💡 When I first meet prospective clients I often invest some time in trying to learn about their influences in their attempts to train their dog, and/or modify problem behaviours they're dealing with.

💥 There are some names that frequently pop up - perhaps unsurprisingly some of them represent better quality role models than others.

💭 As tends to be the way of the world these days, most often there are names/accounts referenced which have huge social media reach - even though the competency represented in their content is questionable at best.

✅ There are so, so many ways to train dogs, and it can absolutely be the case that someone can be doing high quality work that looks completely unlike the next person.

🔎 This being said, there are some characteristics which tend to be present in good quality dog training work.

⚡ If you're not seeing the largest number of these points consistently featured as part of a particular dog trainer's work then it's worth doing a deeper dive to examine whether that's a great influence on your dog training practice.

Class today. 3 in the foreground doing well. The guys at the back were doing beautifully, then we had a little upset , but the guys handled it beautifully and back to calm. It didn't bother any of these 3!

This little girl was terrified of the motorhome for 2 years . Nothing her owners tried helped , even medication . She was so frightened she shook when put in it even with engine off. 5 weeks after consult she is happily climbing in by herself . searching her snuffle mat for treats and not fazed by the engine on . Yet to drive around because I want her VERY happy before the most dificult part , too much too soon is a common mistake.

Client practising leave it .Any impulse control exercise is great for reactive dogs .

2nd time tracking in class today. She's a natural.I was talking too much.This is why you should film your training sessions- you will see mistakes you didn't know you were making.

Reactivity class yesterday. Reactive dogs passing reactive dogs staying on blankets. (Figured out how to turn video around. I am technology challenged!)..And nice loose leashes on the dogs who have been coming longest. The old hands keep the rewards coming and get loose leashes. The newbies don't reward enough and get pulling!

Class today- reactive dogs on blankets, as reactive dog passes. Well done all... We did a fabulous first time tracking exercise which didn't end up on camera, so next week. There must be a way to turn this video around but I dont know what it is ! Ps I sound like I'm in the army! This is because when the dogs are well spread out I have to yell to be heard and say as few words as possible .

One month after consult , this reactive boy is able to lay on his bed ,mum in the house , and doesn't react to the dog next door barking at the fence . Well done Mum and pup !

I am a nationally qualified and experienced trainer , passionate about building the bond between people and their pets (dogs cats and horses).It is my aim that no pet is given up or put down for behaviour issues . My job is to assist you to understand why dogs, cats and horses do what they do, and teach you how to get your pet to WANT to do what YOU want it to do, without causing fear or pain ,and to give your pet a fulfilled interesting and happy life . A happy dog = a happy owner .

I do not use chokers or other punitive methods . I use psychology (reward based training ) to modify behaviour by using creative learning- by using these techniques your dog will ALMOST train itself .
