Time to introduce myself...

Hi! I'm Janna. When not dog walking or training I can be found volunteering for search and rescue, learning precision shooting, hiking, camping, running, gardening or reading. I am a nerd, shy and introverted at heart.

I grew up in the UK, trained as a biologist and then worked in research and conservation through my 20's and 30's. This allowed me to live and work in some pretty remote and cool places in Africa: Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Liberia. I moved to Vancouver in 2008 for a job with UBC at the Fisheries Centre. The transition from research and fieldwork outside, to project management inside, was not the best fit for me. I learned that I am very much a practical and action-orientated person. I moved to Vancouver Island for a new outdoor career as a hiking and kayaking guide, which led me to Cumberland. I started working as a paramedic to help supplement this seasonal income. These first aid skills together with my comfort outdoors made volunteering for Search and Rescue seem like a good idea and I have been with the Comox Valley team for over 10 years. My field lab and SAR dog, Rudy, just turned 5 and my Dachshund, Otso, is 7 months and I have lots of fun things planned for him.

I never imagined I would be self employed and some days wearing 'all of the hats' is hard but I love being able to set my own direction and do things how I think they should be done. Being outside and moving suits me well and I enjoy my short little interactions with all of you each day. I feel lucky and grateful to be a small part of your dog and families lives.

So that's me in short. I am excited to see where this all goes and thank you for your support and enthusiasm this far!

Happy 5th Birthday Roo! His puppy name was 'Haggis' since he was born on Robbie Burns day. He was the biggest of his litter and has maintained that lead, growing into the handsome and powerful beast he is today. He is a talented SAR and competition dog and my very best buddy. I wish him many more healthy years doing all of his favourite things!

Thank you for all of your encouragement and enthusiasm over my re-branding and for taking a few moments to chat as I pick up or drop off your dog. It makes my day and means the world.

I am really excited for our new look, for the new year and to see where 2024 takes us!
