This is a sad story and breaks my heart. It is a good reminder of the responsibility we have to provide a safe environment for our beloved furry felines.

The Hamilton Burlington SPCA wants to remind community members that your cat is safest INSIDE!

Did you know that keeping your cat indoors can significantly improve their quality of life and longevity?

In light of recent news that a local community cat had been shot with an arrow we wanted to take a moment to share just a few reasons why your cat is safer inside and a few tips to keep those active ones entertained.

🐾 Protection from Predators & Traffic: Outside, cats face numerous dangers from cars, dogs, other wildlife and sadly some humans. Keeping them inside ensures they’re safe from these threats.

🐾 The City of Hamilton has a cat at large bylaw which does NOT allow cats to roam off the property of the owner unrestrained.

🐾 Reduced Risk of Disease: Outdoor cats are more likely to encounter other animals, increasing their risk of contracting diseases or parasites. Indoors, they’re protected from these health risks.

🐾 Preventing Injuries: Cats are natural climbers and explorers, which can lead to falls or injuries outside. Indoors, they’re less likely to get hurt.

🐾 Longer Lifespan: Indoor cats tend to live longer, healthier lives than their outdoor counterparts. They can still enjoy plenty of fun and adventure right at home!

Keep Them Entertained with Indoor Enrichment:

🐾 Interactive Toys: Puzzle feeders, laser pointers, and feather wands are great ways to keep your cat active and engaged.

🐾Window Perches: Set up a cozy spot by the window so your cat can watch the world go by—bird watching is a favorite pastime!

🐾 Cat Trees & Climbing Structures: Cats love to climb! Provide them with a cat tree or shelves to explore and perch on.

🐾 Hide and Seek: Create hiding spots with boxes or blankets for your cat to discover. They’ll love the thrill of a good hiding place.

🐾 Quality Playtime: Spend time playing with your cat every day. It’s a great way to bond and keep them mentally and physically stimulated.

Sweet Nova (mama) and her adorable 1-month-old kittens have checked into Cats Only Bed & Breakfast! They arrived yesterday evening and are already making themselves right at home.

We’ve set up extra cushions and barriers to keep our curious little escape artist, safe and comfy. They’re simply too cute for words. 😻♥️

Today, our guest Mittens, has decided to come out of her hidey-hole!!😻🙌

Since checking in a few days ago, with her brother Mylo, both guests have been hiding away.

But tonight she decided to come out, get a few snuggles with staff and enjoy the river and birds outside of her suite.

Here at Cats Only, we often get guests who are a little shier than others, and it can take some time to feel comfortable. We love seeing our guests relax and begin to enjoy their stay at the BNB. Now we just have to wait for Mylo to come out and play! 🐾
