Walwa Veterinary Practice would like to welcome aboard, Dr Henry Kneebone to our dynamic team.
Dr Henry is a community minded large animal veterinarian, looking to expand into true mixed practice.

Since graduating in 2021 Dr Henry has encountered a broad case log of equine, ruminant, camelid, and avian species. Special interests areas include colic, endocrinology, podiatry, and herd health. He also has a passion and great skill with orthopedics. In a nutshell, Dr Henry is a valuable all-rounder.

We are excited to have Dr Henry on our team for the next few months, and we look forward to achieving an excellent level of patient care together. We hope this isn't the last time he comes to visit!

As most of you will have noticed, we no longer have the pleasure of Dr Kasey Sherwood's presence within our practices.

Dr Kasey joined us almost 2 years ago, coming from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. It has been a pleasure to be part of her growth in skill and confidence in this time. Her surgery knowledge and intuition to explore all options, made her popular with patients and clients alike. Her bright and bubbly personality made her a valuable member of the team.

We would like to thank Dr Kasey for all your hard work and dedication to the care of our local community and their pets. Her passion and presence will be missed, along with that near famous giggle. She has decided to take some time to explore and spread her wings a little, I believe there may be some travel involved!

From all the team at Walwa & Tumbarumba Veterinary Practice we would like to wish you success in your endeavours and best wishes for the future. You are welcome back anytime Kasey.

Good Luck, safe travels and see you soon!

đŸ± Cat Vaccine Shortage đŸ±

As many of you are aware, there is an ongoing national shortage of vaccinations for our feline friends.
Across Walwa & Tumbarumba clinics, cat vaccine supplies are low and we have to prioritise the few remaining vaccines for the most at risk cats, on a case-by-case basis.

🐈‍⬛What does this mean for you?
- Where possible, keeping unvaccinated cats and kittens inside to help minimise spread of disease.
- If you have an adult cat that is due for their booster and you would like to be put on a wait list for when supply returns, please contact either clinic via the phone numbers below.

🐈 We love seeing your kittens and cats in the clinic and we are still available for all other health and wellbeing services.

Please contact the friendly teams at either Walwa (02 6037 1399) or Tumbarumba (02 6948 2100) for any queries or questions regarding your cat’s vaccination schedule.

Last Thursday night, David welcomed the newest member of his family ‘Beryl Moonstone’, a sweet little mule filly.
Her story began on the 20th December 2022, with a chilled semen, artificial insemination right here at the Walwa practice.
Her sire, ‘Moses’ (Diamond Creek Moonwatcher) is the only USA imported American Mammoth Jack. He has proven progeny in the USA over a range of disciplines- show jumping, dressage, pony club and stock work.
The road to meeting this little girl, has not been without it’s challenges! You may be able to see from the ultrasound image below, there are 2 foetuses present. In fact, there were 3 identified at the time of her first pregnancy scan, 14 days post insemination. The mare is really only designed to carry one baby at a time, meaning sometimes we have to intervene and terminate the less viable foetus in its early stages. This gives both mare and remaining foal the best chance of survival.
Thankfully, Beryl’s mum, ’Garnet’, was clever enough to work this out without needing our assistance, and both are going really well.

Please give the clinic a call if you’d like to discuss the equine reproductive services we offer.

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of our very own Dr. Renee.
We love having Renee as part of the team, from her love of all things Disney, to her compassion and commitment to providing all our patients with the best care possible.
Not just an amazing vet, but a super star human being as well.
Join us in saying happy birthday to this beautiful soul.

With Christmas fast approaching, we want to let all our wonderful clients know that we will be taking a short, but much needed break over the Christmas and New Years period. As always, we will be providing an afterhours service from our Walwa clinic during this time, but this will be strictly for emergencies only.
If you have an animal that is on a prescription medication, now is the time to start thinking about whether or not you have enough to get them through until the new year!
Our last business day for 2023 will be Friday the 22nd of December, to ensure we have enough of the right medication for your pet, please call our clinic prior to this and have a chat to one of our friendly staff.
Advance notice for prescription refills is preferred, otherwise the wait time can be up to 15 minutes during busy times.

Today we had a drive through/ ride through service at the Walwa Vet Practice.
This lovely duo with their trusty steads rode from Guys Forest to Jingellic today & made a quick pitstop to collect some first aid supplies to keep all travellers happy and on their way.
They have been on the trail for 14 days and rode a total of 138km.

Christmas is just around the corner which means holiday season is nearly here! While many of us are making plans for Christmas which often includes traveling to see friends and family, it's easy to forget about our 4 legged family members. If your dog is travelling with you or going into a boarding facility over the holiday season, now is the time to start thinking about their preventative health care needs!
Vaccinations keep our dogs safe from potentially deadly diseases, and thorough preventative health care plans including worming and flea/tick treatment ensure they are safe and protected from things like paralysis ticks, flea infestations and deadly heartworm.
Is your dog up to date with their vaccinations and preventative health care?
Unsure what vaccinations your dog needs or how often? Or wondering what over the counter treatments are available?
Why not give our friendly team a call today to discuss these important questions.

A big thank you to everyone who attended our ‘Raising the Steaks: Better Breeding and Biosecurity’ event last night! We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you!
None of this would’ve been possible without the generous contribution from the team at Zoetis. A special thank you to Andrew Carr for giving up his time, to share some of the great products and knowledge they have at hand to keep our cattle fit and healthy.
Thanks also to the Jingellic Hub for hosting, Eve Quihampton for all of your behind the scenes efforts, Renee DeClifford for your stellar MC performance and all those who helped behind the bar and in setup.
Please let us know what topics you’d like to see covered next time 😊

Did you know that dog's can suffer from painful arthritis the same way we can?
This month we are shining a light on canine osteoarthritis, its symptoms, the different behaviours dog's may exhibit when suffering from arthritis, and the different treatment options available to keep them as comfortable as possible. For the month of August, we are offering discounted geriatric wellness exams for all dog's aged over 7 years, where we can tailor a health care plan to suit your dog.
Is your dog slow to rise or struggling to jump onto the couch? Are they lagging behind on walks?
If you've answered yes to any of these, call us today to make an appointment with one of our experienced vets and start your dog on the journey back to being their normal, energetic self.

This little kelpie is somewhat of a frequent flyer here at our clinic over the last couple of weeks. A rather nasty wound meant this lovely lady was in need of an Elizabethan collar to stop her from traumatizing the surgical site, however the usual collars just weren’t doing the trick. The team decided to get a bit creative, and this was the result! Dr. Renee thinks she looks fabulous!
