Been having some fun doing demos at fairs this month! A Garrocha pole on fire has been one of my fun ones the past few years with colts in challenges I’ve done, figured it’s about time my stud got to play with fire as well. See you at IPE Lighthorse & Miniature Horse Show in two weeks!
Wildfires first time seeing this obstacle today. Within 15 minutes he had it figured out pretty decently
Life’s about the journey, not the drive. Make the time to go ride on that beach and pretend you’re in Mexico when really it’s just above freezing and you’re on Lake Michigan 😁
Don’t ever let your dreams of showing be determined by height and age!

We’ve been having fun here at Hidden Hills Farm in Langley, BC the past week!
In case you weren’t aware, we’ve been on the road the past week to Texas for the EXCA world finals!! (It will be live-streamed again as well)
But, like always, I’m taking the longer more scenic route to really soak it in and enjoy the trip! Here’s some view from southern Idaho where I stayed over at Horseman Haven Ranch. Some of the nicest people you can meet, great trails to ride on and there’s a hot spring just up the road.
It’s that time of year already! Whose all ready to shift into winter riding?? Make sure to get stocked up on Canadian Beeseal for oiling your saddle, and all leather products, before get stuck wet in the snow!
Beeseal is one of my sponsors and I can’t say enough great stuff about Matthieu and this company he runs! You won’t find a better leather conditioner or saddle soap on the market! On top of that, I use Beeseal on all my wood cabinets in my horse trailer, leather couches, and as a hoof conditioner as well. Or even as lip chap when needed, because it’s all natural, it works on everything!!
Quick review of the new Dk Saddlery wade saddle I now ride, here at Extreme Cowboy Alberta Finals.
Ever wonder about crossing rivers, what to look for, where to cross? New video coming this week on the subscription to help figure some of the small pieces out.
Made this quick demo on tying a halter, last week while camped out on a bit of rain, at Lundbom Lake. Tying these halters is always a hit at the trail riding and beginner packing clinics we put on.
Want to learn how to tie these quick halters? Head over to www.HorsesThatWork.ca and subscribe to the weekly videos and get the full instructional video on how to tie these.
To say we have fun when we get to the fairs would be an understatement! These kids did great playing around with their 4H steers on the obstacles, we’re going to start doing this at every fair as a new event 😏
Who else wants to try this!?
Abbotsford Agrifair
Here’s our Extreme Cowboy demo tonight at the Abbotsford Agrifair!! It always great being able to spread this great sport around and getting more and more competitors involved 😊

There’s two myths busted in this first ride video.
FIRST- Stallions should not be “crazy and aggressive”!
SECOND - First rides do not have to be rank Bronc rides!
So many firsts in this video I’m not sure where to start!
- first time this colts been to an arena
- first ride
- first time my stallions been turned loose in an arena (or round pen for that matter) while riding a colt
But we’ll start with the second one first. This is my personal colt, wildfire, and this is his first ride. Number one, this isn’t the way I planned on doing his first ride, but the opportunity presented itself and I went with it, mainly for the horses sake. I love raising my own herd because it allows me to try new things without the pressure of a client, or at the risk of “ruining” a client horse. If I get into a wreck on my own horses, it’s fine, I’ll have the allotted time to fix it and work through it.
I was working him at home in the round pen and a surprise thunder/hail storm rolled in. So I loaded Wildfire up with my stud and a futurity mare and headed to the arena. My thoughts were, he’s saddled so he might as well come and get exposed a bit. Once I got there I had him tied him and figured, we’ll he might as well see the arena a bit so I ponied him around for 10-15 minutes, and he had figured it out pretty good, considering he’d never been ponied. But he got to a pretty good spot and looked pretty good about life, and I figured there was no time like the present. I know I’ve laid a solid foundation in at home and was confident with what I’d done prior and earlier today. So I stepped off my stud and worked my way into the saddle on the colt (who’s a son of my stud, it was a real father son bonding moment) From there I sat on Wildfire and started moving his feet around and to see what I had working for me. He freed up and moved around at a walk pretty good, moving a foot here and there as needed. This is one of my own colts that I’ve been wo
Can’t believe it’s day 6 already here in Summerland and the last day of the clinics here!!
Here’s a short clip from a kids only session here over the weekend. We always start with teaching and working through some solid foundational horsemanship before we start in on the obstacles, this is a great short sample of that.
