it's not just humans who suffer from allergies. Our dogs can too! Here are some symptoms of allergies in dogs, some of which can be caused by food.

If you notice any of these, consult your vet for care and treatment!

Ok, folks..it's that time of year again where Barbados feels like it's moved off planet earth to the sun. We are all feeling it, including your dogs.

Just a gentle reminder that you need to consider their comfort and well being, as well. You can help to keep them cool by:
1) Giving cool water to drink (chilled with a little ice)
2) Providing a shaded place for them to relax, preferably with some cooling breeze. They also like lying on cool surfaces like tiles.
3) Providing a cooling treat, like ice clubes made of non-sweetened yogurt. You can add a seasonal fruit, if you like, but avoid grapes and seeds of all fruit to be safe.

Remember that dogs lose heat through their tongues and the pads of their feet. They do not sweat as we do, so minimal heat is lost through the skin. Shaving them down is not the answer. Brush them often to remove dead or matted hair which will trap warm air close to the skin and make room for problems like hot spots and other skin infections.

This is particulaly so for double coated dogs. Shaving them down makes their heat problem worse. More brushing is the key.

Make sure to walk them in the coolest times of the day so they are not exposed to high atmospheric and walking surface temperatures.

Stay safe everyone.

From a local Vet....
This tick has been hanging around for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container with no additional feeding she laid eggs. This gives you an idea of how long a tick can be dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember ticks bloom again in the fall so keep up with prevention.

It's been a bitter sweet day so far. It feels like a whole day.

I just put Luna on a flight to her mum mum who relocated a month ago.

It's been my joy to take care of her and make all of her arrangements to travel, even though the first agents in Miami ghosted us at the last minute. All of the arrangements on this end were already made. By God's grace I found a company who was willing to accept a job on Sunday afternoon for a dog to arrive on Tuesday, to be forwarded on.

Anyways, I know Luna will be overjoyed to see her mum mum. But before that she will be anxious about all the new sights, sounds, scent and people. I am nervous for her and I wasn't expecting to, but I was crying. It's like I had a daughter who was leaving for university.

I will miss her but I know she is going to have the time of her life on the other side of this trip.

Love you, Luna😘

This sweet boy is a real Romeo. Lots of love and kisses to share. Now we can see his cute little face.
