Elevated Water Levels Advisory - Jan. 10-12/25

Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Emergency Operations Centre.

Environment Canada has advised that a storm is expected to deepen as it passed very far to the east of Newfoundland today and tonight (Jan. 10/25), and is forecast to stall well offshore northeast of the island Saturday into Sunday before eventually moving further away Sunday night. This system is likely to bring high swells, which will combine with a run of high tides to produce another period of elevated water levels over portions of the east and northeast coasts this weekend into early next week.

• Time span: Jan. 10-12/25; mainly near high tide overnight Saturday night (Jan. 11) into early Sunday morning (Jan. 12).
• Water Levels: Canadian long-range model guidance indicates that the highest water levels are most likely to occur near high tide overnight Saturday night/early Sunday along north-northeast-facing coastlines in northeastern & eastern Newfoundland; high waves, pounding surf and water levels near or above High Astronomical Tide may continue to occur near high tides into early next week over these areas, but overall water levels should remain lower than those near Saturday night/Sunday morning high tide.

Similar conditions have caused:
• Localized low level coastal flooding.
• Roadway/shoulder erosion and washouts.

Please continue to monitor Environment Canada for updates: Environment Canada - Weather
