Update on Poppy’s Ruffwear float coat. She absolutely loves this jacket. Poppy is an excellent swimmer but the float coat gives her a boost of confidence if the water is at all choppy. She is not bothered by wearing the jacket at all as it fits so well and stays put in and out of the water. A really great purchase!

Hanging out with her new Ruffwear swamp cooler cooling jacket. We have learned that Poppy does not tolerate the heat well and Portland has been hot and humid (for us). Poor little girl got pretty overheated on Sunday while playing ball with her cousins. She was ok after a towel down with a cold towel and she ate some ice cubes but it was a wake up call for me to be more careful about not letting her play too hard in the heat. Her cooling jacket will be a good start to help her be comfortable on walks and while playing in the heat. You simply get the jacket wet, wring it out and put it on the dog. It slips over their head and attaches with elastic straps. A comfy fit and it has a slot over the shoulder for a leash when the dogs are wearing a harness. So far Poppy gives her cooling jacket a high five ✋🐺🌟

Modeling her new teal made by @2 Hounds Design that we purchased from the Pet Loft on Macadam in SW Portland.
The Freedom No Pull Harness has a lot of features that Poppy loves but the best thing about this harness is that it does not slip or move around at all as your dog moves. Once you have the harness fitted to your dog correctly the fasteners do not loosen and the harness stays put. You can attach the leash to the martingale type fastener on the back, the front clip or you can purchase a leash that allows you to attach to both the loops if your dog tends to pull a lot. We attach to the front clip for training walks and the back clip when we are just out for a fun sniff and play type walk. Another great feature about his harness is the velvet straps that go behind the dogs legs. They are soft to the dog and do not chaff their tender elbow area. These harnesses come in a bunch of fun colors so you are sure to find just the right one to match your dog’s personality so she looks super stylish. Poppy has one in raspberry and teal. This life vest fits well and is adjustable with a neck strap and two straps that go around the rib cage. There are Velcro fasteners to secure the loose strap fabric so that they won’t catch on anything in the water. The vest has reflective strips for easy spotting at night. The vest has a streamlined fit and is very comfortable for Poppy to walk around in. Poppy is an excellent swimmer but the river can be dangerous and ducks/birds taunt her to swim out past our comfort level so we decided this was the best way to keep our girl safe! The Worker is a level 3 Nina Ottosson Puzzles dog puzzle and it is definitely more challenging for Poppy. We are working on it together and she will figure it out soon I think. Poppy was getting a bit frustrated and could not figure out how to turn the dial so I am showing her how it works. Also keeping some of the treats easier to find and she slides the toggle like the level 2 Hide and Slide. These toys are great for keeping puppy brains thinking. ✋🐺🌟

Some fun new interactive toys for Poppy to try. We got her a level 2 and a level 3 Nina Ottosson Puzzles Dog Puzzle toy. Poppy quickly figured out the level 2 Hide and Slide Puzzle but will take a bit more time to figure out the way the level 3 Dog Worker Puzzle completely works. These are great puzzles to exercise your dogs mind and cut down on boredom and unwanted behaviors. They are made of very durable plastic material and have moveable parts that do not fall out of the toy. Poppy uses her nose or foot to move the pieces around and uncover her treats or some kibble. So far she is loving these interactive toys. I have been searching for things to help keep her brain active on positive rather than seeking out things to chew that are not intended for her. These puzzles are proving to be a good toy to keep Poppy busy and tire her out too.

Poppy is modeling her new Thundershirt. We are hopeful it will give her some comfort from her anxiety in the car. Poor Poppy has been terrified of the car since we adopted her in June of last year. She used to get a terribly upset stomach but we seem to be past that. But she does not like to get in the car and she trembles and drools the whole ride. We have tried everything from positive reinforcement training around and in the car to anti nausea drugs and sedation to herbal supplements. Nothing has worked to ease her anxiety in the car. The only thing that sort of helps is one of us riding in the back seat with her holding her close to us. The concept of the Thundershirt is that it applies constant gentle pressure to the dogs torso and acts as a soothing and calming hug. We are so hopeful that Poppy will like it! Good news is that once we reach our destination Poppy bounces out of the car and is ready for our adventure. ✋🐺🌟

Poppy loves her Zogoflex Wox so much that she fell asleep with it in her mouth last night. This fun interactive toy is for serious chewers but Poppy was still able to chew it in half. But that doesn’t stop her from playing with it. She loves to toss it around and gnaw on it. The soft yet pretty durable material it is made out of feels good to her mouth. Poppy gives the Wox a high five of approval. 🖐🐺🌟

Poppy received the rest of her birthday present. A pretty new collar from OLIVE + ATLAS
A beautiful girl like Poppy can never have too many stylish collars. Or can she? This distressed brown leather collar is soft yet durable and comes with classy, sturdy hardware and an Olive + Atlas charm. We added a personalized name tag for Poppy’s collar. Olive + Atlas is a PNW company and they are wonderful and professional to work with. Their products are hand made with a personalized touch. The packaging the collar arrived in is tasteful and a hand written note to Poppy was inside. It’s obvious that takes a lot of pride in their product and loves their human and animal clients. I love the way this collar feels and the beautiful tone of the leather picks up Poppy’s brown highlights. Poppy gives a high five ✋🐺🌟

Poppy turned 1 year old yesterday and had a great day! Treats from Pup Pawtisserie, a play date with her best pal Adi and presents! Adi gave her a Bumi toy made by West Paw. As you can see Poppy loves it!! She even snuck it on to the bed at some point last night. Silly girl.

Today’s review is more a fun share of Poppy’s adventures today. She met a horse! Poppy was a bit nervous at the sight of this huge creature but then she decided this gentle giant could be trusted. At first Poppy stayed behind me where she felt safe. In a short amount of time she was a brave girl and chose to venture closer and give Abby a sniff on the nose. The amazing farm smells and some chickens running around added to the great day. This review is a bit of a mixed bag: grimace face at first but in the end Poppy gives Abby the horse a high five of approval! ✋🐺🌟

Wet day in Portland called for a waterproof rain coat for Poppy! We tried many styles and had a hard time finding one that was a good fit for her. Poppy appears to be right in between a small and medium. We finally found this well fitting, quality made and waterproof Tanner and Dash NYC jacket at Hip Hound Java Hound in NW Portland. These jackets are sized in 2 inch increments so it was easier to find a coat that fit. It is fleece lined for a little extra warmth and we tested it in the pouring rain today. Poppy was completely dry under the jacket after a 45 minute walk. The 2 inch zipper section on the back for a harness is useful and the jacket stayed in place perfectly as Poppy moved around on our walk. Velcro closures for easy on and off. Poppy is wearing her harness under the jacket and everything fit comfortably for her. This jacket gets a Poppy approved high five! ✋🐺🌟

World Orbee Globe Ball gets a Poppy approved ✋🐺🌟

You can stuff treats in the Orbee or use as a ball to play fetch. Poppy loves jumping up in the air to catch her Orbee mid air. Very durable and useful toy/treat dispenser. This toy was a gift to our past pup and we have had it now for 5 years or so and it’s like new with no wear and tear.

This stylish jacket is fleece lined wool and was handmade by Inca Artisans in South America. The jacket has Velcro for easy on/off, it’s stays in place perfectly as Poppy moves around and her harness can be attached through a reinforced section on the back of the jacket. It also fits well enough that you could use a front clip harness. We purchased this jacket For Paws PDX
With temps dipping into the mid 20’s next week this adorable, warm jacket gets a Poppy approved high five!
