Dog food…a major controversial topic in which there are many opinions however, with that, is a ton of miss information on social media and the internet.
I have attached a few links in the comments and on this post, of correct and accurate information which includes a link to the Royal Canin Research lab virtual tour. This is an interactive tour and allows a viewer to walk through the facility, but also see the animals that live there and how they complete their research to create breed specific brands. They show how they are continuously working to advance or create the foods you see at the vets office for specific diseases or to help treat illnesses.
This is also the reason for vets to go to conferences: to collaborate with the engineers, nutritionists and all other levels of the research lab with what they see working, what needs improvement, and new ideas. Royal Canin also shares advancements and new product information to the vets so they can each take away the knowledge gained from the conference.
Royal Canin is one of the three top research labs in the world for dog and cat food. They have two locations: France and USA.
Within this album I have created, you will find in the comments, a link to the WSAVA website in which very few dog food brands are compliant. WSAVA was created in order to help regulate and guide pet food manufacturers in producing higher standards for their food production. They are non biased and do not have a list of approved foods, but the companies that sell their brand, should be proud to note on their website if they are WSAVA compliant.
WSAVA explains that there is a misconception of just reading ingredients lists as this is not an accurate way to determine a quality dog food.
Anyone that has a dog or cat should spend time on these threads to learn more about proper feeding but also about the research that select companies do to create the best product for their pets health.
I have been feeding Royal Canin for well over 30 years now and will continue to do so. I’m not paid to promote their brand but I know what works with the volume of dogs and puppies I have owned and bred over the years. I have switched to raw and some other brands when they were the new rave but have always come back to this brand as my dogs do the best on this food. (Upon switching it was noticeable that I would have lame dogs, and major reproductive issues).
In the last 8 years I have not switched but did have to feed Eukanuba temporarily through COVID due to RC availability. Eukanuba is also owned by the Mars company, same as Royal Canin, in which they work together to research for ther brands. RC has also taken a few of their products and have bagged them in Eukanuba packaging. I still use their 28/30 brand for some of my high energy dogs as this food is exceptional for keeping weight on but is only available to breeders.
My dogs don’t have allergies, chronic issues that require frequent vet trips or lame dogs unless they do something they shouldn’t! 🤦♀️😂
Nutrition is so important, that I am considering as a breeder to remove any and all heath guarantee IF quality food is not feed by my puppy purchasers.
Homemade diets, unbalanced raw diets, boutique brand foods can all lead to lasting health issues for your puppies as they mature.
As breeders we all have our opinions on what works for the dogs we breed and own and I would never recommend a food that wasn’t what I felt, the best possible diet for my dog’s health.
