I was contacted often when I started Paws Up in San Pedro 3 years ago, regarding stray cats being poisoned 😡 I’ve witnessed them dying of this and it is incredibly devastating! It’s time we start taking action and not just talk about it! If you have to go stand in front of that town council until they listen to you, then do it! I’ve had to do this at the police station in the past when I’ve needed them to come to a situation where there was animal abuse. I might’ve sat on my cart and in front of the police station for a couple hours, but they eventually figured out I wasn’t gonna leave until they came with me, and that’s the only way to do it in Belize! This is incredibly lazy and cruel of the government to continue to do this! 😡😡😡

Angel and Carlene made it to Denver safely on Saturday night. It was so adorable that Angel’s new family made a sign for their arrival 😻
A big thanks to one of my and the island cats biggest advocates, Ms. Tiina Zakany. She was the first to rescue and bring to Colorado an 😻 Then she encouraged her friend Olga Westfall to adopt from as well as posting on local FB groups to find adopters. From there, friends of their friends and now three years later, there are 9 cats in Colorado! Thanks to Mary Huber for sending an airline carrier so Carlene Combs could transport her. It takes a village and sometimes that village spreads across international waters 😻

It’s a bittersweet day for me as Angel takes her flight to her new forever home. It has been years since I only fostered one kitten and we grew attached 🥰 She grew so much since the day she was hiding and hissing in the bathroom and in the end, sleeping next to me on the bed. But I know her very cat experienced family and fur siblings are going to be the best thing for her and she’s going to have a happy forever life! Thank you so much Carlene Combs for being her I know she is in great hands with you 😻

This doggo was brought in this afternoon after he was found lying unresponsive on the side of the road near the Caye Bank international Area(Amar’s Hardware). He is in a really bad state due to a heatstroke/intoxication. 📣 📣UPDATE: A flight angel has been found ❣️❣️ Thank you Carlene Combs

🎉 Angel has found a 🎉 Looking for a to take her from Belize to Denver. Her paperwork and flight fee will be taken care of. I just need someone who has a direct flight from BZE to DEN or long layover in DEN, from May 23rd to June 3rd. Someone leaving from San Pedro would be great, but I can fly her over to someone that is leaving from the mainland as well. The adopter (who is a trustworthy person-friend of a friend) will collect her upon arrival and has also offered to drive the flight angel (and family) home from the airport, so you don’t have to take a cab. Help her get to her new family in Colorado! I also need a decent size soft carrier. The one I had, I loaned out to someone to take a cat a few weeks ago and they’re not back on the island yet.

What a difference a week made! Look at her now 😻 Angel gained 1.2 pounds and her URI is gone. She’s spayed and vaccinated ( thank you Saga Humane Society) and ready for her She just needs a few days of patience and she will be your sweet DM now. So I’m still not technically fostering yet this year because I am in and out of town and don’t have a co-foster to help me take care of them when I’m away. But I’ve been seeing this little girl around our place and the new bar owners next-door want to keep her and take care of her.
So I took her home this evening to give her a flea bath. She had a ton of them! I always start with putting them in a small room like a bathroom if they’re feral which she kind of is. Then I sat in the bathroom with her for like an hour so she can decompress and trying to get her to eat out of hand, which she eventually did. After a couple hours, I felt comfortable giving her a bath. As soon as she hit the warm water, she just melted. Those fleas not biting her just was such a relief! 😻 tomorrow I will take her to Saga to get her spayed and ear tipped and then keep her in my home for a few days to get her weight back up and then release her back next-door so she can hang out at her favorite bar and restaurant where she gets all of the yummy food 😻

I found an adopter for Cleo and Robyn and I will be flying with them but I am only allowed to have one with my purchased seat. They require me to book a second full price ticket to add the other cat. I need someone else to allow me to add one cat to their already booked flight and I will pay the pet fee. I can get my seat next to yours so we have the cats together. 😻 Robyn aka Baby Girl is the cutest and sweetest 😻 She may be 10 months old but still plenty of growing to go. She makes me smile everyday. I love how she methodically stalks her toys and then she has a little wiggle in her butt and…pounces 😹 She is sweet and meows for you when she wants love and can’t find you, but she also likes some “me time” too. She is the perfect balance you are looking for in a kitten 💕 Spayed. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, I can get her to the mainland or U.S.

Q: Do you have any unusual habits or quirks that make you unique?

