“Sit, Stay, Good Dog, Canine Academy”
This business is the endeavor of the land owner Krista Jansen (and co-owner husband Tommy Maillet) and dog trainer Chelsea Neville. Chelsea will be closing her existing business “Refined Canines” in Waverley and moving to this new location in partnership with Krista. Chelsea’s current location no longer is suitable to deal with the increasing demand for dog training. It is a small rented space in a house on a residential street, which is limiting her ability to serve more people and dogs. Refined Canines is the only recognized official “dog training” solution in this area.
Chelsea is an excellent well-regarded trainer with years of experience. At Sit, Stay, Good Dog our members start their journey a full assessment. Chelsea prescribes different models and levels of training dependent on the owner and dogs’ situation. Her model includes 1:1 training with dogs and their owners. “Boot camp or stay and train,” where dogs come daily for training with Chelsea for a prescribed period of time. The owners frequently attend as well. Boot Camp, differs by dog and depends on how quickly the owners and dog can learn the new ways of communicating and behaving. After boot camp, owners often need a structured situation for their dogs to continue to exist with the new communication skills they have learned with Chelsea. Dogs who have graduated from “boot-camp” often attend ongoing small group dog training. This can be 1 – 5 days per week dependent on the dog and owner’s needs. Dogs who work with Chelsea learn how to be good dogs. This is basically school for dogs, working with a trainer daily. This is not a dog daycare, like some of the nearest dog daycares. Those places have very large groups of dogs (50 + dogs) often with one person. There is not structure or training. They are the opposite of the business we are proposing. You will never find a group of dogs unattended at Chelsea’s. You will never drive or walk up to a group of barking dogs. Chelsea has never had a “noise complaint” filed against her. Her neighbors have never complained to her about noise of barking dogs.
We would like to be able to offer our members basic grooming like nail trims, baths and blow outs as a secondary service for them. We would also like to offer some associated retail as a convenience for our members.
Waverly, Fall River, Wellington has no area that is safe for dogs to be off leash. This property has a very large unused upper lot. We propose that we would fence in this lot and allow our members use of the area for off leash activities with their pets. Dog owners must travel far distances to be able to access anything like this, this would be an incredible service for our members. (Tessa and. Lexi up in the top yard exploring!)
