We have had many requests for more information. Plans are in flux but at this time the tentative plan is that there will be a memorial and farewell service here at the Alonsa Hall before Dr. Mentz is returned to his homeland in South Africa. Please watch for further details as they become available

07/11/2024

The clinic is closed however retail items are still for sale. Prescription orders previously ordered and approved by Dr. Mentz can still be picked up. Your understanding and patience with our staff is much appreciated during this difficult time.

07/11/2024

Due the suddenness of Dr. Mentz's passing we ask for your cooperation and understanding while we settle clinic affairs. We would like to ask everyone who has outstanding bills to please mail or come by with cheques or cash only as we no longer have access to our bank machine.

07/10/2024

It is with great sorrow and shock that we must announce that Dr. Ronald Mentz died suddenly at home yesterday evening. The clinic is closed until further notice. We will post more details as they become available.

šŸŸ  ā›ˆļø Strong Severe Thunderstorm Risk for Manitoba Later This Afternoon and Evening

šŸ“… Wednesday, June 12, 2024

Heads up, Southern Manitoba! Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into the evening which could bring the threat of large hail, damaging wind gusts and the potential for one or two tornadoes.

Based on the latest data, we believe the strongest storms will develop within a zone extending from the Saskatchewan border near Russell and to the southeast through Brandon, Portage La Prairie and Winkler.

Storm development has already started in parts of Saskatchewan near Humboldt and Yorkton. Further development is expected over the coming hours as more storms spark near the border and track into Manitoba.

The primary timeframe is during to mid to late afternoon hours. We should begin to see some weakening in the storm activity towards the evening hours as the daylight heating fueling storm development starts to diminish.

Further to the east and north, we have a slight risk of severe storms including Dauphin, Selkirk, Winnipeg and Steinbach. And a marginal risk for the Interlake region which is expected to mostly escape the strongest of the severe weather, but could still see an isolated storm.

The main risks with these storms are large hail up to the size of golf balls or even larger and 110 km/h wind gusts. One or two tornadoes are also possible mainly in the ā€˜strongā€™ (orange) risk zone.

ā–¶ļø We are planning to go live later today to track the expected storms. Please subscribe to our YouTube channel (instantweather.ca/live) or download our free app (instantweather.ca/app) to be notified when we go live.

Stay tuned for further updates.

In an era where many vets opt immediately for amputation or euthanasia, Dr. Mentz uses his skill and experience to try to save a limb. It's a team effort because saving a limb requires not just the skills of the vet but commitment and dedication of a pet owner willing to bring their pet in for bandage changes, give daily medication and be faithful about follow up. Sometimes it doesn't work out but mostly it does. This is one of our success stories. A foot run over by a car, literally flattened and broken in multiple places is almost back to normal including putting weight on it and walking normally. This lucky dog had a dedicated owner.

Puppies! What a wonderful way to end the week with healthy gorgeous pups in for their first shots and deworming and health check. And yes some of these lab pups are available for purchase from Winston Desjarlais (204-903-7079 call or text.)

05/10/2024

We are looking for someone who can come by on a regular basis to mow our lawns front and back around the clinic. Please contact the clinic if you are interested in the job.

Reminder - While we are happy to work with rescues, and we understand that emergencies don't come on payday, we are not a rescue. We do not provide free care to anyone. If you cannot afford to pay for your dog or cat spay and neuter the day of surgery, we expect you to make an arrangement IN ADVANCE with the rescue of your choice or you will have to pay us in full the day of any planned surgery.
