Edmonton: Check out this cool event

Hi everyone, the time has come to announce the Grand Opening of our new location! To celebrate this occasion we’ll be hosting a two day event on Saturday, January 4th and Sunday, January 5th from 10AM-6PM at 14625 122 Ave NW.

Throughout the weekend we’ll be hosting fun events for each of our major sport services including Fun Runs, Try its, Ask a Trainer, and Showcases. Fun runs will be open to all newcomers and experienced handlers alike. Try its will be hands-on introductions into our various sports to see how much you and your dog enjoy it. For Ask a Trainer, we will have experienced obedience trainers available for advice/demonstration on any obedience/behavioral problem you’re experiencing. Showcases will be our trainers showing what they got with their own dogs, make sure to check out their amazing dogs who are competing in some of the highest levels of their fields.

Entry tickets into these events (except showcases) will be $7.50 each and discounted down to $5 if you purchase 5 or more and will be purchasable on site. Food for purchase will be available throughout the day. A general schedule of the day's events will be posted by Monday to help plan your day. We want to emphasize that any purchases will not be necessary to attend, so feel free to come by if you’d just like to check out our new space and hang out!

Our general rules will still be enforced in order to provide a safe and fun environment for all. All dogs must be on leash at all times. No nose to nose greetings between dogs. Indoor shoes or socks only on our matted training floors. Crates will be provided in various locations of our facility, but crating out of your car or in your own crate will be necessary if we are at capacity.

We are so excited to start this next chapter in our journey. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

‘Kannon’ (Ricky x Ellie) is a Service Dog in Training.
From his owner/handler Tanya:
“Agribtion Stockdogs today... Kannon has had a big working day, so far, watching stock dogs do their thing. He has been such a good boy. When I did let him watch he sat quietly, watched intently but I was able to redirect him immediately. Couldn't ask for anything better honestly. They he did his job picking up my dropped cell phone, twice... 🙄 Oops... He helped me do a few other tasks, as trained, happy to be here and finally decided laying down (without being asked) and chilling, not needing to see all the action was ok to do too. Not once did he attempt to bark, whine, pace or be disruptive. Once again, super proud of this young one!

He definitely looked like he wanted to give it a go.... But showed SO much self control.”

🎉A very Happy Belated 15th Birthday to ‘Casa’!
From her owner Sharon:
“My amazing Casa turns 15 today. Where have the years gone? Casa is my first Portuguese Water Dog and has taught me well. Casa's littermates were Mission, Tallulah , Maddie ,and Tango. She was the mother to Blanca and is the Grandmother to Charlie , Kanga and Gia and Great Grandmother to many.
Sadly we never got involved in any dog events when Casa was younger but as a senior she showed her love of tricks and received her Championship in the Do More With Your Dog!program. She loved working and still does. Anything for treats!!”

The HLD was established to assist breeders and researchers to improve the health of Portuguese Water Dogs. All the information added to the database helps researchers learn what health issues our breed is facing and if there are any correlations that can be drawn from research. It also helps breeders make educated decisions about breeding Portuguese Water Dogs.

‘Pink’ CH Baywood N Peak Get The Party Started 🐾🎉our 91st Canadian Kennel Club Conformation Champion for Baywood Portuguese Water Dogs. The most of any Portuguese Water Dog breeder in Canada!

While the large majority of our puppies have been sold as loving family pets for the past 35 years, Baywood actively shows our Portuguese Water Dogs because it is the best way to ensure that we are producing correct, high-quality puppies.
In a dog show, a dog is rated on how it conforms to the breed specifications (Breed Standard). Winning dogs must be physically correct and display outgoing, confident attitudes. The unbiased opinion of qualified judges, confirm for us that our dogs possess the right conformation and personalities.
While every dog needs not to be show ring perfect, every breeding should start off with that as a goal so that the unique qualities of the Portuguese water dog are not lost.

Working or performance competitions test both a dogs attitude and athletic ability. A working dog must have a desire to cooperate with its handler, a trait a loving family pet should poses as well. Whether they compete or not, they are usually fun and easy dogs to live with.

When looking for a family pet, “champion bloodlines” is not enough. Look for a breeder who has dogs who can perform as a champion and have some sort of title behind its name. Brenda Brown believes that any dog is capable of: a Novice Trick Dog title, a Canine Good Neighbour/Canine Good Citizen certificate and a Rally Novice title.

With a few exceptions, a Baywood dog must earn a breed ring championship or working title before they can enter our breeding program. As well as pass their health testing and demonstrate a temperament or traits worth carrying forward.

🛑Buyer Beware: Absolutely NO reputable & responsible Portuguese Water Dog breeder would purposely cross breed their dogs.

Their is no purpose or need for a PortiePoo or PortieDoodle besides greed & money. Please do not be wowed by the marketing or Instagrams of such disreputable breeders.

A Portuguese Water Dog is not for every home. They are a working dog by history and can be strong willed, stubborn and high energy. They are also incredibly smart, driven and loyal. PWDs are a nightmare to some and perfection to others.

It is up to potential homes to do their research and seek out reputable breeders.
🐾 Health testing does not mean a vet exam. Any PWD used for breeding should have OFA or Pennhip hip rating, and a genetic test result for PRA, EOPRA, GM1, JDCM, MO and Improper Coat
🐾 The best place to find education on this breed is the National Club websites. That means the Portuguese Water Dog Club Of America (PWDCA.org) or the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Canada.

Please do your research for the betterment of the breed and responsibly produced dogs.
