We’ll be bringing home this sweet boy for our program from Over The Hedge Moncton in March but we’re stuck on a name. I’d like him to have a human name like “Jeff” or “Richard” so if anyone has any ideas comment them below!

Waddles is once again available, after spending some time in a new home it was discovered that he is very slow to warm up to new people. Therefore he will not fit in a beginner home or with someone who is looking for a very interactive hedgehog for a long time.

Stormy & Bliss 🦔

I am rehoming a bonded pair of girls to an ideally experienced home.
99% of the time hedgehogs do not need a cage mate to thrive however Bliss is an exception to the rule and does significantly better with the company of another hedgehog. The requirements for a cage for two cohabitated hedgehogs are different as well, the cage will need to be significantly larger than my usual minimum of 6sqf and there will need to be 2 of every item you would typically keep in an enclosure ( 2 wheels, 2 hides, 2 water bowls, etc etc) as per usual I will require a photo of proper set up before allowing the girls to go to a new home.
Both girls are very easy to handle, Bliss is very fast and active so she would benefit from lots of enrichment. Stormy is a little bit slower but still very happy to explore.
Both of them are such lovely additions to our little herd but it’s time for them to be loved in a pet home where they’ll get more attention.
Stormy is 2 years old and Bliss is 3
The pair of them will be 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

Lately we’ve been trying to find ways to add more naturalistic elements and enrichment to our enclosures and these dig boxes have been great! They’ve been in all our cages for about a week now and the hogs love them so I thought I’d share. 🦔🦔

1- Any plastic container that is big enough for your hedgie to dig in and low enough for them to easily walk in and out of

2- Leca balls. These aren’t a necessity but they add a drainage layer to avoid any excess humidity or fluid in case your hedgehog decides to use this as a litter box as well as a safe extra texture in the dig box.

3- Paper towel- depending on how long you want your dog box to stay in tact you could replace this with a secured piece of netting or screen material that will keep the two substrates seperate but will still allow air flow and drainage. I expect I’ll have to clean these out semi often so I just used paper towel as it’s easy to swap out.

4- Substrate- I chose coco coir (not coco soil) as it’s soft and natural but does not have any small sharp pieces that could get stuck in a hedgehogs eyes or private area. There are many different options though, even scraps of fleece make a great, easy to maintain dig box.

And last but not least I added some live mealworms to allow the hogs to put those hunting instincts to good use! You could also do this with their kibble or any other treat they enjoy.

Giving hedgehogs activities and enrichment like this really helps them lead happier lives and build stronger bonds with their humans 🥰

What better way to enjoy a snow storm than with some sweet photos of Snow’s babies!
Hard to believe we went a whole year without having any albinos and now we’ve had 3!
Things have been pretty busy over here so I haven’t been getting as many photos but the babies have been getting just as much love and socialization.

** This post has been modified to exclude the original photo that was included in order to protect the poster of the ad, despite my efforts to protect their anonymity I can see how it would still feel offensive to see your post on a public page. however my points still stand so I will be leaving the post up. This is not meant to cause drama for any one person, I am responding to multiple questions I have received about using my babies in their breeding program**

I hate having to make posts like these but I want to make it super clear to anyone browsing my page that I am not offering hedgehogs for breeding purposes. I have a strict non-breeding contract that is signed upon pick up of your baby for a few main reasons:

1) A lot of people (including myself) have put a lot of time into preserving the lines I have in my program, both in terms of health and temperament. It would be fighting a losing battle for everybody involved to do this if just anybody could throw in whatever genetics they could find because they wanted to make money or experience having a litter.

2) Hedgehog breeding is HARD (when you care about them anyway), they’re complex animals with very specific needs and that is only amplified when you get into breeding and raising them to be good little companions. It also takes a lot of time to screen potential owners and prepare them to take care of their hedgehogs. I love doing it, and sharing my love of hedgehogs with people but it is still a commitment that it can be hard to make time for. It also involves a lot of emotional input, when you’re dealing with both your own beloved pets as well as others- emotions can run high!

3) I’m still relatively new, my mentor had 10 years of experience before she took me on, she spent about a year making sure I was going to be good at this before I even had my first litter, and I still have to ask her questions frequently. While I am very good at what I do, I’m not qualified to teach anyone else yet, and I guarantee that without a mentor to teach you all of these things, you are posing a much greater risk to your hedgehogs and I can’t support that.

It is super frustrating when I have people fill out my applications and lie about their plans with my babies just to see them make posts like the one below that not only shows their lack of understanding on hedgehog care, but also sets up those potential babies’s owners for failure and disappointment.

Oat milk baths are a fantastic resource for babies who are quilling but they’re also really great for hedgehogs who are suffering from dry skin (which is quite common with these guys). All of my babies go home with bags to make oat milk baths with as you never know when they’ll benefit from a little spa day!

Introducing.. Stormy and the Seven Dwarves 😂
That’s right Stormy gave us seven sweet babies last week. This will be her last litter before retirement, she was the first mom I had in my program so it’s a bittersweet moment for sure.
Some of the babies aren’t spoken for yet so feel free to reach out with any questions 🥰

Waddles is currently pending

If you’ve been following my page for a while you’ve probably seen our little bottle baby Waddles. He’s all grown up and is an all around great hedgehog now. Since we don’t know exactly what caused the deformity in his leg when he was young he will never be used in our breeding program just to be on the safe side. Therefore we may consider rehoming him to the right experienced pet home in the new year. He’s a special guy so he will not be adopted out on a first-come-first serve basis.

“Oatmeal” is growing like a w**d! Dior has been such a good mom to her.
We have one of Veronica’s babies not spoken for. Her babies tend to be very chill and beginner friendly, they also have the dark masks that I love. So if anybody is interested in adding a baby to the family in the new year feel free to fill out an application 🙂

The babies enjoyed some new treats tonight. This is Millie’s last night with us before she goes home tomorrow :)

Dior gave birth today, so far it looks like shes just had one. Based on how much weight she’s gained that baby will be WELL fed that’s for sure 😂

The babies are two weeks old now which means it’s time to start evaluating them to find them the right homes. The sensory pen looks kind of ridiculous but it’s actually a really good way to desensitize the babies and to see how they react to certain things. In this video we can see that the typically very happy Loonie is getting pretty cranky with her brother crawling all over her. If that behaviour is a pattern we would not place her in a home that was interested in cohabitating her with another hedgehog.
