Lets talk about recall training 🐾

Most people take their dog to the oval, unclip the leash and hope for the best..... 'hope' is not a good strategy when it comes to dogs.... if your dog runs off to something more interesting (Dogs. People. Kids. Etc) then they're less likely to come back to if you shout COME or FLUFFY; GET BACK HERE NOW!
.
To reach a good recall, we must practice LOTS and help our dogs associate the word we choose for a recall. In Katys video, her recall word is 'Here' (Tip.... you can choose any word you like! But be consistent)

She's doing an incredible job here, so we're now adding low level distractions (I am the distraction)
.
As she approaches me - her owner recalls (shouts HERE) and Katy turns on her heels to rush back 🌸
.
The other addition to a recall is making sure your dog is rewarded when they get back. They can be rewarded with a game (like Katy!) Or a few pieces of food, or a toy, or some attention, or ask for obedience AND you can mix it up and do all of these - the options are endless
.

The only structure I've added to Loose Leash Walking is the 'wait' command
This helps a few ways:
* Gets them to listen to me
* They're rewarded with moving forward again (hear me say 'walk on')
* Gives me the opportunity to practice a sit
* Gives me the time to pick up their 💩's
* If they offer a sit I will normally mark and reward (but I didn't in this clip as I was videoing with 1 hand and had the leashes in the other 😆)

🐾 Teeny Tiny Hazel had lots to say when I arrived and she used her highest pitched voice 😖 to let me know she was in the room

🐾 She learnt pretty quick what got my attention & it wasn't her voice 😉

🐾 She learnt so much in such she took herself to her crate a few times and one time she crashed on the floor
.

"Paws Up" is a confidence building exercise - When I first met Moose he barked so much I almost lost my hearing 🤣
He was simply saying:
I'm nervous!!!!
GO AWAY!!!
If I bark and aggress forward, people & dogs move away which has worked for me in the past!!!!
When training a Dog with aggressive tendencies, you need sooooo much patience
Generally, (it doesn't mean all dogs!!) Dogs with aggressive behaviour have no confidence. So they use their aggression to create distance from the scary thing
Give it time. Be patient. Be consistent. And eventually - Your dog WILL get a win 💪🏻
Moose has come so far in his program. He's less barky. He's more confident. He's responding to his owner better. He settles when left alone...... the list goes on 🩵
🐾 This is Zoe back in December when I did a few Walk n Train Sessions (Team Zoe are a client I helped when they first got her as a Puppy)
.
🐾 I always start a walk with the cue "Lets Go" - A cue helps the Dog understand what they need to do
.
🐾 While walking, I want the Dog to follow me if I turn left or right, I want them to stay at my pace, or stop when I do (preferably into an Auto Sit like Zoe demonstrates perfectly)
.
🐾 Getting a Dog to do this needs practice, it needs to be motivating for the Dog and you need to be consistent - once you get all 3 solid, the task of walking can be its own reinforcer for the Dog
.
🐾 What you don't see in this clip is the cue to let her sniff the environment and switch off from concentrating to walk nicely
.
🐾 One thing I never do, is stop the time to sniff - that's totally unfair on the Dog

🐾 Toby has alot to say when another Dog is in his vicinity

🐾 Training for obedience AND impulse control can give Toby a different mindset

🐾 Loose Leash Walking (Obedience) creates focus
.
🐾 'Leave it' creates impulse control and can be an interrupter to prevent Toby blowing up
.
🐾 Inside the home he has another Dog who likes to join in with a bark-fest when the front door knocks - so behind the scenes we've been working hard on Place Command
.
🐾 And both dogs are nailing it - we're seeing a reduced reaction of barking when the door goes and they calm down quicker

🐾 Team Normie have gone from strength to strength since I started working with them

🐾 Prior to meeting me - Team Norman were falling apart & going in opposite directions

🐾 NOW..... Normo is listening to his owner in the environment, is engaged with his owner, is behaving inside the home AND becoming a cafè dog 🥳
.
🐾 In our final session we grabbed an enclosed tennis court and practiced some off-leash work - you can clearly see he's engaged then goes to sniff something and turns on his heal when he hears "NORMAN, COME!!" 🥳🥳🥳

🐾 Zoe has learnt some tricks called 'Turn' - 'Spin' - & 'Shake'..... wihout any input from me 💪

🐾 Other than using the skills I've passed to them for other obedience: Sit. Drop. Leave it. Loose Leash Walking. Recall. Play and a few others.....

🐾 You can achieve anything when you have a relationship with your dog 🤩

🐾 When you're both engaged and you know how to communicate with them through the marker system - training becomes much easier

🐾 Zoe is a high drive dog amd needs lots of mental stimulation and Team Zoe are doing a fantastic job 👌
🐾 It was North's final session the other week (Yep - I'm behind in my socials again!)
.
🐾 We went for a walk down the cycle track and she walked beautifully - no pulling 💪
.
🐾 We had a few cyclists pass by - no lunging 💪
.
🐾 We walked through a subway (some dogs freak out because its so echoey.... echoey (joke! 🤣) - she didn't flinch 💪
.
🐾 Team North are now confident in their training to continue without me - meaning my job is done 💕
🐾 It was Archie's last session with me 😭
.
🐾 Team Archie have come so far since we first met
.
🐾 They've learnt the marker system, leash pressure on/off, engagement, place command & got him on a better diet 🥰
.
🐾 I'm so proud of them - they've put so much work in to achieve these results 💪
