Did you know? It’s coyote denning season from Feb to approx May. During this time, coyotes may be more likely to perceive dogs as serious threats to den sites or competition for territory, resulting in bold or defensive behavior.
To reduce potential conflict with coyotes, please keep dogs on a leash and supervise your pets - especially in your backyard if you live near a ravine, park or green space.
For other ways to be coyote wise, visit edmonton.ca/Coyotes
One more day to join the fun down at the Expo centre! Lots of creatures, vendors, and of course The Official SuperDogs!
It might be white out now, but Spring is just around the corner….

Intermediate class: Wednesday March 6, 8:15-9:15pm
Classes held at The Urban Dog Dog Daycare
Here is a great opportunity if you have a people loving and social dog. Great “work” for the mature dog OR a great way to get your dog started as a therapy dog!
The Glenrose Hospital needs dogs and their owners to visit patients who love animals. This is a great way for you and your dog to give back to your community. A visit with a dog can really make a positive difference for patients who are often struggling. Shifts are only an hour or two depending on your dog’s energy level for meeting new people. Shifts are very flexible and include evenings, weekends and about once a week for a minimum 6-month commitment. Dogs only need to complete a vet behavioral assessment and have updated vaccinations. Volunteers get free parking and snacks. Volunteers need to provide a clear criminal record check—at our expense-- and complete other Alberta Heath Services Volunteer Resources requirements. For more information contact:
Daryl Richel, Coordinator, Volunteer Resources Glenrose Hospital.

Ok - so here is a little story on TRUSTING your dog (which I did not on this particular time). This is clearly a handler mistake, not a false alert - for those who know what to look for. For those who need help seeing it:
Rumba was super amped up for some reason and was trying to flip all the boxes over and shuffle them more. I told her to stop it and recued her search. As you can see, she got hung up on the two boxes that were close to each other (I’m assuming there was food on one of the boxes or right beside). She did go to the last box and tried to alert on the last (correct) box but I CALLED HER OFF. I was sure it was one of the side-by-side boxes as she had a lot of interest there - but she never gave me her alert (pushing the box out of the line). Rumba decided I was asking her to do something different so she flipped the lid off the box and sat inside of it. As you can see, she knew where it was all along. I was confused because of the mess she made with the containers and chose not to trust her or resend her to search.
At least it got a huge laugh, it was a cute fail lol. I think I told her she was a jerk as we were leaving the stage. After watching the video….I told myself I was the jerk and asked her for forgiveness.
This was a skill that Jitterbug was struggling with for the better part of the year. We kept plugging along with it and he finally had the Ah-ha! moment while we were on the road this summer. I think he really loves showing off this skill now!!
Moral of the story - don’t get frustrated and give up! Find different ways to explain what you want, think outside of the box. Dogs are smart, they will figure it out as long as you have patience 😊
And this is why I neglect social media🤣🤣🤣
Lol😂
Well, I know…..I’ve neglected this page for a while. Here are some photos of the fun events we took part in over the summer. I will post videos from the summer in an attempt to not neglect this page. Got some new tricks and ideas for my pups to work on over the upcoming winter - stay tuned!
🤣🤣🤣