A: "Oh, where do I begin with my adorable quirks and unique habits? 😸 I'm a little bundle of eccentricities that make me one-of-a-kind! Let me share some of my endearing peculiarities with you:

1. I have a thing for plastic bags and packaging. The crinkly sound and texture make me so happy.

2. Watching the toilet flush is like a mesmerizing kitty TV show for me. The swirling water and the mysterious sounds never fail to fascinate.

3. When it comes to grooming, I have my own special technique. You might hear some slurpy noises as I meticulously clean my fur, making sure I'm the most dapper and fabulous feline around!

4. I have a favorite wand toy that accompanies me on my daily adventures. We're inseparable! You can often find me strutting around with it, ready to pounce and play at a moment's notice.

5. Before I engage in a thrilling chase, I like to wiggle my little behind. It's my way of preparing for an epic pounce and ensuring maximum playtime fun!

6. Oh, the art of stalking! I take my time, carefully observing and plotting my moves before I pounce on my unsuspecting toys. It's a few minutes of stealthy anticipation that make the playtime even more exciting!

7. Lastly I often sleep with head suspended in the air. I may not look it, but I am actually very comfortable. Just another oddity that makes my human giggle.

Anyone missing dogs in San Pedro down the road from Alaia? They appeared yesterday morning chasing people on bikes. Didn’t see them after that but now they are back roaming. Trying to figure out if they’re lost or if they were dumped. They don’t have a collar.

I am looking for an experienced cat foster in the Cayo area. Cleo went to her new home a week ago and is not adjusting well. She is very stressed and lashing out and now not eating. I am arranging to bring her back to San Pedro on Saturday, but if there is anyone in the Cayo area that has experience with scared/stressed cats and currently has a mellow household with no other animals I would love to get her fostered or adopted in the area instead of bringing her on another long journey back home. Cleo and Robyn have been adopted! Very bittersweet to have my last foster kits adopted. I will miss them all terribly 😢 But, I couldn’t be happier that their chose them! They will live in Benque with a family of 4, tons of space to run around, an enclosed porch to bird watch and get to go on walks in their cute new harnesses 😻

This poor birdie flew into my balcony window really hard, landing upside down 😢 Grabbed the quickest thing I could find, which was the kittens play box. I texted Aces Wildlife Rescue right away and Chris was here in less than 30 minutes!

Good News ! Tessa has been adopted to Colorado! I will post about her new family once she gets settled in.

A huge thank you to Tiina Zakany and Stephen Zakany for being her travel parents. They have a huge heart for our island cats 😻 Two years ago they brought home Scribbles, the kitten they rescued, and Tessa will be the 4th Paws Up kitty they are taking to their new . They also never come empty handed, always bringing donations.

Another success story on this trip is of Charlie, a friendly stray hanging by The Baker, who fed and kept an eye on her. A FB post was made in December looking for someone to take her in, but no one answered. In February, a family on vacation fell in love with her so Candy's family got her off the streets to foster her for them. A few weeks ago, that family contacted me to help ship her to the US, but I advised she would need to fly in cabin with a person. I suggested to post on FB to see if someone going back would bring her. Two weeks later she said someone volunteered. Of course that person was Tiina 😹 Tiina and Stephen will foster her until November when their daughter will drive her to Virginia!

If it wasn't so expensive to fly over there I would go and help. I have friends that live and visit there. Please help where you can!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Over a period of several years, the Roatan Rescue shelter in Politilly accumulated hundreds of animals. The exact number remains unknown, but there are approximately 500 animals trying to exist on a 1.5-acre plot of land, facing imminent eviction. When those running the shelter left the island, communicable diseases were spreading, and food aggression and other stressors were leading some of the animals to attack other animals, staff and volunteers. Compassion and empathy for the souls of the innocent led some to give their time in an attempt to rectify the situation, led others to give funds to aid the cause, and led many to give their hearts, prayers and hopes that an untenable situation could be turned around.

Through the selfless contributions of many, a number of animals are now sufficiently healthy and adjusted to be adopted and live happy lives with the love of a person or a family. While they ALL deserve this, the stark reality is that there are countervailing facts that prevent the continued operation of the shelter, which means that the animals are facing a crisis – especially those that are currently adoptable and want nothing more than to love and be loved.

Because the shelter founder left the Island, we have been advised that the abandoned animals are actually the property and responsibility of Santos Guardiola. Thus, efforts to improve the environment and health of the animals require governmental approval. Even if it were possible medically, financially, logistically, and legally to keep these animals housed at their current location, there is no way to do so without the inevitable further spread of disease and harm to animals who currently have a chance for a happy, healthy life.

