Now that the pups are safe and inside we have decided to offer this insulated dog house to someone to “borrow” for the remainder of the winter. If you have a stray cat that is roaming your property that could use a warm place to survive this winter, or if you know of someone who owns a dog or two that are outside and could use a warm place to lay their head at night please contact us. We can arrange to have it delivered. There is currently straw in it as well. Please share 🙏 It could save a life this winter.

Harrison Furred (renamed Ozzy) is living his best life at his new home! Last month his adoption was sponsored by Westman Environmental Services. We were so concerned that no one would see his potential. Story time 👇🏽

Harrison and his other three siblings (Isaac Mewton, Mr. Kitty Purry and Catalie Portman) had been in foster care for 6 months of their lives, which was basically all of it as their eyes were barely open when they were found.

Other cats were getting adopted and they were at a stand still. They were growing out of their “kitten stage” and we knew that meant there could be less interest in them.

It didn’t help that we made the mistake of placing all four into a large travel carrier for an adoption event (thinking that they would get along) and quickly learned that they needed their own carriers. They didn’t like anyone in their personal bubbles when being transferred and were quite stressed from that point on when going from a-b, even if they were separated from one another.

Their “first impressions” were definitely misconstrued from that point on during these events. Often hissing at one another and in fight or flight mode when outside of their comfort zones and in new environments.

How were they going to get adopted? When at their fosters they were completely different cats. Calm, affectionate, playful, curious and they ALL got along.

When we received a message that someone was interested in him but had not met him in person yet, we decided a meet and greet would be best at their current fosters. We forewarned them about his issues with travel and why they exist.

HARRISON WAS ADOPTED 🎉 ! His new family was patient and understanding. They were prepared for him to be quite stressed when he first arrived. They gave him time to decompress. And we have been told he is “the best cat and they couldn’t have asked for better”.

The reason for this long story is that Isaac Furred (Harrison’s identical brother) is still waiting for his forever home. Likely his situation will be exactly the same and he will require the same needs from his new humans.

If you are interested in taking a chance on an incredible kitty that is:

✅ 7 months of age/short haired tabby
✅great with kids
✅fully vaccinated
✅neutered
✅extremely affectionate

But has a little anxiety during travel, Isaacs adoption fee is 50% off.
$60 ONLY to the right home.

‼️ MAMA UPDATE: JAN 2nd, 5:15pm
Our volunteer noticed Mama wasn’t herself and we decided to bring her to the vet for an after hours appointment where she received an x-ray and we found out she is DUE to have 5 PUPPIES any day now ‼️

She is now on her way to Brandon to temporarily stay with Michelle’s family indoors until she gives birth to her litter. The other two puppies remain on the property and await their vaccination/check up appointments Tuesday, Jan 9th.

Big thank you to Meg Huh Chings for taking great care of them and transporting mama to the vet and Brandon this evening. And to the Neepawa Veterinary Clinic for amazing medical care 💜🙏

Update: 3:00 PM DECEMBER 31st
Thank you Meg Huh Chings for volunteering to check on the dogs late last night, early today and this evening. Still hoping to find another volunteer so they can alternate with her for times/days.

A few things to confirm so there is no confusion ⬇️

❎We have sent emails to several rescues about the dogs (all are full that we have heard back from)

❎Animal welfare was contacted but their response was that because the dogs were left outside and not locked in a fenced in yard or house, they are considered to be “running at large”. This meaning by law they are strays, not abandoned.

❎A few people have mentioned fostering them/helping in the comment sections of posts shared but when contacted there was no response.

❎We are hoping to take them to a vet clinic to evaluate their over all health. Our newest concern is that mama may be pregnant.

❎The male pup has the St. Bernard coloured markings.

❎The young female is very skinny, ginger and white in colour. Skinny with a round belly (possibly worms).

❎Momma (brindle) has something going on with her right ear, very tender and she shakes it quite a bit. Also appears she could be pregnant, ni***es and belly are large.

