Sorry it’s been a pretty quite summer!!! With the two evacuations and losing some birds and fertile eggs during the evacuation and the stress of it all I have been mostly trying to leave the birds alone. I will try on days off next week to get some pictures of some new birds outside in the Aviary (yup the weather has been so nice they are still outside loving life!!) This is our only survivor of our baby Gouldians and he’s getting close to being done his first molt. But I thought I would share his colouring. I will share more when he is fully molted. He loves to sing and sit at the front of the cage and watch your every move quizzically. 😂

Well once again we are evacuated!! It’s not looking good for our house. It’s about 2km away from my house heading straight for it. Please rain!!! We have all the birds and the turtle but the Europeans and zebras have abandoned their eggs they were sitting on so that really sucks!!! (We brought the nests and everything) But at least I still have them and hopefully we will have a home we can go back to so they can hopefully successfully hatch some and raise them!

Ohhhhh fingers crossed!!! Last year my European green finches didn’t give me any babies. Here’s to hoping this year is better!!!

Well Wednesday was a very sad day in our house. We came home from gymnastics to find one baby bird had died. Then we came back later in the day from mama and papas house and found another baby bird had died. Not sure what happened to them?? So far the last baby is doing awesome though. It even made it up onto a perch today!!!

Awww they are starting to try to fly. So cute!!! My toddler got in the video so had to cut it short then they stopped so just a small clip sorry!

Before people jump on me… no there is no birds up in the top cage. They are in the outside aviary!! Once the babies are independent I will open up the whole cage for them to use. But right now I’m trying to not disturb them to much so mom don’t abandon them.

And they are all out of the nest!! Woohoo!! Don’t mind the messy cage trying to disturb them as least as possible after all the evacuation moves. One definitely is lighter then the other two so fingers crossed one is a yellow 🤞Come on first molt!!

One baby Gouldian has flew out of the nest today. The other two I am sure are not far behind!! One is looking a lot lighter then the other two. When I had 4 babies the Facebook groups suggested I had three green backs and one yellow but I thought the one they said was yellow was the one that died. It was hard to tell in the nest without disturbing them to much. Guess I am just gonna have to wait and see after they have their first molt. The waiting game is so hard lol

Unfortunately we lost one baby in the recent wildfire evacuation, but we still have three!!! I wasn’t sure how we would end up after taking the nest and birds and moving it all to another portable cage. The other mom abandoned the eggs she was sitting on to so lost those as well (there was one developing egg) but I am very grateful to still have the three as I was thinking I would lose them all.

Came home from night shift to such a beautiful sound!!! Looks like 4 baby gouldians have hatched!!! My first ever time having gouldian baby’s!!! Was never successful with these breeding in the past!!! Pretty excited right now!!

And the second mom has been sitting on some eggs the last few days. Not all are good but I didn’t want to pull them out and disturb the mom sitting on the other eggs in the other nest beside it.

The Fawn black breasted zebra finches and the European green finches made it outside to their summer home today. Still have some work to do on their home once it warms up a bit and can hook the garden hose up (hose and scrub it down) and new branches once we can get into the bush and get some new ones. But they are sure loving it and singing away!!

So yesterday we added some new feather friends to our flock! Woohoo new bird day!! We got two female gouldians and as I was picking the one up from a lady I happened to see she had a pair of cordon blue finches. Cordon blue and Strawberry finches have been on my wish list for three years!!! I got pretty excited and asked her if she ever has babies with them? And she asked well do you want that pair? So needless to say they came home with me!!! Woohoo down to one bird on my wishlist now.

Rio and Sully are on a breeding holiday at our friend Mads house having the time of their lives I am sure!! But we are sure missing them at our house!!!
(We clearly have to find new names for them cause we are finding out they are not both males like we were told)

Last weekend we brought our birds in from their outside aviary. Our house is once again full of birds lol.
I do have 5 females and 1 male of the Fawn breasted birds (the brown colour ones) from this spring/summer hatch looking for a new family if anyone is interested in add to their family.

