Santa Paws came early!๐
๐ป in the form of some amazing people at Burlington Humane Society and Critter Cabs Animal Rescue Transport!๐๐ปโค๏ธ
Burlington Humane Society made a post offering SEVEN brand new wheelchairs to a rescue in need. Many of our friends and supporters tagged us, and no one else was in need of them so we were so happy to take them into our program!
Like many of these great offers, it is tough/impossible for me to get to some of the pick up locations. I donโt know what Iโd do without the team and volunteer drivers at Critter Cabs who saves the day evvvery single time by getting the wheelchairs and supplies to us from locations hours away without batting an eye ๐ฅน. Iโm so proud to be a small part of their team, and am thankful that I have them in my corner. Theyโre truly the best!๐
Thank you all SO much. Itโs so exciting receiving and putting together new chairs, knowing that they will change a deserving pets life for the better๐.
Maggie Cassella!๐
Saying THANK YOU doesnโt seem like enough for all of the support that was shown for us last night ๐ฅน๐.
Maggie Cee (Maggie Cassella) so kindly hosted a comedy night in Warkworth with ALL of her ticket costs going towards our supply fund to help animals in need! On top of the ticket prices, she also put out a donation jar for additional donations and omgg you all brought me to tears when I walked in the door to see that it was already so full, and the room was packed full of supporters of Maggie and our cause๐.
A grand total of $1,000 was raised last night! Insane! And it couldnโt have come at a more perfect time, as we had just used up our remaining funds on our last Help Em Up Harness order. This was an amazing and much needed night out of laughs, drinks and good people.
THANK YOU MAGGIE! And thank you SO much to everyone who came out to support this amazing event. Youโre all the best!๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Lola!๐
This is sweet Lola!๐ฅฐ Situations like Lolaโs are exactly why we are here, and Iโm so happy that we were able to help her and her family thanks to all of your help๐.
Lolaโs loving Mom reached out to us with this message and thanks to all of your support and donations, we were able to purchase a large stroller to help Lola live her best life!๐๐๐ผ
โMy heart dog Lola is 12 and experiencing more mobility issues now due to advancing OA, spondylosis and suspected hip dysplasia. Her vet also suspects GOLP. She has other medical conditions as well (hypothyroidism, dry eye, allergies, skin issues, etc.) and due to her increasing care needs and vet bills - I havenโt been able to afford to purchase a large stroller or a help em up harness for her yet. Do you happen to have a large stroller in your program and if so is there a waitlist?โ
We did not have a big enough stroller currently in our donations, so we purchased one for $169.39 plus tax with some of the monetary donations that we have received. Now Lola can go on alll of the adventures she wants without the stress of overdoing it or hurting herself. We were also able to send her a Help em Up Harness that helps her mom to get her around much easier! We just have to get the back end to them (my bad I didnโt put it in the bag!๐
) and sheโll be allll set!
Enjoy Lola! ๐
COOPER!๐
This beautiful boy and his dedicated family just drove alll the way here from St. Thomas, ON! Thatโs a 3 hour drive each way!๐คฏ๐
Cooper unfortunately has a tumour on his spine, which has caused him to lose use of his hind legs, but it doesnโt slow him down one bit! He had tried on a few different wheelchairs, and his Dad even built him one to try as well but none of them fit him juuust right.
As luck would have it for Cooper, we had the perfect set of wheels donated just last week from an amazing family who just lost their sweet Shepherd, Gypsy โค๏ธ๐. We are so sorry for their loss, and so thankful for their generosity and wanting to pass on Gypsyโs wheels to another pup in need.
As soon as I saw Coopers measurements, I knew this chair would be โthe oneโ for him, and it was totally meant to be ๐ซถ๐ป. The second we had him fitted, he was instantly so comfortable and wanting to run like the wind! ๐ฆฝ๐จ
Cooper says โthank you Gypsy, Iโll take good care of your wheels and keep them rollinโ in your memory!โ ๐ฅฐ๐พโค๏ธ
LUCY!๐
Sweet little Lowrider Lucys parents reached out to us recently when she started having a hard time with her hind end.
At 14 years old, Lucy is still a happy and spunky girl ๐๐ผ and wants to keep going for walks with her brother! They saw the spark in her eyes that wanted to keep going, so theyโre doing everything possible that they can for their sweet girl๐.
A huge thanks goes out to her great vet team at Port Hope Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Services for seeing her potential and sending Lucy our way for a set of wheels to keep her moving ๐ฅฐ.
Youโve got this little one! Keep wagging that tail ๐๐.
Jewel!๐
How beautiful is this adoptable girl?!๐
Our awesome and caring friends at Oshawa Animal Services reached out to us for help with finding one of the dogs at their shelter, Jewel, a Bailey Chair and we were on a mission to help!
Bailey Chairs are most commonly used for animals like Jewel with a condition called Megaesophagus. When they eat in the chair, their esophagus is vertical which allows gravity to move food down the esophagus to the stomach.
