Reggie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I've got lots on at the minute so apologies to those waiting on replies back from me.

There is lots of horses coming in and going out at the moment so the days have been long. As most of you know I'm a solo operator these days so unfortunately the tasks that I used to be able to handball off are still mine to tackle by the time I've worked through the 9 horses I'm training 👩‍💻📧 💩🧹 🧼🪣

Add in waiting for owners/or waiting for trucks to arrive, the days blow out very easily.
Back to normal soon as things settle into routine again 🐴

Back to it after a fantastic weekend away competing. Ted makes life easy with his perfect attitude 💓

In search for a client in Melbourne region -

Looking for a dead quiet pony to be a companion for a small stock horse gelding.

Doesn't mind if said pony is older and retired but must be quiet as her current horse is easily led astray when he hangs out with gangsters 🤪

Please no laminitic or PPID ponies.

Pony will want for nothing and owner is surrounded by excellent guidance from experienced horse people.

Please post below if you have something suitable 🤞❤️

Thankyou!

Training horses to a timeline

Something that puts many people off, or shocks them entirely, is when I get asked the age old question, "how long will my horse take to break in?"

🤷‍♀️ You tell me? Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with the gift of being able to talk to horses.

This is where my reply of "Budget for 10 weeks, and hope for change" comes in. This is also where most people hang up on me or try to argue 😅

Truth be told most of em take somewhere, starting from scratch, between 6 to 8 weeks. *most* of them.

I've had one that took 7 weeks to cope with me on the mounting block next to her.

I've also had one come and go in 3 weeks and was toddling kids around at pony club straight after leaving.
See why I can't give you a timeline?

But if you budget for 10, you allow your horse a buffer should they need it. Allow them more time to settle in, allow time for professionals and practitioners to pay a visit to your horse (dentist, farrier etc). Allow them more days of rest should they need it. Allow them to process at their own pace.
Catching my drift?

It's not about you and how quickly you want your horse done. I can assure you if you try to push a timeline on me, you'll get pushed right out the door with your horse in tow.

Do I take the p**s and waste time? ❌️ NO
But do I allow horses with individual personalities to take the time they require to process things in a kind and productive manner? ✅️ YES

"But i've saddled him before and long reined him and done most of the work!!"
Okay great, I'm going to still have to go through every single step of the way and ensure its up to the standard that I need for myself to ensure safety.

"But he's really quiet!!"
Okay, he's never been here before though so that creates a mute point.

"But I am only willing to commit to 4 weeks!"
Super, let's book for 4 weeks and see what we can get done in that time.

"My last horse got broken in, in 6 weeks!"
Okay so go back to that breaker if they've worked well for you in the past.

Many people have scoffed at me when they hear what I say about timelines. I get it! $4,500 is a lot of money to part with if your horse does need to stay for the full 10 weeks. But this is my way of doing and I'm happy to stick with it. At the end of the day I'm only trying to advocate for the health and happiness of your horse.

Truthfully I just don't mind if my way doesn't resonate with you. There are so many great trainers, you'll be likely to find one who does align with your values and your timeline.
