As the weather gets warmer, we often have pet parents ask us what is considered normal in terms of their pets panting. Anything under 30 breaths per minute is considered normal, anything above 35 may be a cause for concern and is worth contacting us at 519-752-3431.
Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning their diet consists of 70% meat protein. Egg whites contain an abundance of protein while the yolk is a great source of healthy fats, but eggs contain more benefits than just protein! They also contain amino acids that boost vision, digestion, heart function, immunity, pregnancy, and fetal development. Eggs also have large amounts of vitamins that provide energy and antioxidants as well as minerals that promote immune health! While it may be a good treat for your kitty, an egg is not a proper meal and lacks all the nutrients your feline friend needs to thrive. Remember, an active 10lb cat needs an average of 250 calories a day. If you have questions about your cat’s nutrition, give us a call at 519-752-3431.

Slowly and briefly begin using the toothbrush with the toothpaste in your dog’s mouth. Focus on brushing the outside of your pup’s teeth. Reward them with treats and praise. Progressively increase to longer brushing times as your dog gets comfortable with the process.

We're gearing up for another busy heartworm season! We are still offering our Idexx 4DX plus heartworm test that tests not only for heartworm but 5 tick borne diseases: Lyme disease, two type of Anaplasma and two types of Ehrlichia. All of these diseases can be quite debilitating and are best caught early. Some of these diseases are zoonotic which means that they can be transmitted from dog to human. With the rising number of ticks each year this is a great value added test for you. Testing starts April 15th and heartworm prevention should start no later than June 1st. In the meantime, though, flea and tick prevention can be used because ticks are active any time the temperature is above 3 degrees Celcius. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic we are still working with our clinic door locked in order to keep clients and staff as safe as possible. You will still need to call us from the parking lot when you get here. One of our technicians will come out to get your dog and bring him into the clinic for his blood test. If you have any questions about booking your dog's heartworm test, or which prevention product is best for your dog please don't hesitate to call us at 519-752-3431 or email us at [email protected]. This video shows what a live heartworm looks like under the microscope.