We now know that the shelter will not be able to continue operating, and we believe the time-frame for its closure is approaching in weeks, not months.

Currently, we are pleading with the community to find homes for the innocent souls that, through observation, we believe can both survive and thrive. We know that many do not have transportation or the funds to pay for food and immediate medical treatment needs. Therefore, we are seeking the following:

Identify as many people as you know who are willing to care for a pet. Perhaps you know a local or have family on the mainland who would be willing to open their heart and their home.

We can transport to the mainland, Utila, or help with arrangements to transport to other countries.

We can deliver animals within Roatan to those without transportation, and will provide help as needed and as possible to ensure these animals get a healthy start in their new homes.

We need volunteers with transportation to help take pets and supplies to those without transportation.

We need churches and locals to spread the word that lives need to be saved, and that they can help; and
We need the ongoing support of this Community to help alleviate a dire situation as quickly as possible.

We have approximately 2 weeks to get as many of these animals to safety as possible. PLEASE HELP US HELP THOSE WHO CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES. If you have questions or are available to volunteer, please reach out immediately.

Anyone in San Pedro willing to foster these two adorable 3-week old girls that have ringworm? They were brought to me Friday afternoon after being found by Kris Timmons 🙏 I would normally foster them, but I still have six cats left to adopt out from the original hoarding rescue three months ago and I don’t wanna risk them catching it. Although unlikely, due to some current medical matters, I can’t risk catching it right now.

If you are not familiar with ringworm, it is a fungal infection like athletes foot, not an actual worm. If the kittens are handled properly, you should not catch it. If you do, you would just need to apply some topical cream on it for a couple weeks.

I can provide you this playpen setup, cream and lime spray medication for them. It is actually not that hard or scary to foster ringworm kittens. You just need to have no other animals in the home or a separate room to keep them in, keep a couple ringworm outfits (house lounge pants and long sleeve top) to wear when you handle and socialize them and wash your hands often.

They have been cleaned up since this photo and been taken to the vet. They are on a little bit of antibiotics for a light kitty cold, but other than that they are cute, sweet and in pretty good health for being strays without a mom. I can provide the dry and wet food as well.

This is a great opportunity for someone who was always wanting to adopt kittens but wanted them when they were tinny tiny. You can foster to adopt. If you’re not looking to adopt then they would be ready for adoption in about six weeks. Ringworm would clear up in about 3 weeks.

Very important. Unfortunately the people that need to see this are the people that don’t follow me so please look out for your neighborhood pets, especially the ones that are chained up and help them get shade and water if they need it. 🙏

Last week we were sent a video of a pitbull dog that was struggling with heat stroke. Neighbours were attempting to assist.

It sadly died.

Please please please ensure your animals are sheltered with shade and have consistent access to water for the next few days.

If you suspect heat stroke don’t play around. Get your animal in front of a fan or in to air conditioning if possible and pour cool (not cold) water on them. Ensure the water reaches the skin and doesn’t just run off the fur. Do not cover them with wet towels. Veterinary intervention is essential to their survival.

