I obviously spoke too soon. I thought George was doing great, that was until today. He had diarrhoea twice and vomited twice. Damn. And I thought he was doing well, until then.
I spoke with WAVES who said to put him onto Crocodile roll and then he started going crazy at his two front paws. I had a look at them and they were so red it was like tomato skin.
So I went to the vet about 300mtrs from me and they had crocodile rolls there. Got one. But he was driven nuts with his feet so they said to come back at 6pm. A lady vet I’ve met before had a look and took a test from both feet. He has a staph Infection in them and I had taken his meds with me of course.
She went through everything and said without his notes from WAVES (which I’ll get sent to her) she can’t be certain but by all I told her about his liver results and B12 results plus what has started to reoccur regarding vomiting and diarrhoea she believes George is a hyper alergic dog and because it is affecting his liver and gut it could be more food related than plants etc. The fact he is eating but losing weight is another indication and agrees with WAVES he needs crocodile instead. She is thinking he is allergic to chicken.
Anyhow she recommended he only have the crocodile roll with soft boiled white rice, pumpkin, sweet potato and Sylium Husk. So that’s what he is on now for six months unless he has an issue with that.
She also gave him an antibiotic injection for the staph infection in his feet and a course of prednisone which I have to wean him off. She also said to use Malaseb on his feet on a plan that I’m very familiar with from several previous Westies that I have rehomed and rescued over the years.
Of course I’ve packed up all the foods and sealed the boxes ready to take home now that I’m not going to do dog training in Perth any longer like I was. I’ve given away all my cooking pots and pans too so I’ve arranged to go to my cousins home tomorrow and cook up George’s food.
My poor little dog is not his normal happy self again either. He was doing so well but it is far from good again now. Just laying about and not happy.
I’m determined to get to the bottom of his issues and then get on top of it for him.
The vet I saw this evening said he may need to stay on this diet (if it works like she hopes it will) for the rest of his life with no treats at all.
He is not to have his shark cartilage even, just deer antlers to chew on for his teeth. Drat!!!! The shark cartilage did such a great job cleaning his teeth too. All the vets were so impressed when they looked at his teeth. However it is obvious that his well being is the important thing here.
