A fantastic thread on this post with an open discussion between trainers on what an “aversive” actually is. You may be surprised.. It truly is the dog that decides what a ‘reward’ and what a ‘punishment’ is; when it comes to training.

There is no such thing as “force-free” and “positive reinforcement only” training. With a certain dog, saying the word ‘No!’ alone can be highly aversive.

That’s why I think we should just do away with labels and call ourselves simply, dog trainers.

At the end of the day, any good dog trainer’s goal is to clearly communicate with their client’s dog in the most rewarding way; and least uncomfortable way; possible.

You don’t get in to this business unless you love dogs and have a passion for creating excellent relationships between them, their person(s) and their environment.. Aka your goal is to see them THRIVE! 🥹🐶🐕🦮🐩🐕‍🦺
