As farrowing comes to a end at the farm one of my top prospects for this year finished up yesterday with a heathy litter of 13 purebred Berkshires. In her first two litters she produced 25 live piglets and 1 stillborn. All her piglets are well marked, no white all over the place, healthy, steady growth rate and great mothering skills. A great reminder why I love Berkshires pigs so much.
Due to the recent passing of my beautiful wife I had to make the hard decision to downsize my Berkshire herd. One of our registered Berkshire sows just weaned her first litter. She had a bit of a smaller litter in numbers but made up for it with great mothering skills. Over all she did a pretty good job. Here’s the stats on her first litter

Smallest piglet at weaning (8 weeks old) 36.7 lbs
Largest piglet at weaning: 49.8lbs
Average piglet weight at weaning : 43.7 lbs
Total litter weight at weaning:349.7lbs.
It’s that time of year again. These two are the last of the herd to come back in from the woodland to their winter living area. As the seniors of the herd these guys know the routine now.
I cut Lora some applewood boards to make some charcuterie/ serving boards and she did a amazing job!!
Cobblestone Edith had a busy night farrowing 13 healthy purebred Berkshire piglets. She’s one of our older sows but still holding her own in the herd.
Our purebred Berkshire gilt is turning out to be a great mother. Although the runt didn’t make it due to being too small and weak, she is doing a great job caring for the remaining 11 piglets.
Our Berkshire gilt farrowed right on time and didn’t disappoint. She farrowed early this morning giving us 12 live piglets and 1 stillborn all in 2.5 hours.
Up next to farrow is my favourite purebred Berkshire gilt bred this year. Only 2 or 3 more days to go and we’ll get to see her piglets.

I’m pretty pleased and can’t wait to watch them grow up
Exciting day for me today as one of our Rocky creek berkshire gilts is ready to farrow. Although I still have a long way to go, to date this is one of the better more traditional gilts we bred here on the farm from our two top bloodlines. Excited to see how she does.
Momma pig farrowed 2 weeks ago giving us a nice littler of 10 purebred Berkshires. It’s her smallest litter to date but I won’t hold it against her 😉😂😂
Momma is all bagged up and has her bed made so it won’t be too much longer before piglets🐷
Right in the middle of our summer farrowing is one of our super stars. Farrowing and weaning 14 piglets last time we’re hoping she has another great litter for us. Won’t be much longer of a wait!

Here’s a little video of Rocky Creek Kate(Bella), one of our registered Berkshire sows and her beautiful piglets. I’m amazed at how healthy and big her piglets are at 38 days old. She is one great mother putting everything she has into her piglets.
