This is a friendly reminder about bites and scratches. Animals mouths and nails can be very dirty and carry disease.

It's important to have your tetanus and rabies up to date... And why it's important to make sure our pets have their rabies shot.

My hands, fore arms and some of my legs are actually quite covered in scars from bites and scratches... Mostly from cats and mostly feral cats.

Although we usually try and use heavy protected gloves, towels or blankets for protection it's not fool proof. We've had cats bite thru our gloves etc.

We've even had to take antibiotics or get IV infusions at the hospital for treatment due to cuts and bites.

My personal wounds haven't been that serious but can be quite painful depending on location.

Here are my tips:

Always rinse the wound as soon as possible, definitely use soap ( I know it will probably burn) I also always hold pressure around the site and but also encourage it to bleed. It allows to naturally flush the wound but not allow things to travel further into the blood stream.

Once washed I always use an antibiotic cream-- I like the polysporin or no name version that reduces scars. Depending on the location I may bandage overnight but I'll have air from the next morning on. Making sure I keep the site dry and clean moving forward.

If for some reason it becomes swollen, red, tender--- bruised even sometimes discharge. Go in and have it checked ASAP you do not want to mess around with infection.

We are almost at the end of the year and man has it been a good one! Normally we do mostly cats at our rescue but this last year has been wild for dogs! We took more in than we normally do and it was hard but we made it work!
HOWEVER! We only have FOUR LEFT!
FOUR DOGS LEFT IN CARE!
Wouldn’t it be nice to find them their fur-ever homes, hopefully before the holidays, so they can spend the time basking in the love and glory of their people.
So spread the word! Far and wide!! These beautiful puppers are looking for true love!

Hercules- a beautiful hunk of love. Needs snuggles, walks, and all the food. Man he loves his food. He’s so handsome and reminds me of scooby doo.

Blaze - a two year old doodle! He needs his emotional support stuffy at all times even to p*e and eat! He still has lots of puppy qualities and is super affectionate. Gets along with dogs and cats.

Stumpy- a one year old golden lab cross. His birthday was Halloween 🎃. He is a high energy ball of love. He likes other dogs and loves people. He’s a playful, energetic, sweet angel baby.

Koda- this pup is a funny dude! He’s weird in all the right ways. He has trouble on leash and will kind of army crawl, so he will need some patience and love. He is always happy to see you and has lots of energy.

Some of my kitty friends greeting me today in the catio. We've added heated water bowls. And we are bracing for snow so we will be adding a chicken heater and tarping off to block the wind and adding straw.
