আমারা সবাই জীবনের কোনো না কোনো সময়ে নিজের অজান্তেই খুব মূল্যবান ভূমিকা পালন করি। কখনো নিজের খুব কাছের মানুষের জন্য, পরিবারের জন্য, সমাজের জন্য বা এমন কারো জন্য যার সাথে হয়তো কখনো আমাদের আর দেখাই হবে না। জীবন কখনো অর্থহীন হয় না। এই ছবির আগাছা গুলোর কথাই যদি চিন্তা করি... যার জীবন আপেক্ষিক দৃষ্টিতে হয়তো আমাদের কাছে অপ্রয়োজনীয় ও মূল্যহীন, কিন্তু এই মুহূর্তটার পূর্ণতা পেতে তার ভূমিকা অনস্বীকার্য।

Zebra waxbill...
They average 3.5 to 4 inches or 8.75 to 10 cm in length. The irises are reddish. The plumage is dark olive-green. Their breasts are bright orange and the bill is red. With a body mass of five to eight gram Gold-breasted Waxbills are among the smallest Estrildian finches. Despite looking like colourful tiny fragile things they are among the hardiest and easiest to breed African finches. No wonder that they are so popular and on the wish list of many finch lovers.

Quelea...
also called red-billed quelea, or dioch, is a small brownish bird of Africa, belonging to the songbird family. Queleas breed in thorn-scrub country: every bush and tree for miles around may contain hundreds of their globular nests, which are built by the males (black-faced, with pinkish foreparts at that season). Queleas are thought to be among the most populous bird species in the world. The quelea feeds primarily on seeds of annual grasses, but also causes extensive damage to cereal crops. Therefore, it is sometimes called "Africa's feathered locust"

Red headed weaver...
The red headed weaver found mostly in Africa. They are perfect nest builder just like other weaver birds. Male can be monogamous or polygamous in nature. Pairs occupy broadleaf woodland and moist savanna, where they frequently join mixed-species flocks, foraging for insects by diligently searching leaves and branches. The species is often detected by its distinctive, high-pitched insect-like squeaks and chips that are incorporated into a typical weaver call and song.

The green singing finch is often known as the green singer in captivity. But this isn’t the end of its names! Officially it is called the Yellow-fronted canary (originally Serinus Mozambique, now Crithagra Mozambique) and is considered the African cousin of the wild bird which domesticated canaries descend from.

Combassou finch...
The Combassou is a Whydah or Indigobird, also called the Village Indigobird due to its association with human villages. It is native to much of sub-Saharan Africa. The male has beautiful, glossy, dark blue breeding plumage but looks like any other brown female finch or sparrow in non-breeding plumage. The female has the same finch-like plumage all year. All Whydahs/Indigobirds are "cuckoos" or brood parasites: they lay their eggs in the nest of a host finch, although they don't destroy their host's eggs. In the case of the Combassou, the Red-billed Firefinch is the chosen host and the young learn its song from the foster father.

Pytilia...
The orange-winged pytilia (Pytilia afra), also known as the golden-backed pytilia is an unusual and pretty member of the waxbill family found in Africa. Generally scarce and inconspicuous. Found in the understory of moist habitats, including miombo and other lush woodland, and in forest edge. It is found at elevations up to 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above sea level. The orange-winged pytilia is parasitised by the broad-tailed paradise whydah, which mimics its call. Because the species has a large range and a stable population trend, the IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.

Diamond firetail...
As you can see in this picture, the male diamond firetails perform a mating call with a piece of dried grass in their beak while jumping up and down. It is one of the firetail finch species that inhabit Australia. With fiery red tail feathers and rump, this finch species has been fittingly named as “firetail”. The striking plumage of the diamond firetails make them popular in aviculture. However, they are not particularly suited for inexperienced keepers as they are hard to breed, are assertive in behavior, and are difficult to s*x. Lifespan 5-7 years in the wild, 10 years in captivity.

Gold breasted Waxbill/Zebra waxbill...
The tiny Gold breasted Waxbill (Amandava subflava) also known Zebra Waxbill or Orange breasted Waxbills are a real avian treasure and beauty to observe. These sparrow-like finches are native to sub-Saharan Africa - where they inhabit the grassland and savannas south of the Sahara. Gold-breasted waxbills for sale had been classified as a threatened species in the past but their numbers have recovered and they are now available to bird keepers worldwide.
Size / Weight: 3.5" in length / about 7 gm
Breeding: In captivity, breeding Gold Breasted Waxbills can be stimulated at any time of year provided the right conditions; spring-summer breeding is typically recommended.
Lifespan: 5-6 years
Gold Breasted Waxbills can do well in a mixed aviary with other passive species; providing plenty of covers will reduce minor bickering.

