A little more than a month later, and we are still over-the-moon excited for Hannah Sheehan and her great Clay Ranch horse, Pickle. 🥳

🏆Canadian High School Rodeo Champions 🏆 sure has a nice ring to it 😉

Needless to say, the barrel racing pen is always a competitive one, and to be there in person watching these two come out on top of a tough field from across the nation was a special memory for our Clay Ranch Gang.

Thanks to the entire Sheehan family for giving DC Oleas Dashing Doc (CJ Dashing Doctor x DC Stella Ella Olea) such a great home, and for helping him to realize his potential as a talented equine athlete.

Congratulations all over again! We wish Hannah and Pickle all the best as they move into the Canadian College Rodeo Association, and are excited to cheer them on along the way!

DC Oleas Dashing Doc (aka Pickle) and Hannah Sheehan are slinging dirt on their way into Brandon, Manitoba for the Canadian High School Finals Rodeo this weekend. 🔥🔥🔥

This dynamic team is fresh off their top-twenty finish at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming having finished THIRTEENTH in the average to a tough field of 200 of high school rodeo's top barrel racing contestants worldwide!

⭐️⭐️The REALLY cool thing for us is that Pickle represents 4 generations of Clay Ranch breeding.⭐️⭐️

Of her spunky, grey gelding, Hannah says, "He has taken me places I never could have imagined I would go!"

We've always celebrated the train-your-own and win-on-your-own method, 😉 and couldn't be more proud of what this team has accomplished. Pickle was a lightly started three-year-old when he left Clay Ranch, and Hannah has worked with him throughout her high school rodeo career to develop this winning partnership.

Besides their (Inter)National and Canadian Finals qualifications, Hannah and Pickle were crowned with Barrel Racing Average Champion & AQHA girls’ Horse of the Year titles for the Alberta High School Rodeo Association.

Huge congratulations and good luck to Hannah, Pickle and their supporters as they represent Team Alberta this weekend!

If you've seen these two go to work in the barrel pen over the last couple of years, you've no doubt seen them put on a show. 🤩

DC Red Freckles (aka Red) is owned and trained by Haley Glasrud. We were thrilled to see him gain another amazing partner in Saskatchewan High School Rodeo contestant, Olivia Parsonage.

Olivia and Red finished 14th overall in the average at the NHSFR in a field of 200 of the world's top high school rodeo barrel racers! That was only after they had already claimed the titles of Season Leaders, Average and Provincial Champions in the SHSRA, qualifying them for both the (Inter)National and Canadian High School Finals.

To know Red is to admire him, and he regularly receives compliments on his grit and power from people in various rodeo associations. Olivia had this to say about her time aboard the big, red dun gelding, "Thank you Haley❤️ We wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for you! Truly thankful every time I get to swing a leg over him, he sure is a fun ride."

Though Olivia won't be running Red at the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Brandon this weekend, we want to congratulate and to thank her and all her supporters for her various successes on the one and only Red. Best of luck, Olivia, as you represent Team Saskatchewan!

Nothing feels quite as slick as turning that perfect end pole. 😎

DC Watch Jac Travel (aka Tebow) and Rylee Olafson had an awesome year of pole bending, finishing 5th overall in the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association. They achieved an all-time personal best while competing at the NHSRA Finals in Gillette, Wyoming, and are looking to carry that momentum forward to the Canadian High School Finals Rodeo this weekend in Brandon, Manitoba.

Rylee says, "Tebow is always ready to fire through the arena gate. He loves his job and always wants to work. He’s taught me so much and we have worked well together in the poles this year!"

We're glad to see this team having so much success, and look forward to cheering them and all of Team Manitoba on at the Canadian Finals!

DC Bailey Bar Pine is a 2013 mare that goes back to some of our original, foundation quarter horse bloodlines that helped to build Clay Ranch into what it is today. In the words of Dan "you just can't walk by her without stopping to have a look". She is bred to DC JacSkipsEasy ("Jacson") for the 2023 foaling season.

DC Country Heels is a 2007 palomino mare who has been a "tried and true" part of our broodmare band. We are ALWAYS excited to see what she produces and this year is no different. Bred to our blue roan stud, Muy Bueno Pepto, this will be a very flashy foal!

DC Badges War Ella is a 2014 grey mare that has been a part of our broodmare band for several years now. She is bred to Muy Bueno Pepto ("Blue") again this year and it will definitely be a foal to watch for!

What does the view look like between the ears of your Clay Ranch Horse?

DC Miss Pica Pride aka “Little Tug” (Wranglers Pica Pride x DC Miss Lacey) went out for a 100+ mile tour in Michigan’s Elk Country this fall, and passed that test with flying colours (as well as some nice photos! 😉)

Owner, Sarah Eling, had this to say of her willing and reliable five-year-old mare:

💬 I am so grateful that Clay Ranch puts so much thought and care into their breeding program. DC Miss Pica Pride is as good as a 5 year old with a year under saddle gets! Over 100 miles, and never once did she refuse an obstacle we put in front of her whether it be a down tree, a ditch or water. This mare’s temperament and disposition are a testament to Clay Ranch’s thoughtful breeding.

The crew at Clay Ranch spent our Thanksgiving Sunday in the pasture pounding posts for a new fence line... But don't worry, it wasn't all work - we stopped in the afternoon to have a picnic down by the creek (we may have even had a couple beverages) 🥪🍻 Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The dust has settled after another phenomenal sale weekend in Ravenna, Michigan. We are once again humbled by the number of buyers that keep coming back to see us and our foals each year. It is truly one of our favourite weekends of the entire year and we are thankful for everyone who helps make it happen. We would like to extend a special mention to the sales staff at Ravenna Auction LLC, they put in so much work, not just on the sale weekend, but all throughout the year and truly make all the difference.

Our Clay Ranch Gang is on the road home today and tomorrow and we are excited to already have plans in the works for next year's sale. Thank you once again to everyone who bid, bought, and came to visit - hopefully we will see you again in 2023