We put out a post for help, and as always our community pulled through!๐๐ผ not only did Jewel end up with a Bailey Chair, but she ended up with TWO which is amazing for whoever adopts this sweet girl. One for home, one for travel? Maybe one will help another dog in need as well! So many options!๐
Our good friends at Little Brown Dog got to work quickly on building Jewel her very own custom chair!๐ฅน Iโm amazed at how well done it is, especially for Mr Little Brown Dogs first time! ๐คฏ All of the little details make it soo special ๐. They even made the trip to deliver it and meet the sweet girl themselves.
A second chair was brought to Jewel from our awesome friends at Critter Cabs! Their volunteer team pulled together and were able to get her a chair all the way from Erin, to Oshawa! ๐โค๏ธ
I absolutely love when our community pulls together for animals in need. This is what itโs all about!๐ฅน๐๐ผ๐ #togetherisbetter
Myah!๐
Sweet Myah came by today to try on some wheels! ๐๐
Myah is 13 and unfortunately I having some progressive issues with her spine that have been affecting her hind end mobility. She can still walk for short periods, but was having a hard time going for her favourite walkies with her siblings and couldnโt make it very far lately ๐.
As soon as we made some adjustments to the chair that we tried on, Myah was instantly comfortable and was walking around like she owned the place!๐๐ผ ๐๐ผ
We were able to give her some grippy socks to help her inside the house, as well as a set of Muttluks to protect her feet when they drag outsideโค๏ธ.
Enjoy your walkies Myah!๐ฅฐ I canโt wait to hear how you do over the next couple of weeks!
Tango!๐
This handsome lad is Tango!๐ Tango is unfortunately battling cancer ๐ and heโs not able to jump into the truck as easily as he could before.
Today we were able to set Tango up with a ramp to help him and his dedicated Mama out ๐ฅฐ. Now he can get in and out easily, and his Mom doesnโt have to hurt herself trying to lift him every time. Win win!
Enjoy your truck rides buddy! ๐ป๐
Marvin!๐
Iโm in lovvve with Mr MARVIN!๐
Marvinโs Mom reached out to us for help with a wheelchair for their sweet boy. Marvin is a senior Puggo with suspected Degenerative Myelopathy. He still has use of his back end but it is much weaker than it used to be, so we helped him out by fitting him with a cool new ride to help him zoom around ๐.
Thankfully, the perfect wheelchair for Marvin had just recently been donated to us๐. Thank you so much Deanna for passing this wheelchair along to help more fur babies like your beloved Bear ๐ฅฐ.
We were also able to help Marvin out by passing along an amazing supplement from Dogsage that is specifically formulated for supporting animals with DM, which had also recently very kindly been donated to our program ๐ซถ๐ป, some healing and antibacterial ointment for his pressure sores, and a great urinary support supplement also from Dogsage that we had purchased for our girl Meeka before she passed๐ฅน.
We really couldnโt do this without all of you. Thank you so much for helping to give Marvin the new lease on life that he deserves. Keep on truckinโ Marvy!๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Shaggy!๐
Handsome Shaggy came by today to try out one of the quad wheelchairs that was donated by English Bulldog Rescue of Ontario a couple of years ago! ๐๐
Shaggy was referred to us by our friends at Pawsitive Animal Wellness, to see if we might have a chair to fit his needs.
Shaggys pawrents are amazing and have done absolutely everything possible for him since adopting him from a kill shelter. Sadly, he was hit by a car a few years ago before he went to the shelter and required amputation of his rear leg, and although his brace has been doing its job to keep Shaggy running around on his injured front leg like the happy boy he is, he needed something to help him get around when he takes a break from his brace.
It took lots of adjustments and MacGyvering to figure out what made Shaggy the most comfortable, but we werenโt giving up! Once we hit the right adjustments, Shaggy let us know with lots of tail wags and he was moving around comfortably!๐๐ผ
With love, patience and practice, this boy is going to be running around in his wheels in no time and I canโt wait to see it!๐คฉ
Ragnar!๐
Beautiful 11 year old Ragnarโs Mama drove him all the way from Ajax to come try on some wheels! ๐๐
Ragnar sadly has Degenerative Myelopathy and has been having more issues walking around than usual lately. Despite his diagnosis, this beautiful boy still has lots of spunk and drive in him๐๐ผ. He caught onto his new wheels immediately, like he had always had them! His Mom is excited to be able to take him places like fun trails and rivers again that he hasnโt been able to go to in quite a long time๐ฅฐ. We were also able to give him a comfy sling that will help with his regular potty breaks!
Have fun buddy! I canโt wait to hear all about your new adventures.๐พ๐
Kipling!
Eeek! Just look at this adorable little guy!๐ฅฐ
Kipling is a very special little man. He is a newly rescued double amputee from Mexico! He lucked out finding his amazing forever family who is going above and beyond to make sure he has everything he needs to live his best life ๐.
Kiplings family lives a few hours away from us, so since he required a small wheelchair, we were able to ship it out to them and find the perfect fit based on his measurements ๐.
He just tried on his new wheels today and is figuring out what theyโre all about. We canโt wait to see videos of him ripping around when heโs more comfortable with his new digs! Doesnโt he look great in them?!
Youโve got this Kipling! ๐ถ๐๐ผ
