We are so pleased with the final product of our custom phantom. MJ builds our beautiful stocks and was absolutely up for the challenge when we asked if a custom phantom would be possible. Easy to adjust both angle and height, very functional and the stallions are loving is already!

Get your US or EU based stallion choices in - CFIA permits are required to get the semen (fresh or frozen) into Canada. In the busy season, it can take weeks to get these back. Even if you are considering using a stallion - let’s get him on our permit! Better to have and not use, than to be caught scrambling when a mare is cycling.

Frozen Friday brings us the para-dressage sensation LaBamba SE! While he focuses on climbing the national rankings with his sights set to the top, he will be available only by frozen semen this season and exclusively through IVF!

LaBamba SE is the sweetheart stallion of western Canada. Known first for his incredibly kind and laid-back disposition, and second for his exceptional workability, “King Richard” is a barn favorite wherever he goes.

In 2017, LaBamba SE spent time in California training at Arroyo Del Mar, competing in San Diego and placing top of his class at third level proudly representing Canadian-bred horses. 2023 saw him return to the show ring with para-dressage rider Tamara Taylor. In their first year showing together, and only months after meeting, this team successfully qualified for the the National Talent ID Squad for Equestrian Canada. This year, they will be competing in Grade V para dressage with sights on advancing up the national list. Although he loves to dance, the RPSI approved him as a jumper sire proving his versatility.

LaBamba SE is sired by Lacado, a Holsteiner stallion trained to grand prix dressage at the barn of Isabell Werth. Lacado is by Lacapo and out of a Corvado (Cor de la Bryere) mare, Volte. Lacado is a paternal half brother to Flemmingh, and a very strong dressage line. Lacado himself is licensed as a jumper sire and competed successfully as a young horse before changing directions to dressage.

LaBamba SE’s dam is Fronta De Line by Frontenac, an imported Westfalen stallion by Freuhlingstraum II and a Wedekind mare. Frontenac was owned and shown by Pat Oxtoby of Calgary and successfully competed through the FEIs. He was known to be expressive and modern, traits that passed consistently to his offspring.

His offspring have proven to be the same sort of character, personable, pleasing and talented. We've had the opportunity to cross with warmbloods as well as other breeds and we consistently see quality canter right away. A half-Arabian gelding is knocking on the door of preliminary-level eventing, another branded DSP mare is competing very successfully in third-level dressage in BC. Recently we met the first grandson to Ritchie, who has already made his mark as a yearling on the half Arabian sport horse circuit winning champion in his age group in hand, sport horse jumper type and the highest overall average of jumper and dressage type.

Canadian reservations are now open! Spaces per month are limited, so be sure to get your reservations in early. Emails will be answered beginning this evening, in the order they are received.

How do I reserve? Email us at [email protected] and we will email you back a reservation form. This form will ask your mares name, month you would like to reserve for, which stallion you are breeding to (if you are undecided yet this is fine!) and how she is being bred (fresh or frozen, carrying herself or embryo transfer). Each mare will require a small deposit to ensure the spot, with the remainder of the deposit due 30 days before her reservation month along with your stallion choice (if not already provided). Booking appointments during our regular offered times is encouraged, in the month before your reservation, to get any cultures and such done before you want to begin breeding. We can, of course, also do this during your reservation month. Whatever is best and most convenient for our clients. We will be taking reservations from April through September.

Canadian Reservations open tomorrow - what does this mean for our clients?

At IVF we will be taking capped cases, meaning we are taking reservations for our clients to ensure they get service in the month they want to begin breeding. Of course, there is always room for clients with reservation to try again in the event their mare does not conceive first try. By taking only the number of cases we can reasonably manage it ensures our clients get our full attention, each horse has an individualized plan and we maintain a high standard of care. We endeavour to keep our facility a happy, calm place for our mares and stallions. As an equine reproduction specialty clinic, we strive to focus on each horse and getting the best result from each cycle or collection. We look forward to working with you and your herd in 2024!

Our first stallion showcase Saturday is the phenomenal Hanoverian stallion Schroeder!

Grand Prix dressage successful, proven producer, 17HH and a top character. He checks all your dressage dream boxes! Available fresh through IVF for the first time in Canada.

Schroeder is a superior FEI Grand Prix dressage stallion. He is approved Hanoverian and passed his 70 day test in Germay in 2007. He has a super character(rated 9), powerful movement, he also jumped well. He has proven that in the show ring to the highest level of Dressage at FEI Grand Prix!

His offspring have his super character/trainability, modern type, uphill build, leggy, good topline, pretty head and powerful fancy gaits! The breeders and owners are raving on their great disposition and easy trainability, just like Schroeder himself. He is stamping these characters on his offspring. They have been winning at the in hand shows, dressage shows and inspections. Fantastic offspring for the amateur or professional who want to progress up the levels. The oldest are going into the FEI dressage ring and doing super . Schroeder’s sire Sandro Hit was Winner of 1999 6 year old Dressage World Championships and German Bundeschampionate. One of Sandro Hit’s most famous daughters was Poetin (Sandro Hit/Brentano II) who was winner in 2003 of the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses as well as the Bundeschampionat. She was sold in 2003 for 2,500,000 Euros. Sandro Hit has the highest breeding index in Germany of 153.

Schroeder’s Dam (from Hanoverian Dam line Pia), SPS Esmeralda was 2002 Champion mare at the Loius Wiegels Show and took 2nd place at the prestigious Ratje-Niebuhr show. From this dam line also comes the approved stallions Cyrano (Westf), Gourmet (Hann), Domfuerst (Rhld). The Grand Prix dressage stallion Warhol by Western Star is out of the mare Wegola by Wendelin, a daughter of Gotha, Esmeralda’s grandmother. He is placed up to Grand Prix Level and was licensed as a two-year-old, but was never active as a breeding stallion.

Our Canadian season is coming to a close - our last day of operations for 2023 will be September 19. If you have any further pregnancy checks, fetal sexing, semen freezing or embryo transfer needs please get in touch as soon as possible.

With that being said, we are excited to venture back to New Zealand for the southern hemisphere breeding season! Dr. Sathe will be taking client appointments beginning September 23, 2023.

Triplets from older, barren mares is seeming to be a theme for us this year! Thankfully this time we got to keep all three, as it was an embryo transfer flush.

These beauties were a very exciting find 🤩. Two were put into recips and one was frozen to be put in early next season. This mare had not had a foal since 2018.

A neat case we had earlier this season - what makes it even more interesting was this happened with a barren, older teens mare …. With only one functioning o***y! We had been called in to assist when the mare was experiencing early embryonic loss. With a little help she sure wanted to prove just how much of an over achiever she could be.
