DAY 11 - Support our local friends!

Bansko is a great community to be a part of. There are many local people and businesses that back us and what we do, just because they're good people and they can ... They don't expect anything in return ❤️

We try to promote these people to our followers as much as we can, you'll have seen them on our page and in stories - just our little way of paying them back. If you're in Bansko please pay them a visit, and if you see people posting looking for a recommendation share these places and keep them going ... Times are hard, so let's make them a little easier for the good guys when we can! 🙏🏼

DAY 10 - Pennies for puppies!

Step 1 - grab a jar (empty works best 😉 we can even supply a clean one if you need it!)

Step 2 - fill it with loose coins you don't want and won't miss

Step 3 - give the filled jar to Bansko Street Dogs 🐾

We will put every penny to good use as always ❤️

I've never been so excited over a kitchen item in my life 🤣

The new fridge freezer is in place, and cooling down. Thanks so much for helping us to get it ❤️

Tomorrow it'll be filled with Kong's and lickimats, and all kinds of goodies for the dogs 🙏🏼

DAY 8 - Fundraise for us!

We always invite people to help us with our fundraising events, but it is awesome when people take the initiative and set up a fundraiser themselves ❤️

Whether you do a raffle or a sponsored dog walk, a birthday fundraiser or whatever else you can think of, we will back you all the way! If you need help publicising an event, with the planning, or a more hands on assistance we will do what we can to make it be a success - if you want to help us we want to help you 😘

Don't worry about having to make a big splash either - every little fundraiser eases our workload and keeps the donations coming in, and we truly appreciate every penny that comes our way 🙏🏼

DAY 7 - Buy a little gift!

People are always asking what we need for the dogs and honestly, it's never ending! It doesn't have to be anything extravagant - we go through basics like collars and disease test kits like you wouldn't believe 😳

If you're coming to visit we can always let you know things we're short of or low on at the time, but if you want to order something to be sent over we have an Amazon wishlist too - we keep it updated and make changes when we have different priorities, but anything you see on this list we will make good use of, whether it be for dogs at the yard, on the street or in foster homes ❤️

🐾 DOGS LOOKING FOR A HOME 🐾

The best thing you can do to help the dogs here if you aren't looking to adopt is to share, to help us reach more people who are looking! Some of these dogs have been with us for far too long, and we desperately want to get them moving on to the wonderful forever homes they deserve. All of these little (and not so little!) darlings are looking for homes, and with your help we still have a small chance to get them in loving homes before really winter sets in. They are all so very unique, they have great characters, and we love them more than you can imagine! We walk, play with and train these dogs, and can answer any question you have 🐾

We know that you see the cuties that have just been dumped and 'fall in love' the minute we post them, but we will never send a dog to anyone until we've had time to assess the dog in a shelter or home environment - to do otherwise would just be irresponsible. When these waiting dogs find homes we will have more spaces to assess the newly dumped dogs, and the dogs on the street, so when you adopt it helps more dogs than just the one you bring home! 🏡

These guys are all healthy and ready to join their forever families. They are fully vaccinated, tested disease free, microchipped and have passports, so are free to travel to their forever homes wherever they can be found. Except for the youngest they are all neutered already, and any that find homes before they can be neutered will be adopted with a date the operation is to take place by in the contract - no exception, no more puppies needed!! 🐾

DAY 6 - Adopt responsibly!

We will always advocate to adopt, don't shop. Whilst healthy dogs are being killed every day it's horrendous that even more puppies come into the world just to line the pockets of breeders. Even worse, they are systematically breeding the dogs into ill health because they pick and choose what they want them to look like - it's a sad, unnecessary, cruel thing 🤦🏻‍♀️

When people come to us to adopt we vet all applicants thoroughly, and encourage people to be prepared for what adopting a dog means. A dog is a commitment for many, many years and shouldn't be jumped at lightly. Be sure you assess how suitable a dog you like will fit in with your lifestyle - it's not always going to be a match, in which case you either wait until your circumstances change and you can provide what is needed, or you look at which dogs will actually fit you and your family ... To do otherwise is selfish and a recipe for disaster 😞

Contact your local shelter and find your biggest fan - we should all have one, and a dog will truly light up your life. Just make sure you're prepared for the huge change a dog brings to your life! ❤️

DAY 5 - Join teaming!

