π How Hot is Too Hot? π
βWith temperatures set to reach 40C over the next couple of days, it's a good time to remind pet parents about the dangers of heatstroke.βοΈπ‘
During extreme hot weather events it's essential that we keep our pets cool and comfortable. Heatstroke can cause organ failure, brain damage and is potentially fatal. Short nosed breeds of cats and dogs, elderly or ill pets, dogs which exercise excessively and overweight pets are particularly at risk.
To ensure the safety of your pets on sizzling summer days, please follow these tips:
π Exercise your dog in the early morning or evening, and avoid hot footpaths and artificial grass.
π¬ If you are at home, keep your pets inside in the air-conditioning. If you do not have aircon, use fans to increase air circulation.
π³ If you have to leave your pets outside, ensure that there is adequate shade for them to escape to.
π¦ Provide plenty of fresh clean drinking water.
π NEVER leave your pet in the car.
