🌏🦘🐾 National Wildlife Day! 🐾🦜🌿

Today we celebrate the incredible wildlife that makes Australia so unique – from kangaroos and koalas to the smallest backyard birds and reptiles. 💚

Caring for our pets goes hand-in-hand with protecting our native animals.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:
✨ Keep cats indoors or in cat runs to protect birds & small mammals
✨ Walk dogs on-leash in bushland areas
✨ Plant native trees and shrubs to provide food & shelter

🦷 Have you checked your Cats teeth lately? 🦷

Minx visited the clinic yesterday after his Dad noticed one of his teeth hanging out of his mouth (it’s definitely not supposed to do that!)

Because we are such big advocates for Dental Health, the NIVH Team got Minx admitted so we could X-Ray his teefies 🩻

We found a fracture of his tooth, which was caused by what we call ‘Resorptive Lesions’ which break down and weaken the tooth. It’s likely that even a small bump could have caused this tooth to fracture! 🦴

Cats are notorious for hiding their pain, but some signs of resorptive lesions in your kitty cat may include:

🪥 Excessive drooling
🪥 Difficulty or reluctance to eat
🪥 Irritability
🪥 Pawing at the mouth

The team loves to talk everything dental so if you think any of these signs ring a bell, feel free to give us a call ! 😌

Sticky Situation for Vinnie! 😮

On Wednesday morning Vinnie decided he wanted to try new foods, and a bottle of super glue looked like the perfect place to start (in Vinnie’s defence the bottle was knocked onto the floor by a Cat…)

His family quickly brought him into the fast acting team here at NIVH, who were able to sedate him and remove the glue that had stuck to his furr and his cute little baby teeth 🥺

Vinnie wants to remind everyone that “Puppy Proofing” your house is super important and can help keep curious mouths away from nasty toxins and chemicals!

Once he was awake and feeling less sticky he got a yummy meal and headed home to tell everyone about his cheeky adventure 😇😅

Show and Tell (what really happens when we say we are taking your pet ‘out the back’ 😝)

Lemon the Tonkinese had some sore eyes after joining his new family, so we got him booked in for a visit with Dr Vanessa to help get him all healed up 💛

He is now fully recovered and we all got our much needed kitten cuddles … win win !! 🐈🐈‍⬛
