In between your visits with us, there are a few ways you can monitor your pup's health. Refer to the diagram to learn what observations you can make based on your furry friend's appearance, and if they're exhibiting any signs of a poor well-being. If you notice any of these signs your dog is in poor health, contact us to make an appointment so we can properly diagnose your pup and get them back to feeling their best! Call us at 519-752-3431.

Unlike dogs, cats are digitigrade, meaning they walk on their toes! This contributes to their graceful and silent movements. It also allows them to move faster! Contact us today at 519-752-3431 for more cat care information and to schedule an exam for your kitty!

Have you ever noticed that your pup twitches while they’re sleeping? That’s because dogs dream as well with comparable sleep patterns to humans. Not just that but they also have a “sixth sense.” Your pooch can sense things before they happen and show that by acting out with hiding, weird behavior, and whining. Dogs are truly one of a kind. Stay pawsome! Give us a call at 519-752-3431 to schedule a visit.

Did you know that cats have a highly developed sense of hearing? They can detect a wide range of sound frequencies. They can hear sounds that are both higher and lower in frequency than compared to humans! Crazy, right? Contact us for more information about how to care for your cat. Call us at 519-752-3431.

Any behavior or sleep position can stem from a variety of causes. Some may be more subtle reasons than others, but there are none to worry about regarding your pet’s health! In general, when a dog sleeps on its back, it is a good thing. It usually means they are cooling off, feel safe, are showing submission, or are seeking attention. Some will even do it purely out of comfort! If you’re worried about your dog’s sleeping positions, the main thing to keep an eye out for is any sudden changes that coincide with sudden changes in behavior. If you’re unsure, give us a call at 519-752-3431 where we can better approach the concern.

Top 10 reasons why our techs are the best!!!

#10: Talent galore!

Look at how talented they are! From carving pumpkins, to helping wildlife, to being there whenever they are needed….these ladies are overflowing with talent! With these ladies around, you know your fur babies are in good hands!

#9 Multitaskers extraordinaire…

The life of a vet tech is a busy one…

10,000 steps a day? That’s nothing compared to the running around these ladies do!

At any given moment, they may be needed to help collect a blood sample for a sick patient, to take X-rays, to run diagnostics on our in house lab, to monitor anesthesia, to comfort a nervous pet, to wrestle with the Tasmanian devil himself!, to answer a phone, to help take a history, or any one of a hundred other tasks that are all just part of a “normal” day in the vet clinic.

These ladies not only keep up with it all, but they do it with grace and with a smile on their faces…

#8. They are highly skilled.

Did you know it takes a minimum of 2 years of post secondary education in addition to a rigorous examination process and ongoing continuing education to be a registered veterinary technician in Ontario?

#7. Vet techs keep veterinarians on track.

Yes, I said it. We vets have a tendency to get behind. Our techs help to keep us on track by collecting histories, collecting and analyzing samples…basically all the hard jobs!

#6. They have a dirty job.

Danger pay?

They should get it! Between being exposed to vomit, urine, bowel movements, claws , and teeth! These ladies are superstars of staying safe and keeping those around them safe as well!

#5. They love your pet when you can’t be there.

They are first and foremost….the advocates for your pets. They make sure to give the best cuddles, keep them warm, and make sure we are doing our best to help them lead their best lives! Even (and especially) on the really busy days!

#4. Vet techs are overworked, underappreciated, and underpaid professionals.

You can’t put a price on how valuable these ladies are to our profession. They don’t do it for the money, they do it for the love of each and every one of their patients.

#3. They spend most of the day talking to clients and teaching them everything they know about animals.

#2. You will never meet a more compassionate, caring, empathetic person. These ladies are truly a light shining in the darkness when your pets need them the most.

#1. Their job never ends.

Rarely, does a day pass by that we don’t receive a text, email, or call from one of techs on their own time. They may be checking in on a patient, or because they want to make sure we don’t forget to do one last thing for your pet before they go home, or because they “had a thought” that could make a patients life better. Their day does not end at 5pm. Because their hearts and souls go into this job, they NEVER stop caring about their patients. And yes…they often stay late!

This list may come late, and it is certainly not exhaustive. But it does not diminish how truly important our vet techs are to us! We could not do what we do every day without them!

Emily, Kelsey, Kate, and Sue…..you are so appreciated. Today. And everyday!

Happy belated vet tech appreciation month!

Pets carry more of their cholesterol in HDL (good cholesterol) vs. LDL (bad cholesterol), so saturated fats aren’t a problem and are actually a very good source of energy. We love your pets as much as you do and want to keep them as healthy as possible! Contact us at 519-752-3431 to schedule an appointment.