❎ The dogs have been abandoned for 2 weeks. We have confirmed this from a source close to the family who moved so there is no need for a welfare check.

A donation towards their vet care can be made by Etransfer to: [email protected]
please send the word “dogs” in the memo ❤️‍🩹

Good morning! ✨
We have gained quite a few new followers in the past week due to our recent post about the three abandoned dogs. We feel it is important to take a second to send a friendly reminder to our new followers that:

1. We are a non-profit CAT rescue. We have tried our best to help network, find resources and supply food, shelter and veterinary care for puppies + dogs on a few occasions but we are not set up to accommodate large dogs. We rely on fosters for placements as we do not have a permanent facility (yet🤞). The community that we rescue most of our cats in has little to no animal control outside of the town. This is why we have decided to get involved and help as much as we can with limited resources. Shelters are over flowing and the rescue community needs help! We can’t continue to expect that all animals can simply be “dropped off”. Unfortunately it’s not that simple.

2. Our small team consists of volunteer’s who work full time jobs and have families etc. We do reply to messages A.S.A.P., check in and give the public updates on our page however it would be nearly impossible for us to respond to every comment and post. If you would like to get in contact with us, the best way is by sending us a DIRECT message in our PM box.

3. We do not tolerate hate, abuse, threats or ignorant comments. Like all rescues we are doing our very best. There is no room, time or energy here for disrespect. We appreciate and need all the positive support and want to thank you for following us! It takes a village 👏

Thank you for your patience.
-Team at S.C.O.E.

Volunteer found for tonight and tomorrow! Looking for an additional person/persons to feed and check in as well.

3 PUPPIES ABANDONED NEAR ERICKSON

The insulated dog shelter was dropped off by our team December 24th. The woman feeding the animals has told us they do not eat the food she has left there but have eaten all the food we have left for them. We are concerned that they are NOT being checked on regularly. We live an hour away from the residence and the woman feeding and checking in on them does not go daily due to driving issues etc. Looking for volunteers to go out and feed/check in on their well being. Please message us asap. Location will be sent privately. Messages have been sent to various rescues for help.

GARBAGE BIN CAT UPDATE 🗑️ 🐱 💔

Last week we picked up two kitties just outside of Erickson. One living in the garbage bin outside of a business and the other eating garbage and looking pretty disheveled.

After receiving a bath, the garbage bin kitty and the bonus kitty spent the night indoors where they were warm and fed before they were transported to Winnipeg on Christmas Eve. Nicole Tee, a foster who has a history of helping and healing cats with some pretty severe cases of illness/health issues has offered her services to our rescue. We couldn’t be more grateful.

Yesterday they received their first vet appointment where we found out that:

1. Garbage Bin Kitty (who has been renamed Feliz) is in fact MALE, and neutered with no tattoo. The vet assumes Feliz is only 5-6 years of age because his teeth look surprisingly healthy. Both cats are FIV/FELV negative, woo 👏. Feliz had a really high worm burden, was dehydrated, and pretty anemic. However his kidneys and thyroid seem to be ok. He was given SQ fluids for dehydration.

2. Bonus Kitty (who has been renamed Merry) is FEMALE. Merry is about 2-3 year of age, was treated for ear mites and worms but otherwise seems to be ok!

If you would like to donate towards their vet care etransfers can be sent to [email protected] 🙏

I recently trapped 11 cats whose caretakers had given away 72 kittens in recent years. It's a common scenario, and I always think of my rescue friends who invest enormous time, effort and emotional energy into fostering cats and kittens, nursing them back to health and finding them homes. I hear about the midnight trips to the emergency vet, the heartbreak when a kitten doesn't survive, the constant pressure to find adopters and make room for yet another animal in need.

A weekend spent trapping 11 cats is a small investment of time and money to prevent an additional 72 kittens from being born to compete in the crowded market for homes.