🐾 Meet Angel, the bar kitty from next door. 😇 Read her journey below and adopt her! She is 3 months old and has been living outside without a momma for a while hiding from the dogs and racoons. The bar would feed her if they saw her but if they left food for her, she’d let the dominating stray street crew eat it. So, she was very skinny ☹️ The new owners were willing to keep her inside the bar shack at night and let her run around during the day. So, I took her last week, gave her a flea bath and Saga gave me some meds to treat her URI. She is now healthy, gained weight and get spayed and vaccinated today. She really blossomed inside so I decided to keep her and get her adopted out. Even though she was scared and tried to use her adorable little hiss to get me away, she let me give her a bath on night one. I kept her in the bathroom so she could decompress and by the second night she let me pet her, even on my lap. The next day I let her in the kitten room and by that night she slowly started to rub her face on my legs, play with toys and give her belly rubs on my lap while she purred away. I happen to be flying to Belize City Friday morning so if you live on the mainland, it would be perfect timing if you are ready to welcome this beautiful calico into your home. 🏡 She will be shy at first, but with a little patience and yummy treats, she’ll let you pet her in no time and even spend some time on your lap. Here is a new video of Robyn during that last couple weeks she has been back in foster care. I sat down with her 1 on 1 to ask her some questions so you can get to know her. Here is a bit of what we discussed. I will post in a 5 part series! Q: What’s your favorite toy, and why? A: Definitely my trusty wand toy! 🪄✨ Because I can chase, pounce, and unleash my inner acrobat with every leap and twist. It’s a purr-fect way to engage my hunting instincts and keep me entertained for a long time. I have impressive paw-eye coordination skills! When I’m done playing, I grab it in my teeth and walk around with it until I find the purrfect box to leave it in for next time. Q: Are you a morning kitten or a night owl? A: I’m like a tiny clockwork kitty, programmed to follow my foster mom’s schedule. As the night falls, I like to tuck myself in for a cozy snooze by 10 or 11 PM, ensuring that I’m well-rested for the adventures that await me. 😺💤 And as soon as the sun peeks over the horizon, I’m up and ready to embrace the day at the bright and early hour of 6 AM. There’s just something about those peaceful morning moments when the world is waking up, and I get to greet it with a purr and a playful bounce in my step. These two adorable foster kittens are looking for their forever home! 🏡❤️Cleo, the black and white beauty, sports a silky fluffy coat with unique patterns, big lips and a batman mask, while Robyn is a lovely tabby with contrasting paw patterns and stripped tail. They are 8 and 9 months old and ready to bring joy to your life. They came from a hoarding rescue here in San Pedro, where they endured challenging circumstances. Cleo, in particular, spent a significant amount of time alone in a small crate with little to no food so she resorted to eating her own feces which took months to improve her stomach issues. 😿 With time and understanding, Cleo blossoms into a snuggle bug, who loves to play fetch and will tell you when she wants to eat and play. Robyn is a mellow sweetheart who enjoys affection and has a particular fondness for her beloved wand toy. They both love to spend time on the patio with supervision. They would thrive in a home where they can be together and receive all the love and attention they deserve. Cleo is looking for a patient and understanding human who will take the time to build her trust, while Robyn will be your semi-independent yet affectionate companion right away. Together they are a perfect pair. They like to play with each other a couple times a day, but not so energetic that they cause chaos 🤪 They are spayed, vaccinated, litter trained and ready to embark on their new adventure with their forever family. I put off handling some health matters back in the Spring to bring in a dozen kittens from the shelter/hoarding rescue. Robyn is approaching the 7 month mark but don’t let that age stop you from adopting. She is still young, loads of fun and much more growing to do! This is actually the perfect age to adopt as they less rambunctious and don’t need constant attention. Robyn came from the hoarding rescue with her brother Batman when they were one month old. They were not fed, socialized and lived in a small crate. She has blossomed since she got here 😻 She is quiet, well behaved, litter trained and true to the tabby name with her toy hunting skills. Her latest favorite thing is hunting the wand toy and then walking around the house with it to find a box to hide and enjoy her prey 😹 She likes to cuddle on your lap when you’re sitting and sleep at the foot of the bed. She’s affectionate but also independent. She absolutely loves going outside and wears a collar or harness well. If she sounds like a good fit for you please DM me. Tessa Adoption Update 😻 — Words from her #fureverfamily Adopting Tessa from Belize was amazing. We weren’t sure how it would all work, but it did and very quickly!Tessa has joined our family in Erie, Colorado which includes our two small dogs Astro and Boot, and our previously rescued cat Gus. After a couple days of rest, Tessa started exploring her new home and immediately became part of the family. She calls out in her little meows when she hears her name and comes running to play and cuddle. Tessa walks around with the dogs, parkours around the house with Gus, and has found her own space to curl up and recharge. We love our sweet island cat. This makes my heart so happy ❣️ She is living her best life with many fur siblings to play with and groom, a family and hooman brother that absolutely adore her and all the space and walls to run and bounce off of. Happy Father’s Day! Do you #lovecats but the dad in your life say he’s not a cat person? Then this dynamic duo may change his mind! Tessa is almost 8 months old and Robin is half her age. Growing up, Robin watched everything her big sister did, but was always a little too #smol to keep up with her. About a month ago, she put to use the skills she learned watching her big sister and started playing fetch, running zoomies and wrestling with her. Since day one, Tessa has loved to talk, be held and rocked while getting belly rubs and playing fetch. There is not a day that goes by she doesn’t make me laugh. Her new thing is hiding her felt balls under things as if she is burying them and then digs them out. She’s upped her fetch game by holding the ball in her mouth so you’ll play tug of war with her.
