The serendipitous moments in life.

Yesterday we were called “Who Gives A Quack”. Kind hoomans, Tracey & Gavin are camping at Clary Hall Dam and found a lonely Muscovy duck. No other ducks anywhere to be found (while they can be in the wild they are most commonly domestic so suspected he was dumped there). Goannas were going after him so they scared them away, guarded him while they called me. Fortunately a wonderful Mother Clucker, Alex, who lives just 40 mins from them was happy to take him in, as companion for her other Muscovy (who recently lost her mate). Now named ‘Marty’ will live a safe life with his companions.

Kindness matters. Tracey, Gavin, Alex, Lachlan. You should be cloned. 🥰❤️

Stories & Testimonials like this one from Ute, make my day and week. While still recovering from huge rescues and adoption days in November & December, I am filled with such gratitude for every Mother Clucker who adopts these beautiful EX Battery Hens. Here is Ute's story:

Hi Julie, I am overflowing with happiness to have found your very well organized organization and met you in person. It was a great experience to adopt the ex battery from your organization . You have changed and improved my world and values with what you do to rehome tired, caged hens. Your continued mentoring and helpful care booklet, provides valuable guidelines and information to build health, harmony and happiness in the flock, in a safe, secure space.
Seeing the new recruits thrive and grow, not only physically, but also mentally, becoming well-adjusted, with lots of energy and very interesting individually personalities, brings me endless happiness and a sense of achievement. I enjoy spending all my spare time with them, and deep bonding develops immediately. They are my wonderful pets, my children. My husband is equally invested, and we sit together admiring all we provide for them to enjoy. My Neighbour calls it “Happy Haven Hen Therapy” as we sit still and silently observing and all our stress from the world disappears. It is very rewarding to adopt Ex battery hens, and their new happiness in their new life is contagious .Thank you Julie for doing a wonderful job .Cheers Ute.

Nahla. “Geez mum you says I could always ride shotgun now. Why do I have to share with those 2?”

Me. “We’re taking them to the vet to be operated on Nahla. You’ll need to learn to share”.

Nahla does share but she makes her feelings clearly known!!

Eggie & Eyeball both had operations on New Year’s Eve. Check out next posts about their recovery.

ROOBOYS (& sometimes their girlfriends) need good homes

If you can give a good home to a Rooboy (& sometimes his girlfriends), promise to not use them for breeding, then read on. We publish our rescued Rooboys on our website, so people adopting them can read all the information about them, where they were rescued from & other details & adopt them for $0, as long as you can offer a good home and complete our online hen parent application.

Please check out the link and share with any friends who may be able to give a Rooboy a good home.

Can you give a good home to a rescued Rooboy? We still have 5 gorgeous roosters rescued from varying situations. They have been wormed and health checked. We will deliver them to the home of any approved Hen Parent in our adoption zones, from Gympie, to Brisbane, Jimboomba, Gold Coast, Mullumbimby, to Lismore, Grafton, down to Nambucca. If you're already a Mother Clucker (approved Hen Parent), then go right ahead and reserve your boy. If you'd like to adopt a boy and you're not yet a Mother Clucker, then still click on the link, check out the boys, reserve one and on this same site you can complete the Hen Parent Application letting me know which rooboy you would like to give a home to.

Sometimes all you need is a friend who understands. Betty boo (on right) has spent a bit of time with Houdini (my partners 5 yr old Chookie that was head honcho till she hurt her leg so got pecked on). The 2 of them understand each others challenges.

Who doesn’t like breakfast in bed while watching your favourite movie? For Betty Boo, it’s a chookies video with hens scratching, walking, clucking. The sounds inspire her to eat more (she definitely eats more). I hope she’s imagining her life when she’s walking again, but this time on the ground, with friends instead of in a cage.

Betty Boo. I’ve been doing Comfrey poultices on her back & today tried her on fresh comfrey leaf. As long as rolled up into little balls, she gobbled it down. Go Betty boo. You’ll be standing very soon! (See previous posts for Betty boo story). ❤️🙏

The girls have settled in well. The rain set in hard again so we have moved them under shelter in our screened in porch. They will come inside overnight as we know there are foxes around. We even got our first egg!!

Thank you for everything you do. Was lovely to meet you all today. Looking forward to our journey as Mother Cluckers. ❤️

Love from Leanne, Eden and Summer Quinn ❤️🐓

Brookfield adoption day. 3 more wonderful Mother Cluckers & some cutie patooties (the hoomans are pretty good too!)😜.

A huge shout out to all volunteers who teamed together to make yesterday and today a well organised, fun time together. Each one of you really make my heart sing. I am sure grateful for this community.

Thankyou Brookfield Produce Brookies Rural Traders for allowing us to use your space for this event. It’s a great location for our annual adoption.

Brookfield Mother Cluckers. You are all cluckin awesome! 44 wonderful families came to adopt 199 now EX battery hen girls (& 11 came home with us for extra care). Here are just 10 (only allowed to publish 20 photos at a time) of the Mother Cluckers who adopted today. Wish we photographed you all. Please comment below with photos of your beautiful selves with your chookies. Another heart warming day that gives me hope for humanity. May more people have the love and care for our feathered friends, as you all do.

When you make an omelette then consider the ones gobbling it up and add a few extras. Chooks love eggs, raw, boiled, scrambled! Adding herbs, veges, fruits. Hospital girls get the best cuisine!

Did you hear the one about 4 chooks & a dog? I’m not telling you. No clucking way. No-chicka-bow-wow Can you tell I’m hot & bothered! Phew it’s hot.

Break in the Roadtrip, by a dam, in the shade. A long day for all of us.

12 girls have gone home with their mother Clucker Mumma, Anna, so now it’s just this motley crew!
