so let's talk A**l glands people!!! here's some very vivid pictures as to why as a groomer i make sure to offer gland expression. small dogs are more prone as they have a harder time doing it themselves. Here you see what can occur in a short amount of time. the bum of this animal was reported to be fine the day before....when my x called about his concern is had him brought over asap to see what was causing him to act "wierd" i was told he just needed his glands expressed probably. i don't groom him so i took him down and this is what it found :(I warm compressed with clove oil water poltis and i then flushed the area with a proxide water mix for some time using a child advil syringe .I took antibiotic ointment packed the wound with a burn barrier sheet and gauze . and made a puppy panty out of my son's toddler gonchies , I kept him over night repeating the flush and packing several times as it drained. after to be safe they had the vet take a look and although it was doing well the vet prescribed a med that you inject into the wound to be safe .
sooo what happened you might wonder why he has two big empty holes ? since the a**l glands sit on muscle when they become inflamed or infected to the point you see here they rupture and the easy exit is the soft tissue ,forcing them to explode outward rather then Inward.
I don't think this just happens over night I've seen it several times a**l glands swell , become purple warm to the touch, the a**s is pushed outwards to the side by the swelling .... so this year let us all be vigilant for our fur babies. if you notice bum a scooting, a metallic smell , your dog hesitating to sit , shaking (it's not always nervous, alot of the time it's a pain response) if you notice the sides of his a**s is puffed out , discoloration,or the skin is shinny and thin, or just he has his tail between his legs and is agressive if someone moves to touch his back end . remember this pic , avoid this situation by regular visual health checks , consistantly grooming, and the occasional a**l glands exspression by vet or groomer if your pet doesn't require alot of fluff and puff grooming through the year.
