Buddy! I have groomed Buddy for 6 years. He’s fought cancer, and a protein disorder. He beat the odds until now. Sweetest boy ever! I will miss you sweet boy.

The text message you never think would happen. The text that will stop you from sleeping. Charlie deserved better. Clients will never realize how we fall in love with their pets. I cannot imagine how hard this must be on Charlie’s parents. Last night the sky opened up and took him back.

WHY I 'IGNORE' YOUR PET

When I walk into your home, I always 'ignore' your anxious or fearful pet (cat or dog) and wait patiently for them to make the first move.

I don't crowd them or touch them without consent. I don't face them head-on or stare them in the eye. I just observe them without putting them in a worse emotional position. Even when they venture close to me, I refrain from touching them. And no, I don't extend my hand so that they can smell me as they could smell me when I entered the gate already due to their keen sense of smell. Extending my hand just scares them. No sudden movements. No loud voices. Just calmness. I wait patiently for them to initiate contact and communication with me. Even then, I limit contact to 3 second bursts.

Sniffing me is not an invitation for me to touch! The dog is gathering information about me. I wait for him to nose me or paw me or lick me and then may pat them. Even then, I pause for corroboration (wait for another sign) to ensure that it's OK to pat them. Rather err on the side of caution and go slow.

I 'ignore' your pet out of love and respect. I give them choices. Choice based behaviour modification builds self-esteem and confidence.

Now you know why I 'ignore' your pet...

Ps - when I say ignore, I mean respect 🙂

Girl in the middle- Cocoa needs your prayers. Buddha, Allah, Jesus, Mother Nature- the universe. Whomever you worship please include her now. Sometimes your clients text you the worst of news. But deep down you know they will make it. You feel the spark. This sweet baby is really sick. I’m heartbroken.

Come on Cocoa fight. Not yet.

There are clients that come in and you just know. The past year every time Icey was on my table - I’d whisper in her ear. “I love you. Whenever you are ready it’s ok to let go”

When I went to see her and she lay panting in the grass the message changed. “I love you, I think it’s time Icey. He’s going to be ok- Dad will be ok. This is my last kiss. Go run Icey- you’ll be a puppy again.”

Yesterday her pain stopped. The world lost a great dog. 17 years Icey- you will be missed so much 🐾🐾🎈🐾🐾
