Haskaps are ripening, so yummy! Picked some today but some still need time to get sweeter.
Our new girl Cinders, she came to us from our friends who had her as a house chicken, but they wanted her to have a better life and live with a flock. She is about 5 but still lays eggs, she is getting used to her new life with us.
The flower patch we planted in a spring from dollorstore seeds is finally started to bloom a little, no idea what they are so far! Haha
And lastly, our hardy kiwi is in bloom!!! I am so excited!

Tomatoes got their first haircut today, and some are ready to flower.
Some of our haskap started to ripen. The one that we got last year loaded with berries but still completely green. Let’s hope birds will stick to service berries 🤞

As we started planting our garden, it is been bitter sweet. Our girl Luka went to the Rainbow Bridge on Victoria Day. It was unexpected and fast. Our girl who was such a huge part of our homestead. She was the original chicken guard and garden helpers. She always was in garden with me, be it planting or weeding or more importantly sampling. She was a chief garden gnome who would sample all of her favourite things before anyone else have a chance. When she was outside and we couldn’t see her, it was guaranty she was in a garden eating peas, beans or kale. Her brother will continue her legacy since she taught him everything she knew. We miss you very much our girl, love you Luka Lue! Hope Rainbow Bridge has some wonderful gardens for you to raid 💔

This is result of our girls (chickens) working every day. We created a scratch box for them in their run since they don’t get to free range all the time. It is a bottomless box made from 2*4s that we fill with food scraps, weeds, leafs, bedding and so on. This spring I got 4-5 wheel barrels of the goodness! Plenty of thick gorgeous warms too!
Today I cleared it out and spent two hours digging weeds to fill it with, a bit of bedding on top and some scratch to make them go nuts! Producing eggs and making gorgeous soil - chickens for the win haha