Owl Finch...
As their name suggests, owl finches look like little owls with their distinctive markings. These are curious and social little birds. The owl finch a grass finch, also known as the Bicheno finch or the double-barred finch, is a lively addition to a community aviary and a good bird for the novice who may not have a lot of experience with birds. It stands between 3 and 4 inches in length, and has two distinct black bars above and below a whitish-beige chest. The owl finch is native habitat is Australia, particularly the woodlands, grasslands, and scrublands. Owl finches are active little birds and curious, too. They will come check anything new added to their aviary or flight cage. The owl finch needs generous housing, and does best in a larger space, an aviary is great, one that’s full of branches and safe foliage.

The Java sparrow, also known as Java finch, Java rice sparrow or Java rice bird, is a small passerine bird. This estrildid finch is a resident breeding bird in Java, Bali and Bawean in Indonesia. It is a popular cage bird, and has been introduced into many other countries. The Java sparrow has been a popular cage bird in Asia for centuries, first in China's Ming Dynasty and then in Japan from the 17th century, frequently appearing in Japanese paintings and prints. Meiji-era writer Natsume Sōseki wrote an essay about his pet Java sparrow. In the late 1960s and early 1970s the Java sparrow was one of the most popular cage birds in the United States until its import was banned. Today it remains illegal to possess in California because of a perceived threat to agriculture, although rice-dependent Asian countries like China, Taiwan and Japan have not regulated the bird. In Asia the Java sparrow is most often raised almost from birth by human breeders and owners, and they become very tame and attached to humans.

History
Pigeons have been used to carry messages for centuries. However, during the Nineteenth Century, the communication value of the bird--especially for carrying messages during war--became appreciated. Breeders competed to develop ever faster birds. Competitions soon developed, with pigeon racing growing into a popular sport throughout Western Europe and in the United States.
All participants in World War I made use of the Racing Homer's ability to carry messages, with the British alone employing approximately 9,500 birds.

নর্দান বিশপ / অরেঞ্জ বিশপ...
নর্দান বিশপ এর আদি নিবাস আফ্রিকায়। এরা উইভার ধরণের পাখি, অর্থাৎ বাসা বানানোর ব্যাপারে এরা অত্যান্ত দক্ষ। আমাদের দেশের বাবুই পাখিও কিন্তু উইভার পরিবারের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। প্রকৃতিতে বিশপ বেশ কয়েক ধরণের হয়ে থাকে, যেমন রেড বিশপ, ইয়েলো বিশপ, অরেঞ্জ বিশপ বা নর্দান বিশপ। আজকে জানবো নর্দান বিশপের ব্যাপারে। এদের ব্রিডিং পুরুষরা কুচকুচে কালো শরীরের উপর উজ্জ্বল কমলা অথবা লাল রং এর হয়। মেয়েরা এবং অপ্রাপ্ত বয়স্ক ছেলেরা আমাদের দেশের চড়ুই পাখির মতো হয় দেখতে। ব্রিডিং সিজন শেষ হলে এদের রং এর উজ্জ্বলতা অনেক কমে যায়। ছবির পাখিটাকে মেয়ে ভেবে কাঁটাবন থেকে জোড়া হিসেবে এনেছিলাম, কিন্তু চোখের সামনেই ১ মাসে সে পূর্ণ পুরুষে রূপান্তরিত হোলো, প্রতিদিন সকালে রং পরিবর্তন হচ্ছে, ২-৩ দিন পরে হটাৎ দেখলে মনে হবে নতুন কোনো পাখিকে দেখছি, খুবই মজার অভিজ্ঞতা, আলহামদুলিল্লাহ। হয়তো খোলামেলা জায়গা পেয়ে তার ব্রিডিং এর সময় কিছুটা দ্রুত এগিয়ে এসেছে। ১৭৮৯ সালে জার্মান উদ্ভিদ বিজ্ঞানী পল ইসার্ট সর্বপ্রথম এই পাখির বর্ণনা দেন। এরা প্রায় ৪ ইঞ্চির মতো লম্বা হয়, ওজনে ২০-২৫ গ্রাম। এরা পলিগেমাস অর্থাৎ একটি পুরুষ পাখি একাধিক (৬ জন পর্যন্ত মেয়ে পাখি) মেয়ে পাখির সাথে জোড়া বাধে। এদের ডাক খুব একটা শ্রুতিমধুর না, ছেলেদের প্রধানত ২ টি যোগ্যতার প্রয়োজন। উজ্জ্বল রঙ থাকতে হবে এবং সুন্দর ও নিরাপদ বাসা বানাতে পটু হতে হবে। আল্লাহ সুবহানাওয়াতালার সৃষ্টির কি শুনিপুন হিসাব, এত ছোটো একটা পাখি তারপরেও মা তার সন্তানের সর্বোচ্চ নিরাপদ ভবিষ্যত নিশ্চিত হয়েই জোড়া বাধে। নিরাপদ বাসার কারণে সাপ বা অন্য বড় পাখি ওদের ডিম বাচ্চা নষ্ট করতে পারবে না, আর সুন্দর পুরুষ পাখির বাচ্চাও সুন্দর হবে ফলে ভবিষ্যতে এই বাচ্চারাও সহজেই সঙ্গী পেয়ে যাবে। ডিমে তা দেয়া থেকে শুরু করে খাওয়ানো পর্যন্ত সকল কাজ মেয়েটা একাই করে, ছেলেরা এসব ব্যাপারে কোনোই দায়িত্ব নেয় না। এরা একবারে ২-৩ টা ডিম পারে, ডিম ফুটে বাচ্চা বের হতে ২ সপ্তাহের মতো সময় লাগে। নন ব্রিডিং সিজনে এরা অন্য উইভার দের সাথে একসাথে থাকে। শস্যদানা এবং বিভিন্ন ধরণের পোকামাকড় এদের প্রিয় খাবার। আপনার এভিয়ারি তে যদি একজোড়া বিশপ থাকে নিঃসন্দেহে তার চঞ্চলতা, নজরকাড়া উজ্জ্বল রং এবং বাসা বানানোর দক্ষতা মুহূর্তেই সবার নজর কেড়ে নিবে।