My gouldian cage is all set up in the house. Decided this year I am gonna try keeping them in the house and see if I have better luck breeding them. One female is already checking out her nest.

Welcome to our newest family member we picked up today. Isn’t he gorgeous!!! Now to find him a women!!!

He is our second male Gouldain currently seeking a women for both of them and hopefully in the future we can have some beautiful babies!!!

Woohoo the season has officially started!!!! Not 100% sure but I am guessing these are the European Green finches. (This is where their nest was last year). Sorry about the messy nest…. The grit tape didn’t stick so had to resort to using gorilla tape.

Got most of my birds into their summer aviary outside last week. Button quail, European green finches, Chestnut Flanked white zebra finches, and Fawn black breasted zebra finches- and these produced some Florida fancies last year so I have one baby left of those as well.

Still to go out the gouldain (he needs a new mate) and a few stragglers to keep the gouldain company.

Some of the chestnut flanked whites and the Florida fancy are still looking for their forever home if anyone is interested. They are all last seasons hatch.

Spring is around the corner the birds and quail can’t wait to get outside to their summer home!!!

I still have some last spring/summer hatch birds looking for their new forever home. I have chestnut flanked white (a few male but mostly females) and one female Florida Fancy left.

In honour of family day (cause we all need some birds in our family) we are having a week long family day sale.

Some pictures from tonight in the aviary. When we left for holidays the babies were just a day out of the nest and when we got back there was new eggs in there. So the nests are a little nasty sorry as they were not cleaned out because apparently these birds are a little happy outside!!! Got some new baby European Green Finches, one (so far) freshly hatched fawn breasted zebra finch. And looks like some more sneaky chestnut flanked white zebra. I have 34 button quail eggs in the incubator so we will see what the 13th ish brings. They are new eggs from the quail so we will see how fertile their first batch is. The older European Green Finch babies were camera shy and didn’t want their picture taken tonight 😬😉

Ok seriously people!!! I have been taking pictures of all my nest boxes (currently 3 as there are three pairs in there) everyday!!!! Just to try to monitor what’s going on. To see if the other two pair are gonna lay or what. The European green finches the last baby fledged today. So the nests are all above my head so I just lift the lid and put the camera in and take a picture to see. Well these are the other two nests yesterday. They look bare… but before every day a bird flew out of both… now recently only out of one…. Well today I took a snapshot and discovered this???? Say what????? When?? How?? And why does it look like there is two different parents??? Did the mamma mess up and lay an egg in the wrong nest??? I’m so confused but happy at the same time lol. Hmmm do I have surprise babies in the other nest as well that the adult bird keeps flying out of when I scare it with the camera???

Hello Everyone,
I’m a single mom to a beautiful boy and the two of us love birds!! Growing up we had birds off and on many different types. When my son was a baby (7 months) we picked up our first new members of our family. A few coturnix quail. Well it didn’t take me long to realize that the quail I always wanted was not the ones I had. So a couple months later I was fortunate to come across A pair of European green finches from a gentleman who had them imported and a pair of button quail from another great man... my “mentor”.... he teaches me almost everything!! Lol
I have gotten out of coturnix quail because well they are mean little things and could not be social in my avairy!!! So now we just have a variety of the cute little buttons!!!
Well it didn’t take long and we came across a pair of Gouldains, a pair of chestnut flanked white, a pair of fawn black breasted zebra finches, and a male/male bonded parrotlet pair. And this currently makes up our bird family!!! We have more on our wish list but maybe one day we will come across them.
My son is growing up to love his birds!!! He checks on them every morning when they are in the house in winter and when we are outside in summer. They are starting to have babies now and that’s super exciting!!! We have created this page to share our little family with you and hopefully one day when the babies grow up to allow you to add some of these beautiful birds to your family!!