Please donate just €1 a month to us with Teaming. It's super easy to set up a standing payment, and even in the bad times most of us can spare 1€ without too much worry 🙏🏼

This small amount from everyone that joins to support us add up over the course of a year - and it’s one simple way lots of people can contribute a small amount every month. We don't have many people signed up, less than 20, but we raised over 200€ with it this year - enough to disease check and castrate two dogs. Imagine how many dogs we could help if we had 200 people signed up, or 2000 people! 🐾

DAY 4 - If you're in Bansko, give us some time! ❤️

Whatever your skills we have something for you to do ... Whether you have an hour to pet puppies, can help with vet trips, fixing fences, organising donations, or cleaning and yard care, we NEED YOU!!! 🐾

Don't ever think your help won't make much difference - the ONLY reason Bansko Street Dogs exists and helps as many dogs as it does is because of all the volunteers. We have never been able to afford any staff, so LITERALLY EVERYTHING WE DO IS DONE WITH TIME DONATED BY GOOD PEOPLE. Everything!!!

DAY 3 - Neuter your pets, and encourage others to do the same!

We neuter as many as we can, and every dog we home will be neutered, but there are still people hanging onto outdated thoughts against neutering. We know better now than we used to, and it's our responsibility as a dog companion to do better too! 🙏🏼

If yours aren't yet neutered please book them in asap, and if they are then please talk to any friends that need more info about why it's the right thing to do! If you're in Bansko and you know of a dog who needs neutering please get in touch (Plenty of info below if you want facts to put their way) 🐾

Spaying/neutering is good for your dog. Did you know that pets that are spayed or neutered live longer on average than pets that are not?

Spaying your female dog eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of mammary gland tumors. It is not true that your female dog will benefit from having one litter before she is spayed. In fact, spaying her before her first heat will reduce the risk of certain diseases.

Spaying your male dog eliminates the possibility of testicular and prostate cancers.

Spaying/neutering your dog can reduce or eliminate unwanted behaviors, making both you and your pet happier.
Your spayed female dog will no longer go through heat cycles.
Female dogs in heat may be more likely to show aggression to other females.

Neutering your male dog will reduce the breeding instinct and the behavior that goes along with it – spraying or marking territory with urine, aggressive behavior, and the drive to escape from your home and roam

Most dogs are able to reproduce by 6 months of age - be responsible and spay/neuter 🙏🏼

We kicked off the winter quiz season last night, with a full house at the wonderful Avalon! It was a great night full of delicious food, head scratching, and of course a few drinks 🍻

Congratulations to winners Home alone 4, snatching victory in the final round with a 4 point lead 🏆

Thanks to everybody who came along and joined us. Your entry fees and donations were added to the money given by the wonderful people at the Avalon, and we raised an incredible 416,50lev 🎉

Nobody voiced opposition to the new (and temporary!) quizmaster - but that's likely because it was me, no idea what was said when I left! If you're in Bansko this winter and you fancy writing or hosting a quiz night for us please get in touch. It's a voluntary role, as is everything we do, but we'll love you for helping! 🙏🏼

DAY 2 - share, share, share!!!

We often have people apologising because they don't have the resources to donate, the time to volunteer, and they wish they could do something - you can, you all absolutely can ❤️

Share our posts - whether we are looking for homes, help, donations it doesn't matter ... You may not be able to give what we need, but someone you know may. The more people that see what we do the more help we get, and that's ultimately what we always need 😁

Everyone spends time on social media these days, so when you're online and you see something we are doing please just hit the share button - it can do more good than you will ever know 🙏🏼

We often share information about rawhide as many people continue to buy it unknowingly. Especially with Christmas coming we often pick up themed treats that look cute, without really thinking about the content 🐾

When you're buying your doggie a treat please, please be aware of how awful rawhide is. Far too many people still give it to their dogs, when in reality it shouldn't even be made 🤮
