Happy new year to all my clients and Facebook followers. The new year is such a great time to reflect on where we are on our journey with our horses and where we want to be. Whether it’s competition success, improving our riding skills or developing greater harmony with our equine partners, the help of a good coach can be invaluable in setting us on the right path. With over 40 years experience of riding all types of horses in various equestrian disciplines I would love to help you achieve your riding goals. Offering lessons in Port Macquarie, Wauchope and surrounding areas, I’m Equestrian Australia qualified and insured. PM, phone or text for more information (0457134307). Happy riding in 2025😊

Coaching at home today with Bethany Plummer doing a great job of riding my super standie Tiny. Tiny’s a great schoolmaster for perfecting a stable upper body position with his big rhythmical trot.

Wish we saw more like the video below on equestrian social media. Videos seem to be full of short reins and high hands, holding the horses head in the preferred dressage position poll high whilst the horses back is hollow and weak. I’ve witnessed this style of riding very recently on a horse no where near ready to be in that kind of frame and the result is anxiety and an inability to flow forward without constant pushing by the rider. We need to stop holding horses in these false positions and take them through the scales of training, long, low and learning to lift through the back and carry weight in the hindquarters before we ask them for a more advanced frame.

The revelations around horse abuse in dressage are disturbing and disappointing. I hope that it empowers and educates riders to be selective about their equestrian mentors and seek those who train with kind, ethical and correct methods rather than being blinded by competition success or status alone.
