Brook Ridge Farm

Brook Ridge Farm Our farm family consists of not only of the sheep but horses, donkeys, goats, cats, rabbits and a dog.

The rambling 200 acre tract of land is home to our Border Leicester purebred sheep, along with the commercial crossbred ewes and select purebred rams we employ in our breeding program. Although we love to call them our own, the deer who frequent the fields are transient visitors. The resident ravens, red tailed hawk and curious fox add to the color and sound of our little hamlet. We breed, sell an

d show Border Leicester purebred stock and you will see some of the quality animals we have raised within the confines of this site. Should you be interested in starting your own flock, complimenting the breed you currently have or adding maternal power to your commercial line please feel free to contact us.

".....these are pictures of my planters where I used your wool pellets. Everything grows beautifully! I have herbs, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, lettuce, onions in these. Love the pellets" ❤️Linda M

A nice testimonial for the 100% wool pellets sold by Brook Ridge Farm. We have long known that wool is a good growing medium and the pellets are very easy to use. Love the photos! Linda, obviously, has a green thumb!

It definitely "takes a village"..... heading in to winter our donkey was slowing down, less vocal and stiff in her gait. Thanks to Dr. Kayte and her osteopathy sessions, Farrier Rick and Shearer Peter, Beauty is living her best life!

MacAusland's Woolen Mill has been a part of the Prince Edward Island landscape for 6 generations. It's nice to see a blanket from the mill featured on this tourism ad. Brook Ridge Farm will be back at the Antigonish Farmers' Market at the end of May with a new selection of MacAusland 100% woolen blankets and throws. If there is something you would like in the meantime please call 902 318-3989.

Our Story

Our farm family consists of not only of the sheep and lambs but horses, a donkey, cats, rabbits, two livestock guardian dogs, a farm dog and a house dog. If you visit be prepared to be greeted by the dogs and intrigued by our noisy “guardians of the barnyard”, guinea fowl. Although we love to call them our own, the deer who frequent the fields are transient visitors. The resident ravens, red tailed hawk and curious fox add to the color and sound of our little hamlet. Although we breed, sell and show Border Leicester’s, purebred stock animals for sale is limited and you should call early in the year to see what is available. Border Leicesters’ temperament and ease of handling are great for the beginning sheep farmer. They can also compliment existing flocks by adding maternal power to your commercial line.

Our breeding direction has moved to a more commercial base using Romanov ewes, with a Border Leicester ram (or reverse) to produce an F-1 cross. This cross typically produces 2 to 3 lambs which, due to their excellent maternal traits, each mother can successfully raise.

In December, 2017 Brook Ridge Farm became the first in Canada to be certified under the Canadian Verified Sheep Program. This certification is based on farm practices, not limited to; humane treatment, animal husbandry and bio-security standards. We pride ourselves on producing healthy lambs for breeding stock, market lambs and replacement ewes and rams.