Hello everyone! As we celebrate the holidays with family and friends opening presents, munching on snacks and then off to eat way too much Christmas supper. As you are finally relaxing in front of the fire (with your new adopted kitty cat on your lap), thinking to yourself how the tree brings many memories. Memories of your children growing up, many firsts of your FOSTERING or ADOPTING a new cat or kitten.
You stop and think "how could I not think of all the Christmas treats, food, snacks,Christmas tree, ribbon, ornaments and most of all Plants espPOINTSETTAS and how toxic or even how sick these items could cause my fluffy".

So long story shorty..

Michelle, Tammy, Emma and Shannon wish you and your purrrr family aSafe and Vet free holiday!

Please read the following information for what your cat should or shouldnt have.

Merry Christmas from the “Erickson Barn Litter” 🎅🏻 🎄✨ 🎁
Our wish this Christmas is that we will be adopted just like our sisters, Mertyl and Millie. Can you help us? Please share 🙏

UPDATE: 12:28 pm Sunday, Dec 31st
Dog has been transported to Winnipeg and rehomed by Erickson Pound.

Update: 7:59 PM
Dog has been taken inside by finder, they are unable to keep him/her as they have other animals and are still in search of owner.

This pups paws were frozen from wandering all day. Finder had asked us if we or others can take it for the night. We do not have an animal shelter. We are also dealing with the three other pups still needing care.

If you have any information regarding this dog or can help by keeping it warm, safe and indoors please contact us.

‼️For future reference: This isn’t something we usually get involved with as we are a non-profit cat rescue. We are NOT involved/employeed by the Municipality. The Municipality employ’s and pays Animal Control who strictly deal with dogs. There seems to be a lot of confusion and we constantly get calls/messages about these situations. We are helping the best we can and using the limited resources we have. We appreciate your understanding. ‼️

These puppies will be receiving an insulated dog house in the next 24 hours

Good Morning ✨
We are hoping for a Christmas Miracle. We have been brainstorming and want a more comfortable solution for these pups while they are awaiting help. We have found an insulated dog house (as they were sleeping directly on the ground under a couple of boards, not blocked from the wind). We have explained the situation to the seller and they are willing to significantly come down on price, $350.00.
This would be large enough to fit all three dogs. And keep them sheltered until more resources are found.

If anyone is interested in helping with this please reach out or send donations to [email protected]
Please comment “doghouse” in memo when sending.

Friendly reminder to those who are telling us to name and shame the family who left the animals behind. Is it easy to be angry, yes.
We could do that, but if we did less people would trust us or ask for our help in these types of situations. Sharpening our pitch forks and throwing someone under the bus will not fix things in the long run. Animals need help. Do people make poor decisions that we don’t agree with, every damn day. However if this Good Samaritan didn’t reach out with this information in fear that we would release the names of the people responsible, these dogs would still be out there and no one would know. Will APO be contacted, yes. Does the public need to shame this family on social media to get justice, no. These comments will be DELETED as they only push us ten steps back. Our posts are not “hate driven”. They are to educate the public on what is going on, and to find resources. We need more people to reach out to rescues when these situations occur. Remember what we are fighting for.

It has been a busy couple of months! We are a little behind, but better late than never. Thank-you to everyone for donating. Every donation is greatly appreciated no matter the size.

Food, litter, litter boxes, carriers, linens, laundry detergent, toys, etransfers/cash, and other donations. We couldn’t do what we do without you.

If you were not mentioned please send us a message and we can correct it immediately. We have been scanning through texts, emails, dms and etransfers trying to make sure every name was mentioned. This list does not contain those who are donating towards our raffle as that is still being organized 🩷

We would also like to shout out everyone who likes, comments and shares our posts, you help save lives! Volunteers who help transport cats as well as supplies. And of course thank you to our vet at Wheat City Veterinary Clinic. They have all been very accommodating and have neutered/spayed and vaccinated endless amounts of animals in our care. Thank you for choosing our rescue when adopting your pets and to our fosters for loving them until they find their forever homes.

-Merry Christmas from our team at SCOE
