Most dogs are looking for their human to say "Hey, I am confident in what we are doing, so let's do it together." When we are unsure or sending negative signals down that lead especially with reactive dogs it really clouds the dogs ability to relax & feel secure with you. Consistency & confident handling, neither harsh nor punishing, but instead 'directing' can quickly realign the relationship and improve any reactivity👍

The happiness of a paralyzed puppy when he goes for a walk with his master! What a gift the quadruped received. A walk with his master, the most precious gift for a loyal four-legged friend!, A dog’s happiness with its elderly owner shows us again how much we mean to our four-legged friends. To...

Interesting week of dog training consults, seems the South Burnett region has found me 😊👍🐕

30/08/2023

For every behavorial consult i have done over the years there is one underlying theme, the dog has never been trained for 'calmness.' If there's one thing to train, train that, calmness in all situations. A calm dog is happy, at ease & non reactive.

Grrrr .. get so sick of the rubbish jargon people through out at times in the dog industry (or any industry that tries to monopolize ideas & concepts). Nowadays any trainer that isn't in the 'Positive Only Force Free' movement gets crucified ! Let's be clear here using science/facts; Positive means "to add" and Negative means "to subtract/take away" NOT Positive means "good" & Negative means "bad," this is a PERCEPTION and not based on SCIENCE ... Am I a positive only force free trainer ? I am happy to say NO, I use a balanced approach, train the dog Infront of me & don't buy into the Bu****it that corrections are cruel ! .... Another rant over

A shout out to all Foster Carers & Rescue Groups .... Your dedication & work is truly appreciated as this is a very tough job🙏

Meet the predecessor to dog rescuers, Camberley Kate!
In 1943 Kate bought a cottage in Yorktown, and soon afterwards took in her first stray, a dog which had been about to be put down due to lameness.

As word grew, the number of dogs in her cottage increased – some being tied to her door, some left in carrier bags, others brought in by the police or other agencies. At the end of her life she estimated that she had looked after more than 600 dogs and local vet Geoffrey Craddock, a great admirer of Kate work testified that they were well looked after. An entry in the 1957 directory FOR Camberley reads “Ward K 218 London Road., Cam., Dogs Home”. In 1976 she stated that she had 34 dogs, although by 1977 she had cut this down to 19, as she had been told to go easier at the age of 82! The growth of other dog rescue centres helped in this regard. She also had at least one cat.

Kate and her olive-green painted hand cart, labelled STRAY DOGS, was a familiar sight locally as she pushed it from Yorktown to Camberley each day, through the town centre and up to Barossa Common, on a route suggested by the police. Some of the dogs were allowed to ride in the cart, others were attached to it with lengths of string, and occasionally a favoured few ran loose alongside. Inside the cart, there was usually some meat for the dogs and a shovel to clean any mess away. The dogs were controlled with the help of a whistle. Locals became used to the sight of Kate pushing her cart along the busy London Road although it never ceased to amaze outsiders.

As a local celebrity Kate and her dogs were much photographed, a situation she tolerated as long as the photographer gave a donation for the upkeep of the animals. She also sold her own photographic postcards, and gave short shrift to those who tried to take their own pictures. Generous supporters gave money to assist her work and some even left bequests. She was scrupulous that this money should be used only for its intended purpose: the dogs had their own bank account, administered by 2 trustees. She left money in trust for the few dogs left at her death.

Not sure of the author but kudos to them👏I have ranted on about this for decades. DON'T socialize your dog or puppy like "a Politian trying to get votes !!" but instead use "Exposure & Acclimation" - Let your dog or puppy see/view/be around (exposure) to other dogs (with NO contact EVER) so their get used to/accustom to strange/unknown dogs/people (acclimation) but the WHOLE time you are reinforcing your dog or puppy to NOT pay attention to them. Give it a go and if you need assistance you can reach out for advise through my Zoom Virtual Training Sessions https://www.iik9pro.com/

From NO self/impulse control and becoming reactive to cars, bikes, people, dogs & birds to a calm, self controlled fur-dude😁 2 months on and Teddy is showing no reactivity & making good choices which means he can have a much better quality of life rather than stuck in a backyard in a state of anxious reactivity. Teddy's wonderful owners did the training and the results speak for themselves 👍🐶😁
