Happy 2025! With spring on the horizon, I am now accepting bookings for shearing services. To streamline our schedule and reduce travel expenses, we encourage you to book early, allowing us to group appointments in your area. When requesting a quote, kindly provide comprehensive details about your herd or flock, such as location, animal count, s*x, breed, and the date of the last shearing. This information is vital for creating an accurate quote. Please note that several conditions must be met for shearing, including dry animals, a small enclosure to minimize stress, and fasting sheep for 8-12 hours prior to shearing. To arrange a booking, please contact me through Facebook Messenger or call/text 250-428-1827.

I am located in Creston but travel throughout the kootenays.

4H heart, hands, head, and health. 4H teaches much more than just caring for your animals, it teaches our youth compassion, leadership, personal goals, and many other things to become productive adults. My most favourite part about it, is that it’s a hands on learning. I was able to get two groups of 4h lambs to shear. I was so lucky to be able to take time with each of these groups and explain why and how we shear sheep. In my first group I even had one of the youths jump in and give it a shot! She only completed the crutching portion of shearing, but that is amazing on its own. I’m rooting for all of you!

I’ve been lucky this year to have two rams who let me shear them standing. I find rams a little harder to work with so it was nice to have this as a treat! Shout out to my clients for sending me some after photos sometimes I get busy and forget to catch a quick pic!

From wooly to shorn. These ewes have the cutest babies if you zoom in on the second picture you will see adorable lambs. On the final picture you will see the ram who was an absolute gem to work with.. if you zoom in on his head he has a unicorn horn growing from his forehead.

These lovely ladies got done last week! The first ewe in the pictures has spinal bifida so I was sure to take extra care with her. We left the bifida pocket un-shorn as the owner will trim with scissors. I sheared her standing as she couldn’t be done traditionally like the last two ewes in the pictures.

First flock of the year to be shorn.

When working with animals I strive for a low stress handling of them. You will notice I don’t mind her moving around( I also stay calm and don’t jump when she moves so that she knows I will not be quitting weather she throws the tantrum or not) and getting used to me and the electric clippers as these guys have been done with hand shears for quite a few years. At the end when you hear my clients say we should tie her up tighter and stop the video, but what we didn’t get to show you is that we did not adjust her length of tie just allowed her to calm down and go back to working on her.

Klyde (brown) and Kuddles (white & brown) received their first shearing from me this weekend and were an absolute pleasure to work with. They will be feeling fresh for the summer. My clients had requested I leave a little extra fibre on to give them more protection from the weather and those pesky bugs.
