Overrated?! Not in my opinion! I will NEVER get tired of natural beauty! Yes, there were A lot, and I mean A LOT of people. Many who drove from Calgary and further @ midnight to watch the light show..but... I wasn't bothered, I was more in awe at how many people still find interest in nature and see the magic of this spectacular event.
There is a feeling when standing under something so spectacular and watching it dance and pulse all around you, that just makes everything be OK, for a moment.
Everyone that I met last night was amazing! There was cheering, uncontrollable laughing and moments where we all just stood in silence to watch and feel the force of nature.
So No, I do NOT care that so many more people are getting out to watch the Aurora..because if it helps everyone feel some relief and joy in life...then so be it.. ENJOY all the light in life! ๐Ÿซถ

Beautiful ๐Ÿ’ž

๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’”
"What if we asked the old horse in Heaven about the best moments of his life? Do you think he would talk about the ribbons he won or the points he earned? No. He would talk about the hours you spent grazing him and playing with his mane. He would talk about your kind hands. He would talk about the sound of your car when you pulled up to the barn, knowing you had a bag of carrots for him. He would talk about the laughter of the child who trotted for the first time on him. He would talk about how their little hands gave such gentle pets on his nose. He would talk about the times you came out in the middle of a snow storm to make sure he was okay. He would talk about the time you stayed up all night with him when he was sick and scared and confused. He would talk about the times you cried on his shoulder, and while he didnโ€™t know why, he understood. He would talk about galloping through green pastures and playing with his friends. He would talk about naps in the sun. And finally, he would talk about when he was hurting so much in this earthly existence, you set him free. He knows the decision literally broke your heart in half, but his pain was over and he will greet you again when it is time. Cherish the small moments with your horses. They are what he remembers.
Not my words but my heart..."

Is your horse 'Cinchy'?๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ IMPORTANT: Do not assume your horse is being 'ill mannered'.
Of course, there could be many reasons a horse reacts when when being cinched up.

SOME(not all) examples are:
๐Ÿ‘‰ulcers
๐Ÿ‘‰tension or sore in the girth region, ribs, and/or back
๐Ÿ‘‰claustrophobic (hasn't yet, or properly been worked through it)
๐Ÿ‘‰memory( associates the tightening of girth with pain)
๐Ÿ‘‰their skin is constantly being pinched or rubbed when saddled
๐Ÿ‘‰they get cinched tightly too quickly or aggressively

Let's talk about the one muscle that is directly impacted by the cinch/girth.

๐Ÿ’ซThe Ascending pectoral or (Caudal Deep Pectoral) is the longest pectoral muscle.

Origin: ventral surface of Sternum and costal cartilages of Ribs 4-9.

Inserts: Major and Minor tubercles of humerus
Function: retracts leg, stabilizes shoulder, and suspends trunk between forelegs.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰SIGNS OF PAIN/DISCOMFORT:
*reactive when being brushed
*reacts by pinning ears or moving away when being approached near girth
*resistance to move under saddle
*rearing, bucking, crow hopping when saddled
*avoiding jumps, hills, lateral work
This is only 1 of many areas that could cause a horse to become 'Cinchy/Girthy'.

Remember to also check their backs and saddle fit, as a poor fitting saddle can cause discomfort along the back when being cinched up.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰'When in doubt', have a vet check for ulcers first and foremost before getting bodywork done.

Regular bodywork can help find issues and prevent further problems from arising.

'No animal should have to serve or entertain until they are deemed unworthy'

To Gypsy~who continues to be a friend, and a teacher. To the horse who helped me down the path of becoming an Equine massage therapist. ~

It's nearly seven years since you've been in my care and eleven years since the day I met you.

Your back is getting a slight sway, and your weight is getting harder to keep.
Your energy and strength has decreased, and your soft, gentle eyes are now reflecting your years more than ever.

The vet bills and feed costs are becoming more frequent, and it's possible that you could lose sight in your right eye.

Our rides together will be shortened
and in time... will come to an end.
We can no longer go through mountain passes together or race down the trail.
There will be no more moonlight rides up to Allenby pass or week long backcountry trips together.

The inevitable is getting closer with every passing day, and so I reflect on our time together, and I look forward to our coming years we still have.

Even though you are showing your age, and lack the energy and strength you once had,
you are still worth your weight in gold...and more.

You deserve to be loved and cared for until you are ready to leave this earth.
Because in the end...
you did not choose this life...
You did not choose to be passed around, mistreated or misunderstood.
You did not choose to get a sore back, be lame or get eye problems.

However, you did choose to forgive.
You chose to be trustworthy, honest and gentle.
You are a friend- and a teacher.
You have thrown challenges my way, and pushed me out of my comfort zone.
You have shown me what patience, respect, trust and kindness can accomplish.

You were never dangerous.
You were never 'just a horse'.

So even though times have changed, and we can no longer do the things we used to, I promise to give you the love and care you deserve...until the end.

But until then... every day spent with you is a blessing ๐Ÿ™Œ

Treat every horse with respect and kindness.

Well said! ๐Ÿซถ EVERYONE should read this.

Well said! ๐Ÿซถ EVERYONE should read this.

NOT EVERYONE'S GOING TO LIKE YOU.

Even if you're the kind of person who always returns your grocery cart. Or makes a batch of homemade soup for a sick friend. Or always calls your aging grandmother back.

Because you're still going to be too much for some people. Or not enough for others. It's just the way it is.

You'll be too loud. Too emotional. Too sensitive. Too intense. Too extroverted. Too introverted. Too needy. Too this or that.

You can work your butt off to be well-liked. And it still won't be enough.

But just remember, you are enough. Just the way you are.

Let's stop trying so hard to be well-liked by everyone. And start living!

Live boldly walking along the sides of those who already embrace youโ€”the YOU you were born to be. There are people in your life right now who care about who you are on the inside and what you represent on the outside. They don't need you to be perfect. They don't care if you wear the same black yoga pants every day with the same cardigan sweater and top knot. They just want you, all of you, just the way you are today.

So, it's true. Not everyone's going to like you even when you try your hardest to do all of the things.

Just stop trying so hard.

Open your arms to those closest to you.

And be you.

Because you are enough.

Not too much or too little.

Enough.

Thanks to Sarah Kuz for this meaningful truth. I didnโ€™t write this but I wish I had. So many of us want certain things in our horses that we have yet to master, ourselvesโ€ฆ

A few of these sit uncomfortably with me, too.
