We loved spending a day with this guy last week🐾❤️ He is so sweet and has such a unique personality!

He was neutered, and received a microchip at the same time. Since then, he is doing well at home and is almost completely recovered ! 🥹👏🏻🐾

We were visited by a basket full of adorable Yorkie/Toy Poodle puppies! They are 8 weeks old and here for their first set of vaccines and deworming. 🥹💕

They did so well and are full of energy!! Great job you guys ! We will see you in 3-4 weeks for vaccine #2! 💕👏🏻🐾

We are starting a new weekly series called “Fudge Fridays”! Fudge is RVT Gabby’s dog who is clearly full of useful knowledge and willing to share! 🐩 This good boy will be sharing his vast amount of knowledge weekly! 👏🏻💕

Todays topic: Internal Parasite Protection!

⁉️Did you know that your pets should be dewormed monthly ? This is because most deworming medications cannot pe*****te parasite eggs, therefore deworming your pet monthly will eliminate the parasites at the youngest age possible. This prevents them from maturing enough to reproduce!

⁉️Did you know that your pet can get parasites from just a short walk or a short amount of time outside ? It’s as easy as 1 -2 -3!

1: They ingest the eggs (licking paws after a walk, eating things off the ground, eating p**p).
2: The eggs mature and hatch.
3: The parasites make themselves comfortable in your pets’ GI system and reproduce rapidly!

🪱Eeeek! Not the best thing to hear. Unfortunately humans can also contract parasites from our pets is we are immunodeficient, young children, or very old in age. Let’s not let this happen. Deworm you’re pets monthly! This keeps everyone happy and healthy!

🙌🏻It is our responsibility to ensure that our environment is healthy, and keeping up with our pets’s preventatives is the first step! 💪🏻👏🏻

This sweet little angel baby is ✨Gideon✨! He was referred to us from to have his broken arm repaired by Dr.Petrut!

Gideon’s fracture was in his elbow! More specifically, his ulna and the olecranon ( the point of the elbow!). This was a unique case due to the fracture area and how small Gideon is, but Dr. Petrut still found a way to repair the fracture!!

Cheddar was shocked to find out that she has urinary crystals AND a UTI.. good thing her owners were able to notice the abnormal symptoms and bring her in ASAP! Urinary Tract Infections are no joke! As soon as you notice any abnormalities such as :

-changes in urination frequency (how many times they go)
-changes in urine colour
-inappropriate urination (peeing around the house when they never did before)
-painful abdomen or bladder area ( between the back legs)
-hunched posture ( if in severe pain)
-straining to urinate
-unable to urinate (EMERGENCY!!!!!)
-dribbling urine
-restless
Book an appointment and bring fresh urine if you can! We are able to take samples ourselves, but sometimes it’s easier when they are brought in !

And yes… we confirmed that Cheddar is named after the corgi in 🤩

RVT Gabby is treating her puppy’s joint condition with Laser Therapy! Laser therapy is a wonderful non-invasive treatment for a wide variety of conditions! From lacerations and post surgery treatment to joint conditions and arthritis, laser therapy is a huge benefit if used. 🤗✨🐾

🦷🐈Today we are highlighting a relatively common condition seen amount cats called a “Reabsorptive Lesion”. More info ⬇️!

What is a resorptive lesion and how do they happen?
🦷 A lesion occurs when the dentin in a single tooth (or several simultaneously) erodes and eventually becomes irreparably destroyed. The tooth will turn red/pink from the resorption.

What are the symptoms?
🦷A red lesion on the tooth/teeth, reduced appetite, sudden aggression or attitude change due to pain, hiding, drooling, reduced drinking.

Is it painful?
🦷Incredibly! These teeth are now very sensitive as the protection is gone. It is especially worse when they try to eat.

Is there any way to fix or treat this?
🦷 Tooth removal is the only known treatment. The sooner we remove the affected tooth/teeth, the less chance your cat suffers from severe tooth pain.

Dr. Lori Skrypnek

"A love of animals and a desire to help animals and their owners is what inspired me to become a veterinarian. I graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 1998.

My special area of interest is surgery but more specifically orthopedics including; CCL Repairs, TPLO technique, fractures, Femoral Head Osteotomy etc. I also find dermatology and nutrition very interesting.

My first pet was a Sheltie named Lady but now I have a sweet baby Golden Retriever named Daisy. What I love about my job is that I can develop a relationship with animals and their owners.

Fun fact about myself is that I love country music and my favourite singer is Keith Urban."

Dr. Kelsey Gouthro

"Although born and raised in Canada, I recently graduated from Ross University, a veterinary school in the Caribbean, in January of 2023. I developed an interest in small animal medicine including soft tissue surgery and enjoyed shelter medicine.

I joined the team in March of this year and am looking forward to improving the wellbeing and health of the furry family members of the West Edmonton community.

What I love about my job is getting the opportunity to advocate for pets and steer pet owners in the right direction when it comes to the preventative care and treatment of their pet.

My favorite thing about Parkwest is how my team members have great relationships with the clients and animals as well as with each other, and are always willing to help where is needed.

My spare time is spent with a loving old Island mutt named Indie, who is a shepherd mix that I adopted from the university I attended. She stole my heart when I saw her in the isolation kennel, and knew I had to take her home with me!

I understand how important the human-animal bond is, and I look forward to helping you develop that with your pet."