প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ :
আপনি যদি এমন কোনো পাখি পালতে চান যার শারীরিক এবং আচরনগত বৈশিষ্ট অন্য পাখিদের চেয়ে অনেক বেশী আলাদা তাহলে প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ আপনার জন্য খুবই আকর্ষণীয় একটি পাখি হতে পারে। এমনিতে প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ অন্য সব পাখিদের মতোই দেখতে হয়, কিছুটা আমাদের দেশের চড়ুই পাখির মতো দৈর্ঘ্য প্রায় ৫ ইঞ্চির মতো, ওজনে ২০-২১ গ্রাম, এদের পরিবর্তনের শুরু হয় যখন ব্রিডিং এর সময় আসে, পুরুষ পাখি তার রং পরিবর্তন করতে শুরু করে এবং আস্তে আস্তে কালো রং ধারণ করে, বুকটা হয় হলুদ আর সাদার মিশ্রণ। লেজ বড় হতে শুরু করে এবং ধীরে ধীরে তা শরীরের দৈর্ঘ্য ছাড়িয়ে আরো বাড়তে থাকে, বাড়তে বাড়তে ১ ফুটের চেয়েও বড় হতে পারে পুরুষের লেজ, কখনো কখনো শরীরের দৈর্ঘ্যর ৩ গুনের চেয়েও বেশী লম্বা লেজ হয়। মেয়ে পাখি ব্রিডিং সিজনের আগে এবং পরে একই রকম থাকে। ছবিতে যেই জোড়া টা দেখতে পাচ্ছেন সেখানে ছেলেটা তার ব্রিডিং সিজন এ আছে। ওর লেজ একফুটের চেয়ে কিছুটা বড়। এদের আদি নিবাস সাব সাহারান আফ্রিকাতে। ছেলেরা পলিগামি অর্থাৎ একটি ছেলের সাথে ৪-১০ টি পর্যন্ত মেয়ে থাকে, এরা ব্রুড প্যারাসাইট প্রজাতির পাখি, অর্থাৎ নিজেরা বাসা তৈরী করে না, অন্যের বাসায় ডিম পারে, ডিম পাড়ার জন্য এদের পছন্দ ওয়াক্সবিল অথবা পিটিলিয়া প্রজাতির পাখি। কোকিলের সাথে এদের স্বভাবগত মিল আছে কিন্তু কোকিল যেমন কাকের কিছু ডিম ফেলে দিয়ে কাকের ঘরে ডিম পারে এদের ক্ষেত্রে ব্যাপারটা ঠিক সেরকম না। এরা ওয়াক্সবিল বা পিটিলিয়া এর কোনো ডিম ফেলে না, শুধু নিজের ডিম ওদের বাসায় পেরে দিয়ে যায়। বাকি দায়িত্ব ওয়াক্সবিল বা পিটিলিয়াকেই নিতে হয়। ডিম ফুটে বাচ্চা বের হবার পরে এরা পিটিলিয়া বা ওয়াক্সবিল যার ঘরে জন্মেছে তার বাচ্চার ডাক কে নকল করে, ফলে মা পাখি সবাইকেই নিজের বাচ্চা মনে করে খাবার খাওয়ায়, প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ এর বাচ্চা অন্য পাখির বাচ্চা দের কে বাসা থেকে ফেলে দেয় না এটাও কোকিলের সাথে এদের আরেকটা বড় পার্থক্য। এরা একই মায়ের সন্তানের মতো অন্যদের সাথেই বড় হয়ে ওঠে। ছেলে বাচ্চারা বড় হয়ে মেটিং কল এ পিটালিয়া অথবা ওয়াক্সবিলের ডাক কেই নকল করে মেটিং কল দেয়। যদি মেয়ে এবং ছেলে পারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ একই প্রজাতির পাখির ঘরে বড় হয় তাহলে এরা একে ওপরের মেটিং কল এ সাড়া দেয়, আর যদি ছেলে এবং মেয়ে দুইটি আলাদা ধরণের পাখির ঘরে বড় হয় তাহলে ছেলেটার মেটিং কল এ মেয়েটা সাধারণত সাড়া দেয় না। প্রকৃতিতে ভালো সংখ্যায় থাকলেও এভিয়ারিতে এই পাখির বাচ্চা করানো প্রায় অসম্ভব। শস্যদানাই এদের প্রধান খাদ্য, এভিয়ারি তে একাধিক ছেলে থাকলে ব্রিডিং সিজনে এরা বেশ মারামারি করে, ননব্রিডিং সিজনে এরা খুবই শান্ত পাখি। এরা সাইজে ছোটো হলেও এদের সাথে সহজে কেউ লাগতে যায় না, আমার এভিয়ারির সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল এর বাসার সামনে দিয়ে কেউ হেটে যেতে পারে না কিন্তু প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহকে এরাও ঘাটায় না। জাভা এবং বিশপ ফিঞ্চের মতো এগ্রিসিভ পাখিকেও কখনো প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ কে ঘাটাতে দেখিনি, যদিও আমি কখনোই আমার এভিয়ারিতে প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহকে রাগতে দেখিনি, কিন্তু নির্দ্বিধায় বলা যায় অন্য সব পাখি এদের সমীহ করে চলে। আপনি একপলক প্যারাডাইজ হোয়দাহ এর দিকে তাকালেই বুঝবেন সে সবার থেকে আলাদা এবং নিশ্চিত ভাবেই পাখিকুলের সমীহ পাবার যোগ্য।

