with dogs safely and respectfully. Dogs, like people, have moods, and even the friendliest dog can have an off day. Understanding how to behave around them helps prevent accidents and builds positive, trusting relationships. Here are the 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 every child should know when meeting a dog:

❤ 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Always ask the dog’s owner if it’s okay to pet their dog. Not all dogs are comfortable around new people, especially children.

❤ 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐲: Move slowly and let the dog come to you. Avoid running toward the dog or reaching over its head, which might scare them.

We're so happy to welcome Na**lm, the sweet girl from Mackay, who came all the way to see us on the Sunny Coast. Despite the long journey, she greeted us with gentle smiles. 😊

Na**lm is bravely battling a tumor in her neck, though you’d never know it—she's a true lionheart, always hiding the signs like the tough girl she is.

Her dedicated mum is doing everything possible to keep that smile and wagging tail going, and Na**lm has been taking her herbs like a champ.

𝐇𝐢 𝐊𝐊, I had to say goodbye to my beautiful Sam. Our Story

KK's Holistic Veterinary Service is run by Dr. Kaori Kanemitsu BVSc, CVCH, CVA. She specializes in herbal medicine and acupuncture and has a great passion toward Eastern medicine, food therapy and a holistic approach. She is available for consultation at Doonan Clinic. Because some of our fluffy friends get stressed coming into a clinic situation, Dr. Kaori is happy to make house calls. Skype consultation can be organised nationally/ internationally.
