Ginger Ninja Rescue We are a cat rescue in Adelaide rehabilitating, fostering and rehoming stray and neglected cats Foster carers are always welcomed

We are a small scale rescue who rely on a network of foster homes to house our animals until they are adopted. We mainly rescue cats and kittens from high kill pounds, strays on the street or abandoned/dumped animals. Our cats are vet checked, Vaccinated, Microchipped, Desexed, worm and flea treated before being rehomed. By doing this we are preventing our cats from having uncontrolled litters whi

ch contribute to the thousands of cats and kittens that are put to sleep in pounds every year. We are mainly based in SA however we have rescue contacts in Victoria aswell. Cats and kittens are our specialty (especially our ginger friends!) however we occasionally have dogs, puppies, rabbits, rats and birds.

Nemo and Kovu came from our Virginia Colony. They had a rough start and were very scared to begin with but have done really well in foster care.

Nemo’s your typical goofy ginger baby who constantly makes us laugh. While Kovu is an active little boy who adore his toys often carrying them around with him.

They’ll both be hesitant/shy to begin with but once they warm up they are little love bugs with tons of energy for playtime.

Both kitties are becoming smoochy lap cats and heavily enjoy anything food related.

Hi my name is Harry Styles 👋

I have been having a rough time of it lately. My owner had to move into a nursing home and I couldn't go with him 😔 but the ladies at Ginger Ninja have taken me in whilst I find a new home.

I am a big boy with a loving heart, I am four years young and love to play with toys. I love peering out windows watching the world go by and I’m getting used to the hustle and bustle of a busy family home after living alone with just one human my whole life.

I have adapted well to living with a toddler and cats within my foster home. I have a lot of love to give and am ready for my new family ❤️

They are both super friendly and love to play. Butters has typical tortitude and a huge personality, Cake has a racing stripe on her belly and is the fastest kitty around, racing all over the place.

They can be adopted together or would love to a kitty friend or two to play with, they get along with everyone🥳

MISSY MOO UPDATE

A big thank you to everyone who showed their support and kindness on our early post about Missy. We have some positive news to update you on ❤️

Missy has definitely felt more comfortable this morning. She had a feeding tube inserted yesterday to help her get the right amount of nutrients in while she was weak, and in pain. She’s doing well taking in her food and having the tube in. We are also very very pleased that her temperature is now holding well. Dehydration can make a kitty very cold. And sadly she was very very cold yesterday during her examination. So we are very pleased with her update ❤️ she has now been on fluids for over 24 hours to combat her dehydration.

She has also had a little clean up so her fur is cleaner and more comfortable for her during her hospital stay.

We are now making plans to proceed with surgery to screw her hip back together. It’s a delicate surgery due to where the break is, but we hope this will help her heal faster. We didn’t think she would be where she is now, so soon after being picked up in such a dreadful state, but we are grateful for all the well wishes and support she has received for her recovery journey.

Thank you to everyone who donated, and to those who said a kind word when we needed it most. Missy thanks you all for your love ❤️

Yesterday was a tear filled day 😭 but there’s hope!

We got a call an urgent call from a vet clinic. They had a member of the public hand in a kitty that was registered to the rescue who was microchipped in 2020. They suspected she had been hit by a car and was now very dehydrated. Of course we sent a volunteer to collect her ASAP so she could have treatment and X-rays. But her story made our volunteers cry.

Once we got to the clinic, the staff told us the whole story of how she got to be with them. An unhoused man, living out of his car, had picked her up on Sunday during the heat wave. The man had watched her go in and out of a building site for weeks. The man had very challenging mental health issues. The staff spent 90 minutes talking to the man who was threatening them and being erratic, while trying to get the cat that he found off him so that she wouldn’t suffer. She had already been through a horrible 48 hours.

The staff told us he had been keeping her in a box in his car since Sunday. She was not able to move, she was covered in curdled milk and her own urine. She was suspected to be hit by a car. But it was her dehydration and lack of cooling in the car that was a great cause for concern. We were worried she would be in organ failure. She was given some pain relief by the vet clinic before heading to one of our vets.

She was taken to Virginia Vet where the vet nurses raced her out the back for X-rays while we briefed the vet on her troubling 48 hours. We didn’t know what to expect. On the drive to the clinic, she used her front legs to sit up. This made our volunteers cry because it meant that maybe she wasn’t hit by a car after all. It was a sign of hope in a horrible situation for this poor girl.

Her X-rays showed that she DID NOT HAVE A BROKEN SPINE. She had a break in her pelvis. Not a life ending break. One that would heal over many months of crate rest, or heal quickly with surgical intervention.

She was put on a drip and cleaned up. The poor girl was just covered in curdled milk from the man who thought he could help her. The man who kept her in his car in a box, with a lid on it thought the heat wave.

Once she was comfortable with serious pain relief on board, she had her bloods done. Her bloods came back remarkably normal! This was a shock. We were expecting her to be in organ failure after learning how she was kept over the weekend, in a hot car in a box with a lid on it!

After the much needed good news, we started making plans to proceed with surgery. To see what her options are. Given that it is a tricky operation we may have to refer her to another clinic to support her with her op. For now, we are grateful for the welcomed surprises. The X-rays and blood results that surprised us all are the Christmas miracle we so desperately needed for her.

As we are only human, this case was very upsetting for our volunteers. We are grateful for the compassion and care (and chocolate donuts) involved from all the vet clinic staff who helped this girl. From the staff at Pet Universe, to the staff at Virginia Vet, we appreciate you for your continued compassion to human and animals alike.

We are now waiting to hear how her night went. And will update you all on her progress as she has been through hell to get to comfort.

We are trying our best with the limited resources we have ❤️ we believe every cat deserves a chance. Our work is made possible by your kindness and donations.

Lady Knight (black female) and Lucky (silver female) are the only two left from the litter of 9 available for adoption.

They are both shy little angela who will steal your heart once they choose you as their human. They purr and cuddle into their carer, but are still shy with strangers.

Do you have the space in your heart for a shy little fluffy angel?
