Do you want to know how you can mentally & physically prepare your horse for spring/summer/daylight savings fun & riding activities, including clinics & Pony Club Tasmania rallys/events if you start now with as little as 10 minutes a day. See my below offer & secure your booking. Weekday & weekend availability as well as undercover available if weather not great. ***The first 5 bookings will also receive a complimentary hoof trim & balance to support good body posture.
Lets all show we do put our horses welfare & happiness first & foremost.
Dont leave important considerations off your checklist.
Worming to manage parasite levels.
eg Annual Dental/Vet exam Dr Shannon Lee of Advanced Equine Dentistry is currently working in Nthn Tas (msg Nelly Jaehne for availability) & progressing to Sthn Tas (msg Libby Franz).
No hoof No horse so be diligent & ensure this is kept up to date all year & that your hoof care provider is achieving correct hoof angles. If not - speak up - youre employing them!
Manage your horses diet in accordance with their needs, the season & whats required of them. Remember that horses are grazing animals with small sensitive stomachs that need constant content travelling through to function without adverse effects. High fibre/roughage is their staple constant requirement with smaller concentrate feed to provide vitamins, minerals & energy replacement as needed. Remember that sugar is toxic to horses as is evident by the high incidence worldwide of laminitis & cushings.

Special package deal for Aug/Sept only. Bodywork - Groundwork lesson - Saddlefit Assessment for only $190 ๐ŸŒŸ. That's a massive saving of $115.
WHY AUG/SEPT:
Daylight savings starts in Oct & everyone will want to be riding again after the winter break. The horses are not fit for the riders expectations & spring grass adds its own challenges.
BODYWORK releases any tight spots, identifies any areas of concern & prepares their soft unfit muscles to begin being conditioned to wearing a saddle & carrying a rider. It's good insurance for the rider to know what's going on with their horses body before they get on.
GROUNDWORK can & should be started now. Even 10 minutes a day makes a significant difference to how your horse will accept coming back in to ridden work. Not just any groundwork. I'm not talking about lunging circles. I'm talking about slow, careful groundwork that connects you with your horse so they really think about hoof placement & body posture. It's about open communication where you are both present for each other. Horses love this work & done well they seek the safety & connection with their human as the trust bond gets stronger. An important factor to have established before ridden work begins. The rider will always be far safer when their horse trust's the riders guidance.
SADDLEFIT is paramount as it's the cause of many sore horses backs. Horses change shape & so do saddles & riders. Make sure the saddle is in good repair, fits the horse & isn't going to cause the horse discomfort or pain. If the rider has gained some weight over winter it may make a big difference to the horse if the rider has outgrown the saddle.
SO I want to offer these all in one combined sessions... 1on1...weekday or weekend for Aug/Sept to help you & your horse be ready for much riding fun when daylight savings starts. It's about doing the right thing by our horses & preparing them for the riding ahead.
Bookings are essential & anyone who needs or would like more than 1 session, I'm happy to accommodate.
My website gives an idea of availability & you contact me direct to book. $90 booking fee is required (non-refundable) with $100 balance paid when you come for your session. Allow up to 3 hours as this is thorough.

Equine Assisted Learning/Skill Development at Donovan Park.
Tired horses after a busy morning morning working with a fabulous group of Burnie High students. Half way through the Communication Program & these students are making huge progress ๐Ÿ’ช. The activities are challenging & frustrating but I'm in awe how these teens are pushing through their own comfort zones & being so helpful & supportive of each other. They step up & volunteer & are learning so much through the mirror the horses provide them. I'm so excited for these teens & for their next 4 weeks of EAL/EASD. ๐Ÿค—โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿฆ„

Does your ADHD kiddo understand how their brain learns best? Are they looking forward to starting a new school year? Are you ready to meet with their teacher to discuss your kiddos learning needs? A bit of forward planning can set them up for success but if you throw them in the deep end they may fail on their own.

Chronic stress at school can make kids (particularly those with ADHD or LD) dread going โ€” and change their brains for the worse. But parents and teachers can help alleviate the stress that is stopping these bright kids from succeeding.

Round

What does it mean to make your horse round?

Contrary to what many believe, round, when it pertains to the horse, is not in the neck but rather in the back. Sadly, the hyper fixation on having a particular head set is part of a larger problem which stems from the lack of understanding in what a properly moving horse looks like, as well as how horses use their body to help themselves balance and move when they lack the physical strength and training to be in self carriage. Any position, regardless of whether it is considered "healthy" and correct, if held consistently throughout the ride will create tension. Suppleness is brought by constant changes in posture throughout the training session, however these position can never be forced or held by the rider, only encouraged and guided.

Roundness itself refers to the back of the horse, who through correct training is able to carry himself with his hind as opposed to pulling himself along and "grabbing ground" with the forelegs. The measure of self carriage is by assessing the angle of the spine and the engagement of the abdominal muscles and hind end through high-level movements.
