We’re currently seeking as much advice as we can to help Luna with her mental health so that she has the best life possible.

We also desperately need to build Luna’s and Ziggy’s house so they can move into their big Piggy Paradise.

We really think this will help Luna. She will have a huge amount more space (their Paradise is over 1.5 acres) and they will not be located in such a busy part of the Sanctuary.

The fencing for Piggy Paradise is now largely finished.🎉

But Luna and Zig now need a secure, well-ventilated, insulated house so they are cool in summer and warm in winter. It’s not going to be cheap! 🙈

Last week was so chaotic due to the extreme weather and flooding that we didn’t get a chance to create this post…

We’re excited to share that Clove was finally healed enough to be out of medical quarantine, so we slowly introduced him to Moon. 🥹

Clove wanted in head straight in with the big kids 🐮, and Mama Cappuccino 🐐is being a little possessive about the house paddock and Moon (they are rescue family).

And because Moon has only ever lived with goats, he’s a little bit awkward and unsure about how to ‘cow’. But also super excited!

But Clove is being very patient with him and it’s so heartwarming to watch their friendship starting to blossom. 🥹

Both of these babies should still be with their mothers. 💔

But we hope they can heal each other’s broken hearts.

Little Jasper is in his late 30s and when he first came into our care 4.5 years ago we couldn’t get anywhere near him.

He would swing his bum at us and kick out with both of his hind legs!

But this was because he was scared, hungry, and in chronic pain. 💔

Jasper’s eyes were in shocking condition. He was suffering from very painful infections and ulcers in and around BOTH of his eyes … and no one had ever treated him. 💔

No wonder he didn’t like humans!

These days, old man Jasper is quite a snuggly boy. But his untreated eye condition left him with ongoing issues that periodically require medical treatment.

So last week, Jasper had his tear ducts flushed out by our very patient vet (it’s a tricky procedure). He requires sedation for this procedure but he feels a lot better afterwards.

Little Clove has come through his castration procedure as best as can be expected.

Here he is after the procedure this morning having one of his day sleeps .

He had maximum pain relief onboard (and will continue to be on pain meds for at least 5 days), as well as a local anesthetic.

And he was happily eating and drinking straight after the procedure, before setting down for his nap.

We made sure his favourite classical playlist was gently playing throughout to help keep him as relaxed and as regulated as possible.

Just like us humans, music has a deeply emotional effect on cows.

Singing and humming to them, and playing soothing music helps them to feel calm and safe.

Please send love and healing in the comments below to little Clove… tomorrow morning he is being castrated.

This is not something that we enjoy having to do. At all!

However, it’s one of the core principles of ethical rescuing and running a sanctuary: maintaining a strict no-breeding policy.

Devastatingly, there is an overwhelming number of farmed animals in desperate situations. If we breed more of these precious beings into existence, we would have less room and fewer resources (like grazeable land, funds, and carers) to rescue and care for those already in need.

Our amazing vet, Dr. Bec, visited last night to do a health check for little Clove ahead of his procedure tomorrow morning.

We are ensuring that it will be as pain-free as possible with the shortest recovery time. He will have a local anesthetic and pain relief during the procedure and for as long as he needs it during his recovery.

Not a fun day for this tiny boy, or for us, but very necessary. And he’ll have plenty of treats and love.

▶️ We are urgently looking for someone with rural property skills to help build fences and complete carpentry-based jobs such as animal shelters.

▶️ We also need to get Mama Cappuccino’s 🐐 nighttime coat fixed and need someone with an industrial sewing machine to do a quick repair job.

This is PAID WORK, but being a registered animal charity we’d also love to hear from anyone who may be willing to offer a discount or donate some or all of their time. (There is also the possibility of accommodation for the right person while you’re working.)

We are located on 130 beautiful acres in Crabbes Creek (not far north of Byron Bay and 35 minutes south of the Queensland border) and have 80 rescue animals in care.

Little Moon, who we rescued about 6 weeks ago, is in desperate need of a mini moo herd mate.

We had hoped that old lady Edina could be his babysitter, but we tried for a week and unfortunately she just did not want to be around his rambunctious toddler moo-person energy. 😬

And she desperately wanted to go back to the comfort of the herd, and her seeing eye cows, Twinkle Toes and his mama, Myrtle.

So we started searching for a companion for Moon… someone who needed our help before it was too late for them.

And so we managed to find this sweet, tiny boy who desperately needed a safe, loving home and a soft place to land.

We are so grateful we found you, Clove. But we’re so, so sorry you don’t have your mama with you. 😞

Cappuccino was only an hour or two away from death when we rescued her along with her sick babies, Piccolo & Maple Latte.

We had three vets as part of her acute care team and they all thought she wouldn’t make it. But she did!

She’s still got a long journey back to full health but she’s doing so incredibly well now.

🦄Being a one-eyed pony means Angel is very timid and is still very nervous around people she doesn’t know well.

But because of her illness, she needs to have her hooves trimmed quite regularly.

This brave little unicorn has Cushings Disease which we have been managing with her diet and with medication for over a year now.

Our gentle farrier is absolutely amazing and beyond patient, but Angel just did not want anyone to touch her today.

These situations are very tricky.

Like everything in sanctuary life, it’s about trying to find a balance… a balance between respecting a resident’s right to bodily autonomy and seeking their consent, while also providing them with the care that they need at the same time.

We have to make these decisions on an almost daily basis…and it’s tough!

It’s tough not to be too hard on yourself and to worry that you’re not doing the best thing.

But we have to constantly remind ourselves that it’s impossible to be perfect.

And if we listen to the individuals in our care closely enough, we almost always manage to strike the right balance. 💗

Cappuccino is getting stronger every day. 🎉

She’s still on her vitamin & iron injections and we’re also treating a couple of very nasty pressure sores that occurred due to being down for so long.

And we’re still bottle feeding her babies, Piccolo and Maple Latte. We’ve also now started them on little kid food (they also love hay). 😍

Mama Cappuccino still prefers to stay in the big barn…it’s her safe place.

It’s where she was quite literally brought back to life. A place where she is given plenty of food, warmth, love and kindness. A place where she can rest peacefully in comfort. A place where her babies have been fed and cared for when she couldn’t care for them herself.

But in between downpours (we’ve had soooooooooo much rain) we’ve been encouraging her to explore the house paddock with the Babychinos.

This is helping to build Cappuccino’s confidence and her dreadfully wasted muscles (she came into our care with a BODY SCORE OF ONE… she was just a skeleton 💔… and then she spent three weeks unable to stand).

Each day she’s ventured a little further into the house paddock away from the big barn.

And yesterday she shared lunch with her rescue family member, Little Moon.🐮

We are so beyond grateful that she’s pulled through against all the odds! What an amazing mama she is! 🥹💗

And so the healing journey continues…

Beautiful Sunny and his rescue brother, Peppi, were saved from a dairy when they were tiny babies...just before they were due to be k!ll@d.

‘Bobby calves’ are seen as a ‘waste product’ by dairies because they drink the milk that farmers take to sell for human consumption.

We hope our precious gentle boy heals soon. Please send him love. 🙏
