Can you help Wollongong Police as they investigate an act of animal cruelty?

About 8.30am today (22 January 2023), a bushwalker located an injured Australian Bulldog in an upside-down kennel at the base of an escarpment near Clive Bissell Drive at Mount Ousley.

A rescue operation took place to retrieve the dog, involving officers from Wollongong Police District, Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, along with the SES,

It’s believed the kennel had been thrown off the cliff in the early hours of today.

The dog was taken to a local vet; however, sadly had to be euthanised due to his poor condition and injuries.

An investigation into the incident is underway by local police and RSPCA NSW ; the kennel has been seized and is undergoing forensic examination.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with a dashcam that drove through the area this morning and might have footage that can assist, to contact local police or Crime Stoppers.

More than 38 million birds in bird flu-stricken USA have been murdered to prevent further loss of profit. How were they thanked for a lifetime of imprisonment and having their bodies (and lives) exploited for profit? The farmers shut off their air supply and turned up the heat.

It’s called the ‘ventilation shutdown’ method, and, condemned by vets, it’s regarded as "the most inhumane method available". One of the workers admitted to The Guardian, "They cooked those birds alive."

The trapped birds are seen to “writhe, gasp, pant, stagger and even throw themselves against the walls of their confinement in a desperate attempt to escape”.

This is the kind of torture we'd expect to hear in the trial of a war criminal at The Hague... but for poultry farmers it's business as usual.

This is not the first bird flu pandemic, and it's not the last, but what do they do in response? Nothing. They just breed in a new generation of birds and pack them into the same pathogenic environment.

We're still struggling with Covid, also caused by our treatment of animals, so what will it take for us to rethink this industrialised exploitation of animals? What will it take for people to change?

Make no mistake, bird flu has overwrought Europe, the USA and China this year and it will come to Australia too. We have the exact same disgusting factory farms: they’re a danger to human health and they’re a danger to wildlife.

A spokesperson for Local Land Services said vets in the region had been notified and pet owners have the option of vaccinating their rabbits against the virus.

Pet rabbit owners are advised they can minimise the risk of the virus by keeping their pet indoors and ensuring wild rabbits cannot access their yards.
