NSW GOVERNMENT RESCINDS PROMISED GRANT TO BYRON BAY WILDLIFE HOSPITAL!

BBWH is the only ALL-wildlife *free* hospital in the Northern Rivers of NSW. Not to mention their emergency mobile unit that travels to disasters around Australia.

WE CANNOT LOSE THIS VITAL SERVICE.

Please write to Minister Sharpe and ask for this decision to be withdrawn and to proceed with the promised $6 million grant
or at least to agree to meet with BBWH for further discussions.

Dear BIOLAC Customers

It's come to our attention that there has been delays in the movement of our parcels through Australia Post due to the Easter season, etc. We do apologise for any inconvenience, but please understand that it is out of our control.

We have also had recent deaths in our family and this has, obviously, impacted on our lives.

Thank you to all those customers who have shown understanding and patience and for those who have sent us their condolences.

Kind regards
Leisa and Ken

We all know that wildlife rehabilitation can be so rewarding but it can also be extremely distressing, for a number of reason which I know you all know, so I don't need to go into that.

Did you know...

WildTalk is a charitable organisation created by Frances Carleton. Frances and her experienced team of counsellors offer FREE 24/7 counselling, debriefing and training to Australian wildlife carers. If you have any wildlife (or even non-wildlife) woes, WildTalk have your back. Being able to talk to qualified counsellors helps to ease our troubled minds which will enable us to care for animals so much better.

WildTalk now need us to help them.

Running this valuable service costs money!!! WildTalk receives no government funding, and they also don't receive any funding from the biggest wildlife organisation/s in Australia (you know who they are).

So, I'm asking you today to help WildTalk help you help the animals.

Please, if you fundraise for your group and have a bit to spare, consider donating to WildTalk. Alternatively, spread the word about WildTalk's valuable contribution to our community. Please tell your friends and family about how WildTalk are helping us stay sane!!

We can't afford to lose this service....

The wildlife are weeping.

Our dear friend, Brett Ryan, has lost his battle to cancer.

Brett had been devoted to wildlife rehabilitation and fire fighting for many, many moons. He rescued and rehabilitated numerous Australian native animals and had been a dedicated fire fighter with the Fire & Rescue NSW, Station 007, Hornigsec Park Fire Station.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his friends, colleagues, family and of course to Cate, his wife and soul mate.

Over the Rainbow Bridge awaits the wildlife that Brett has eased the passing of. Here he will wait for his beloved Cate to one day be together again.

Rest well, Brett.

Much love, Ken and Leisa Wenham and the extended Biolac family.
xoxo

WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

There are so many threats confronting wildlife right across the world. Poaching and illegal wildlife trade, culling, burying animals alive, urban development, habitat loss, disease and illness... and the list goes on.

Take some time today to do something for wildlife. Whether that be donating to a wildlife charity to help them with their mission to protect wildlife ; plant trees ; create a water oasis in your garden ; educate others about wildlife ; write to ministers and insist that better protection be put in place for fauna AND flora.

If you'd like, share a photo of what you are doing today to celebrate World Wildlife Day.

WILDLIFE SCAM ALERT

***PLEASE NOTE : it is illegal to trade in Australian native marsupials within Australia***

Yesterday morning we discovered a person calling themselves WOGA LOVEFLIN advertising baby wombats for sale on the "About Wombats" page. (About Wombats has no affiliation with this person).

We acted quickly on this matter and it has been reported to the Cyber Crimes police unit in Australia and also the Australian Commonwealth Government (breach of Australian environmental law). The bank account details (in pictures) that have been provided to our undercover sleuths have been frozen by Australian police, however we don't know if more bank account details have been provided to others.

There are a few licensed wildlife rehabilitation groups that have been dragged into this persons fraudulent activities - they are in no way connected to this case - they are unwilling victims of cyber crime.

Please do not reply to this person. Please contact us if you have become involved and we can pass the details on to the police.

PLEASE SHARE WIDELY WITH YOUR WILDLIFE AND NON-WILDLIFE FRIENDS.

We are in agreement with this post - the NSW Wildlife Rehabilitation sector *as a whole* needs a complete overhaul. It's not working, we are losing carers and the animals are suffering because of it.

***NSW WILDLIFE REHABILITATION SECTOR***

It seems as though the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is reviewing the Wildlife Rehabilitation sector in NSW (2020-23).

The strategy for the Wildlife Rehabilitation sector will soon be up for further review, giving us an opportunity to comment and share our experiences that show change is desperately needed.

There is an anonymous letter now doing the rounds, which is very well considered and full of important information. However, it is directed at ONE wildlife rehabilitation group and the author of the letter is anonymous. I'm not a fan of "anonymous", especially in this scenario.

The sector needs reviewing - absolutely and beyond a shadow of a doubt!! But it's the whole sector, not one specific group.

We are losing quality carers in droves. The wildlife are suffering.

Here is the link to the strategy document -
