Happy's Place- Retirement Home for Dogs is where we adopted our senior Lily. Please join their group. If you are wanting to adopt a dog, please see all the incredible dogs they have. So many need loving homes.

I got up at 4am this morning to try to tackle the 23 owner surrender requests sitting there in my inbox. That doesn't include the 10 emails I sent back to other people yesterday, nor the 6 shelter dogs we committed to welcoming soon too.

At 4am I'm already boots to the ground trying to sort out how the heck we're doing this for another day when only 36 hours ago I made the mistake of writing the words "we have lots of space here".

And today? - new requests to help are already coming in. It's only 6am...

Right now, it's really hard to keep up. Who gets help and who doesn't. There are no shoulders big enough to make these decisions.

Every single dog we welcome has such a long laundry list of medical needs to be addressed that each one we say yes to will also come with thousands of dollars needed to change their lives.

At 6am it's a bit overwhelming.

But there's also this-

Behind the scenes, so many amazing volunteers working their tails off to create this special place where second chances exist. I am incredibly grateful for each person who gives so much of themselves to this rescue. The volunteers here, they are nothing but heroes in my mind.

So a mind switch. A perspective switch.

The things we celebrate. 3 amazing adoptions & new beginnings.

Dori, Milo, & Blue.

Because of rockstar foster homes, the absolute best volunteers, super duper adopters, fabulous medical care, & each of you- new lives & new opportunities exist.

And through it all- this is what keeps us going. The good stuff.

Happy adoption days to all 3 of you ❤️. No matter what, working together, it's going to be a really great day.

SUPER SWEET STORY !! 😊🦧🐕🥰

After losing his parents, Roscoe, a 3-year-old orangutan, fell into a deep depression. He refused to eat and showed no response to medical treatments, leaving the vets concerned he might succumb to sadness.

Meanwhile, zookeepers discovered an elderly, sick dog wandering the zoo grounds. They brought the dog to the animal treatment center, where Roscoe was also being cared for. By chance, the two met—and from that moment on, they became inseparable.

The orangutan found a new purpose in life, and both friends strive to be the best companions they can be for each other. They spend every moment together, sharing all their activities. Now living in Northern California, swimming has become their favorite pastime.

Although Roscoe is a bit wary of the water, his canine friend is always by his side, offering support and encouragement. Together, they have rediscovered joy, laughter, and the true meaning of friendship. ❤️🐾

Woodpeckers have a tongue that wraps around their entire skull to stabilize their brain and prevent it from shaking when they peck trees.

The force of a woodpecker's blow is equivalent to hitting your head against a wall at 25 km/h!

It repeats this action about 20 to 25 times per second, which is equivalent to 12,000 times per day.

So sad.

So sad.

Peyton passed away in our shelter last night.

He came to us just yesterday, a weary soul found in a barn. Fourteen years old, underweight, half an ear missing, and struggling to breathe. His microchip, dating back to 2009, was a silent witness to a life that once was – a life that had somewhere turned bleak and lonely.

In his final hours, Peyton experienced moments of love and care that had been missing for so long. We cleaned his crusted nose, combed out his matts, and he purred, basking in the affection he so deserved. He clung to our warmth, his body going limp with trust and perhaps, relief.

This morning, we found him gone, his struggle quietly ended in the comfort of a soft blanket and a full belly. His departure is a profound reminder of the countless animals who face similar fates, animals whose stories go untold, whose lives end without a whisper.

Peyton's story is a glimpse into the harsh realities faced by many animals. It's a testament to the resilience and enduring hope they possess, even in the face of neglect and abandonment. It underscores the vital role shelters play – not just as a place of refuge, but as a final sanctuary where love and care are given, even if just for a moment.

As we mourn Peyton, let's remember the countless others like him. Each day, shelters across the country are filled with animals waiting for a second chance, for a family, for a home. They wait for someone to notice them, to care, to extend a hand of kindness.

Peyton's story is not just about loss; it's about awareness, compassion, and the bitter-sweet role shelters play in the lives of animals. In sharing his story, we hope to shed light on the unseen struggles and to inspire a community of care and support for these innocent lives.

Rest in peace, Peyton. In your final hours, you were surrounded by love, and your story will not be forgotten.