গৌল্ডিয়ান ফিঞ্চ :
ফিঞ্চ পরিবারের সবচেয়ে সুন্দর পাখিদের মধ্যে গৌল্ডিয়ান ফিঞ্চ নিঃসন্দেহে অন্যতম। এদের আদি নিবাস অস্ট্রেলিয়া। ১৮৪১ সালে পাখি বিশারদ জন গৌল্ড তার মৃত স্ত্রীর লেডি এলিজাবেথ গৌল্ড এর নামে এই পাখির নাম রাখেন লেডি গৌল্ডিয়ান ফিঞ্চ। এই পাখি ১২-১৪ সেন্টিমিটার পর্যন্ত লম্বা হয়, ওজনে মাত্র ১০-১২ গ্রাম। এরা প্রকৃতিতে ৫ বছর পর্যন্ত এবং ক্যাপটিভিটিতে ৯-১০ বছর পর্যন্ত বাঁচে। বর্তমানে গৌল্ডিয়ান ফিঞ্চ প্রাকৃতিক ভাবে বিপদাপন্ন প্রাণী তালিকায় থাকলেও ক্যাপটিভিটিতে এদের সংখ্যা এখন অনেক, বাংলাদেশে অভিজ্ঞ ব্রিডারদের কল্যানে গৌল্ডিয়ান ফিঞ্চ এর বিভিন্ন মিউটেশন এখন দেশেই পাওয়া যাচ্ছে।
প্রকৃতিতে এদের মূলত ৩ ধরণের মিউটেশন পাওয়া যায়, আর অভিজ্ঞ ব্রিডারদের হাতে এদের আরো অনেক ধরণের মিউটেশন তৈরী হয়েছে। সাধারণত মাথা এবং শরীরের রং এর উপরে ভিত্তি করে এদের মিউটেশন এর নামকরণ করা হয়ে থাকে। যেমন ছবির গৌল্ডিয়ানটির মিউটেশন এর নাম হবে অরেঞ্জ হেড, হোয়াইট ব্রেস্ট, ইয়েলো বডি গৌল্ডিয়ান। প্রকৃতিতে যে ৩ ধরণের মিউটেশন পাওয়া যায় তার নাম শুধু মাথার রং এর উপর ভিত্তি করেই হয়, যেমন ব্ল্যাক হেড, রেড হেড এবং অরেঞ্জ হেড। এর মধ্যে বেশিরভাগ ব্ল্যাক হেড, খুব অল্প সংখ্যক রেড হেড এবং বিরল অরেঞ্জ/ইয়েলো হেড। প্রাণীকুলের স্বাভাবিক নিয়মে এদেরও ছেলে পাখি মেয়েদের তুলনায় বেশী উজ্জ্বল বর্ণের হয়।
এই ছোটো পাখি গুলো বেশ সেনসিটিভ এবং সহজেই এরা স্ট্রেসড হয়ে যায়, তাই এদের বিশেষ যত্নের প্রয়োজন হয়। একারণেই প্রথম ফিঞ্চ পালার সময়ে গৌল্ডিয়ান দিয়ে শুরু করা উচিৎ নয়।
এরা একসাথে ৩-৬ টি ডিম পেরে থাকে। গৌল্ডিয়ান ডিম পাড়ার পরে হটাৎ করেই ডিমে তা দেয়া বন্ধ করে দিতে পারে অথবা বাচ্চাকে খাবার খাওয়ানো বন্ধ করে দিতে পারে, বিশেষ করে প্রথম ডিম বাচ্চা করার সময় এটা বেশী হয়। ব্রিডাররা সাধারণত ফস্টার পদ্ধতিতে সোসাইটি এবং বেঙ্গলি ফিঞ্চ এর সাহায্যে গৌল্ডিয়ান এর বাচ্চা ফুটানো এবং লালন পালনের কাজটি করিয়ে থাকে। সাধারণত এক বছর বয়সে এরা ডিম বাচ্চা করার জন্য উপযোগী হয় এবং ব্রিডিং বক্সেই এরা ভালো ভাবে ডিম বাচ্চা করে।
এভিয়ারি তে এরা সোসাইটি ফিঞ্চ এবং জেব্রা ফিঞ্চের সাথে ভালো ভাবে মিলেমিশে থাকতে পারে, কিন্তু হোয়াইদা বা ওয়েবার এর সাথে এদের খাঁচায় রাখা বিপদজনক। এরা প্রধানত সশ্যদানা খেয়ে থাকে এবং এয়ার স্যাক মাইট এদের প্রধান রোগ। বেশ সেনসিটিভ হলেও সৌন্দর্যের দিক থেকে এই পাখির এভিয়ারিতে উড়ে বেড়ানোর সত্যিই মনোমুগ্ধকর।

সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ার টেইল ফিঞ্চ : সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল একটি অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ফিঞ্চ প্রজাতির পাখি। প্রকৃতিতে যেই ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল পাওয়া যায় তা দেখতে এদের থেকে বেশ আলাদা। খুবই দক্ষ ব্রিডার দের অক্লান্ত প্রচেষ্টায় প্রকৃতির ফায়ারটেইল থেকে এই সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল এর জন্ম। এদের শরীর সাদা এবং সিলভার এর সংমিশ্রনে এবং লেজের কিছুটা অংশ লাল হয় যার কারণে এই নামকরণ। এরা দেখতে খুবই সুন্দর তাই যারা পাখি পালেন তাদের কাছে এর প্রচুর চাহিদা থাকলেও সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল বেশ কম পাওয়া যায়। এরা প্রধানত শস্যদানা খেয়ে থাকে। একটি সিলভার ডায়মন্ড ফায়ারটেইল লম্বায় ৪-৫ ইঞ্চি এবং ওজনে ১৫-২০ গ্রাম হয়। ছেলে এবং মেয়ে দেখতে প্রায় একই রকম হয় তাই আলাদা ভাবে ছেলে মেয়ে চেনা মুশকিল। ব্রিডিং সিজনে ছেলেদের নাচ এবং সুরেলা ডাক দেখে ছেলে মেয়ে সহজেই চেনা যায়। ৮-১২ মাস বয়সে এরা ব্র
