Here is something that you don't see everyday...
This deer was taken by Joseph Dobbyn in MB. I've cleaned quite few heads and have never come across one with a "fang" or maybe its considered a canine tooth? Whatever it is, its pretty unique and definitely cool. Thanks Joe for your repeated business and for sending people my way!

Not all trophies make it in the record books…. I had the opportunity to clean some heads for some young first time hunters. No they are not giants but that doesn’t matter. They are all respectable first deer and a lot bigger than my first buck. Some 20+ years later and I can remember what the weather was like the day I shot my 49” buck, the exact location it was harvested, my dad pushing a small bluff of willows to me while I stood on a ridge that used to be an old railway line and trying to hold my .243 steady while experiencing buck fever for the first time. It’s the memories of the hunt that are the trophies, the rack on the wall is just a reminder. At the end of the day, they all look the same in the freezer. Congratulations young men!

It’s that time of year again! With fall comes the opening up of big game hunting seasons. I was fortunate enough to work on a local hunter’s bull elk this past weekend. Thanks for the business Chase Boettcher and congrats on a great animal!

Something a little different came through the shop this past week. A repeat customer found a dead painted turtle and asked if I could clean it. It was the first time I’ve ever cleaned a turtle and I’m pretty happy with the way it came out.

The masked bandit of the animal world. Famous for getting into garbage cans across North America, the raccoon also has a near OCD obsession for cleaning its hands. Here’s one of a hand full of raccoon skulls cleaned this season.

Here’s an American badger skull. This low standing critter has immense digging and biting power. Although they are generally solitary animals, they have been known to team up with coyotes to work together and catch their next meal. And if you didn’t know, consider that your fun fact of the day.
