Savvy Saturday!

Just a reminder that with the cold front coming time spent with your horse may have to look a little different! Our doctors recommend avoiding riding or strenuous exercise if the temperatures are below -18 (or when you can see your breath in an indoor arena!). Working your horse at these temperatures can cause damage to their lungs and cause chills if they get sweaty. Alternative activities include leisurely hand walks to keep them (and their guts!) moving or working on ground manners!

Just two sisters who both have a passion for horses. Great lessons today with these two girls! Butterscotch was her perfect self, and the dogs felt they needed to be part of the action too. 😉 Thanks to their mom Jess for taking these pictures!

Yesterday we had to say a sudden goodbye to our lovely barn cat boots.

After noticing she wasn’t breathing normally, I took her to the vet to discover she had fluid around both of her lungs, and a tumour on one of them. It comforts me to know what was wrong and that she didn’t suffer. Huge thank you goes to my friend Megan and the staff at Elgin Animal Hospital for getting us in last minute on a Friday evening.

Boots was the Walmart Greeter when we first came to see the farm. She loved everyone, loved attention, and was good at her barn kitty duties. It’s going to be hard to find a cat that compares to her.

Rest in sweet peace Boots. ❤️

So proud of this pair!! Erin and Arthur competed at their first ever OEA event on Sunday and won!! They were 2nd overall but when they separated it into Senior and Junior they were 1st! They put in a very solid dressage test for their personal best score, then jumped show jumping and cross country very well! It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of their journey. Erin made this goal and her hard work and dedication paid off! It was her first full event in 10 years to boot! Can’t wait to see all that we can do over the winter and get out for a full season of eventing next year!

Thank you to Glenarden and all their volunteers and organizers for an excellent show!

What a great way to end the season! 1st 🥇 and 2nd 🥈 place for Keeley and Butterscotch at LDA today!! So proud of this pair and the improvements they have made over the season! Thank you to Andromeda Equestrian Centre and London Dressage Association for a great season! Until next year!

This is a big reason why I do what I do. I want to share these animals with everyone I can, in the best way that I can. They teach us soooo much more than we could ever imagine!

Megan and I having some fun with our paint ponies last week! Megan and I have been friends for about 14 years! We somehow have never had our own horses at the same barn! It’s been so nice having Megan and Timmy to ride with!

Knocked some rust off the other day with Murphy! For those of you who don’t know, Murphy and I used to event and did a lot of shows! We did quite well, almost always placing top 3. We competed up to the preliminary level which is about 3’7. So you can imagine Murphy’s opinion of these small jumps 😂 He’s 21 now and enjoying the easier life, but he still loves to work and LOVES to jump. We battled a lot of abscesses and such this winter/spring so it’s been nice getting back into it. It has actually been 2 years since we last jumped…. So it was a great day for us!!

Also wanted to make an extra special post to thank Steve Pinsonneault, our local MPP for coming out to present us with this certificate, and also to get on a horse!! Timmy was his perfect self and Steve was a natural up there!!
